accepting just living together over marriage, because it’s been branded as outdated, too religious, and too costly. This psyop only really benefits the man though because it allows them to put even less effort into a relationship, while getting all the benefits of a marriage. If there’s a breakup with a long term couple that isn’t married, the woman technically has no legal protection when it comes to dividing assets, as no marriage contract was signed. Men will complain and call it “divorce rape,” but marriage is a contract, and therefore anything gained within that partnership should be divided fairly (and no, a man earning more doesn’t entitle him to more, as women often are tasked with unpaid labor that the man benefited from within that partnership). For the sake of legal protection in the event of a breakup, marriage is the best way to ensure fairer treatment under law.
