TBF I am totally unsure if the writing reflects an intentional choice of narrative voice, or if that way of writing and those ideas are expressions of the author's authentic self.

I recall Elliot Rodger's manifesto was ~180 pages of looney tunes. The episodes that stand out for me were when Rodger reflected on the time he got invited to The Hunger Games premiere and he spent the entire afterparty seething at the actor who plays Peeta Mellark. I wish I understood why- why is it that they (or at least many of them) have this desire (or have acquired this culture of) to control and dominate that (at least to me it appears that) we women don’t have? they should feel ashamed..or something other than self wallowing pity and their lack of empathy. What is this and why are you posting it?

It’s a very rough draft piece of literary fiction by a new writer who wanted eyes on his stuff. I guess you could call it a character study, or an epistolary. I gave him feedback without directly addressing the cartoonishly sexist content, because I think the draft has more pressing issues like alienating the reader.

The most fleshed-out bit is an incredibly grim sex scene. Not grim like a horrorcow but grim in the sense that he makes having sex with women sound very bleak and depressing. It makes it sound like the character hates having sex with women, hates even being around them, but he does it anyway. There are professions of being unable to understand women.

There’s also some weird antinatalist-adjacent rhetoric about how scientists > parents and parenting is not an achievement, and lot of off-brand philosophy about the human condition.

Giving him feedback I gave the writer benefit of the doubt that these aren’t his opinions per se but the character’s character. But on the other hand, the sexism is more fleshed-out and internally consistent than anything else. And it is very plausible that the writer may believe women are mysterious, boring, and physically repulsive.

so it’s like two bad options:
Option 1: the central character in this story is a depressed MGTOW going through the motions of having sex he finds repulsive
Option 2: this is what the author really thinks are bold new philosophical ideas.
