Funnily enough, the people that do complain about that seem to disregard the first thing I've learnt about mental health - you live with the choices you made. I dated a quiet guy once briefly. It was horrendous. Being quiet as a man is the equivalent of liking cowgirl as a man - it's usually just driven by laziness and a lack of any distinctive personality. If I got tired of driving the conversation he'd prod me like a donkey to keep talking - he'd hit me with a "you're being quiet." If I want silence I'd rather just be alone - the sole purpose of a companion (romantic or otherwise) is to actually add something to the conversation.

I used to joke ("joke") about how I just wanted to spend the rest of my life with a man who would, for the most part, leave me the fuck alone. Then I found him and it has been every bit as wonderful as I had hoped. We do talk about actually interesting things and have nice conversations/debates, but we can be comfortably silent around one another most of the time. The majority of my hobbies involve sitting quietly and not talking to anyone, so this ability to shut the hell up is greatly appreciated.

Tangent here but I used to listen to Sargon of Akkad's Lotus Eaters podcast a while ago (never was a fan, it was one of the many background noises I cycled through while cooking). The last time I was listening, there was one of their guys -whose name I don't remember- talking about vegetarianism and bugs being pushed into Western cuisine. Red meat came up in conversation (not hunting for it or anything like that. Simply eating steak, meatballs, etc.) and this man genuinely, wholeheartedly started to talk about eating pre-cut, pre-cleaned grocery store steak as "exciting and masculine because you get to tear it apart (?), and because you're consuming the flesh of a nutritious animal (?)" and I started to laugh so hard I actually had to sit down for a minute. I never watched anything from them or from Sargon ever again.

You know, I love tomatoes. I love their slightly bitter taste and somewhat coarse texture. They taste homely and comforting to me. I love cucumbers and how refreshing they are whenever they're good during the season. I love parsley, dill, purslane in the right dishes. I love making sides with roasted eggplant and bell peppers. After reading your post it reminded me of this idea of NPC men aka men whose emotions and line of thinking is extremely limited. They are aware of this limit and are very frustrated because of it, which is why they resent most of women, because most of them aren't NPCs like them because women have a large range of perception, experience, emotion and stimuli. They are frustrated because they can't reach the same processing levels as women especially if they are the same ages as them, so the solution for that is these men getting those more self-aware women on the same level as them by pushing them to the brink of exhaustion whether it's by emotional labor, domestic labor or something entirely else until those women transform into NPCs like these men are.
