Obligatory Zootopia Thread

Seconded, Kat is usually good for things like htis.
True. Maybe not the entire disc itself with all the extras, but those could be found elsewhere like YouTube if you don't mind picking those up and include that with these rips.

Bumping up a thread a month later, having recall someone mentioning elsewhere how someone was trying to sell or buy the subway display they had for the film in theatres a while back, the same is also happening for a standee used to sell DVD's on.

Someone out there who happened to have some connections managed to get much of the original draft to Zootopia and put together this sperg-heavy video featuring artwork and brief clips from the earlier storyboards while detailing the plot of what was going to be Nick's story before the overhaul back in '14.

I personally don't know if that guy has much of a case. Yeah, the basic premise and some of the lines seem similar but it looks like that was being done in a totally different direction than what Zootopia became. People have been using anthromorphised animals to reflect human nature since Aesop and it's hard to say whether or not he'll succeed. I mean, if he was wronged, I wish the best for him but I don't think he'll get anywhere with it.

Anyway, those original designs are ugly as hell.

I don't know whether it's true or not but just because it's Disney, there's a good chance they curb stomp him in court just by outspending him.

These kinds of suits rarely go anywhere, but this has some things in its favor. The guy who is filing the suit actually has a history in Hollywood. Most people who file suits like this are crazy people who have never done anything. If the claim is true, he actually pitched something of the same name to them. Then, there's also the fact that these fuckers at Disney really do have an incredibly long history of just constantly stealing shit left and right. It's infuriating.

On the bad side, he waited until well after the theatrical release of the film even to file for an injunction and monetary damages. It looks a lot more like he waited until the film blew up huge, then let it make tons of money, and only then decided he was in for a share of it. Let's just say his odds of getting an injunction after those shenanigans are about zilch. So even if everything else he claimed is true, it's like he decided to let them go through with it then try to get his money by the back door.

That is, instead of mitigating his damages, he just let them pile up and conveniently waited until after the theatrical run of the movie was entirely over to make his claim. The court may take a dim view of this kind of gamesmanship.

So I think depending on the merits, if it survives the initial skirmishes of a motion to dismiss and summary judgment, it'll settle for something between fuck you go away value and real money, with a settlement agreement that we never hear another word from this guy about this thing ever again. It really comes down to how much of the shit this guy is saying is true and whether Disney wants to fuck this guy hard and publicly just to discourage other people from similar lawsuits, since they really do just flat out steal shit all the time.

The premise of a cartoonist creating this animal world in Gary's story already makes it sound a little like Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Cool World. It's nothing original there.

People have been using anthromorphised animals to reflect human nature since Aesop and it's hard to say whether or not he'll succeed. I mean, if he was wronged, I wish the best for him but I don't think he'll get anywhere with it.

Yep! They just look basic to me. Now I wonder which 'animator' Gary worked with on those designs, but they're pretty by-the-numbers in their design and purpose.

A paragraph from a report on ZNN had this to say on the matter of the case...

However, to me, the final nail in the coffin is this: if Goldman was working on developing a franchise around his "Zootopia" concept, which he claims to have worked on for nearly a decade (2000-2009), then I have to ask: Why did neither he, nor Esplanade Productions, register the collection of art and other concept materials with the United States Copyright Office until February 10, 2017? (p.11, paragraph 34)

It'll be interesting if that comes up.
