Anyone else feel that men liking anime beyond a few mainstream childhood series (Pokemon, DBZ, Naruto etc) is a massive red flag? I know asking that online in 2023 is gonna be unpopular, I think chronic anime consumption is cringe and autistic in women too but with men it's like a tornado siren to me.
So anime is very interesting as a topic because the genre dictates whats going on as well as the location of the watcher. What girls like in Japan men might like in the west. What is a redflag in Japan for one trait is another for westoids. For some reason, messages Japanese people try to convey don't always translate well into Westoid minds.
I will say the manga readers tend to be safer than the anime watchers. For some reason being able to read weeds out coomers and retards.
If they're overly into the moé genre (basically all uwu girls, usually no men) it is. That's kind of a by men for men thing. This is true universally. You are getting a dude with some mommy issues.
Also men overly into Yuri (girl x girl) is potential tranny pipeline.... Mainstream Yuri in Japan is all for men so actual women don't bother with it because they feel sexualized and stereotyped.
There is Yuri written by women for women tho.
There's stereotypes for Westerners who like certain anime:
- K-On = super racist dude (i have never seen this anime but it's about a bunch of highschool girls starting a band) they tweet funny shit tho.
- Evangelion = crippling depression (the waifu wars on this one span ages, if he likes Rei, get out...)
- Genshin Impact= discord groomer
- Touhou= child predator/ coomer
- Berserk= male who needs to find himself, higher than a lost boy but still uncertain. Not usually sexual predators. Not coomers.
- Dragon ball Z= black
There are coomer free manga/animes and genres that coomerism usually doesn't happen in. All the fighting centric stuff is *usually* okay (dbz, berserk, one punch man) in terms of not housing coomers because the male fantasy of violence and overcoming trials is enough to subdue their sex drive.

A guy liking a few shows or one anime is different than the consoomer otaku. Or the waifu obsessed moid (an epidemic worldwide).
I think you need to use judgement. If you are familiar with anime/manga or can use google to see what the fan art of the series looks like (aka if there's almost no porn it's probably safe) , you can judge it yourself.
