As is often said, polls don't exist to inform you, they exist to mislead your perception of reality. There is no reason for them to report accuracy when they benefit from guiding public opinion to whatever they want people to believe the consensus is.

Yes, but what a lot of people don't realize is that both parties in Congress are controlled by what is know as a Political Whip - who make sure that every congressman votes the way they're "supposed to". If one party is sufficiently weak, then the power of those whips fade - and vice versa. These whips were ultimately why RINO's like Romney and whatshername voted to confirm Amy Barrett. They were threatened, bribed, begged, maybe even blackmailed. That's the party whip's job.

And if the Democrats are in control of congress, then those RINOs feel they can score points with their own electorate by "reaching across the aisle" and "stopping Trump from doing more damage". It's a huge shot in the dark, but impeachment was always possible. Just not likely under current circumstances.
