To me it sounds like he considers that the movie should've focused more on gratuitous pornographic depictions of women getting killed by a cool psychopath. The movie is still somewhat graphic because of the subject matter, but Patrick Bateman isn't portrayed as a wish fulfillment fantasy, but as a pathetic and violent turbotard who's obsessed with status.

Adapting American Psycho is difficult for the same reason it's always difficult to adapt a novel written in the first person by a very unreliable narrator. No matter how careful a director is, we default to assuming the camera view is "reality," in a different way than the slow realization that a literary narrator is missing things or not telling the whole story. It seems like the way this usually gets handled in adaptations is a "pull-back" near the end that makes it clear that the camera is in the main character's head, not objective reality. Fight Club did a pretty good job of managing this.

American Psycho is definitely a book where a horrible dude talks for extended periods about designer brands and also details murders in a similar long format. I would prefer not to read the book again but I thought that both of his species of tangents being equally detailed and impassioned and ultimately solipsistic was part of the way that the reader was supposed to figure out that Bateman was seething and crazy under the high effort it took to maintain a superficial presentation of (finance-bro) humanity, but not the actually-murder-people kind of crazy. I don't know how you'd adapt the book truly "faithfully," although I guess you could advance it to modern day and make Bateman one of those influencers who films 3-hour informative videos that should have been 15 minutes.

BEE is a pretentious bisexual ex-wunderkind who had aged out of being the hot new thing by the time the movie came around; I'm not endorsing "death of the author" but you have to consider the source.

He goes out to stay with her for like NINE MONTHS. Turns out she met Cormac at a motel pool when she was a teen and in an abusive foster family. She was a fan of Cormac and recognized him and approached him to sign her book. They began a romantic relationship. She ran away from her foster family to live with Cormac for several years. At one point the FBI was on the verge of arresting him. Cormac wrote her dozens of letters and the journo believes she was the muse for some of Cormac's main characters (who are all male of course). There are also versions of her in nearly everything Cormac wrote. Creepy.

The article is nauseating for its romanticization of what was clearly the grooming of a young and vulnerable girl. Augusta still rationalizes the relationship (as victims tend to do). The journo constantly fawns over her and is infatuated with her childlike mannerisms. He doesn't seem to pick up on the fact that Cormac had Augusta move out once she was no longer as young and impressionable. He doesn't pick up on the fact that Cormac recognized a young fan and buttered her up with praise in a deliberate ploy to groom her. Augusta seems to be stuck in a childlike frame of mind due to a sum of her life's trauma. Pro-male society has always made excuses for, if not outright romanticized and caped for, much older moids who groom teenage girls and turn them into their muses, only to eventually break their hearts and kick them out of their lives once they're seen as old and used up (typically before the age of 30). People and in particular moids have just gotten better at hiding this, but when you read articles like this, it slips through.

Remember R.Kelly (whose sexual abuse accusations date all the way back to the 90s) marrying Aaliyah when he was 27 and she was 15, or Luc Besson (who has also been accused of rape and is still not in jail) dating and later marrying Maïwenn Le Besco when he was 32 and she was 15/16?
