Let's say Trump wins MI, PA, GA and NC, and Biden wins WI and NV. That gives Trump an edge with +/- 281 electoral votes. That's what Trump fans should be hoping for at this point. Brown county has 56% Trump with 50% reporting, so WI is very much still in play tho.

Fuck it, I put this one off too long:
The real answer has to do with the interests of the state.
Let's say, in some hypothetical scenario that totally never happened, one candidate was very pro agriculture while the other was much more into heavy industry. Industrialized states tend to be heavily populated while agricultural ones are mostly rural with broad landmass and few people. If a direct democracy were established, it would mean the industrial side would win every election to the detriment of the people who make our food. Obviously, that would be a problem. So we give special weight to low population areas that have interests that go counter to those of high population areas because, at the end of the day, we don't want a country where everyone's happy with the results of any given election. We want a country that fucking works. Because a country that doesn't fucking work is a recipe for revolution and tyranny.
