I think (but not am 100% sure), but I believe in the novels the game was based on on males can become a Witcher because of the magic or whatever. Cirir has been in the story and even trained with the Witchers, but she can never be one. If she is a Witcher in the new game it would be woke along the lines of an all female Ghostbusters with her being the only and therefore very special, woman power rawr! (I too really haven't been paying attention, and I know it's a small part, but it is a part of it.)
The last time I read Witcher books was around 15 years ago, so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but wasn't it something along the lines of girls dying much more often during the whole becoming-a-witcher set of procedures? I think other witchers just decided that the risk is not worth the reward

However, since they themselves cannot contribute to the birth rate because they have anal sex with other men, they become rabid about making women pop out kids.
