Testimony from some of the accused rapists in the Pelicot case. Fucking insane words from fucking insane rapists.
Xitter link to transcripted testimony
There's first a debate about showing the videos of the alleged rapes, and whether the court should be able to even watch the videos Dominique Pelicot, Gisèle's husband, recorded.
Gisèle's team argue that since she cannot recall what has happened, then it must be so, that all the videos are viewed by the court. The videos form the whole basis for the trial, as without evidence, there is no case.
Dominique's team, along with several lawyers of the other accused rapists, in their argument against showing the videos, says that the videos are "sensationalist", and that we should debate the circumstances "serenely", and without seeking revenge, because revenge is not justice. The court must maintain dignity.
The judge, a male, goes to think about this, then comes back and AGREES WITH THE DEFENSE, the videos will not be systematically displayed, only one a case-by-case basis, which Gisèle's team will have to provide sufficient argument for each and every time. The room will be cleared each time the videos are viewed, so that ONLY the parties to the trial will be able to see them. Journalists and others in the court will not be able to view the videos.
What the fuck.
Gisèle, through her lawyer, says she's expecting nothing from this trial. Gisèle says her life is already destroyed, so her hope is that by making the circumstances as public as possible, it will shift public perception. Gisèle's wish is that the media see these videos, rather than allowing the accused rapists to hide "behind closed doors" [of the court].
Fingers crossed for a data breach, so Gisèle may have her wish. What the fuck is wrong with the court system?

Cyrille D, 54, says he was raised in a difficult environment, his father was an alcoholic and very violent, his mother was very protective. Cyrille called his father "Hitler", and lived much of his childhood with his grandparents.
Cyrille spoke of his belief that this sex act would be a threesome, and that the woman would naturally take something "to relax". Because that's what all women do. Totally normal. But not to worry, of the sexual act itself, he "didn't enjoy it".
At one point, Gisèle chokes while Cyrille is shoving his cock in her mouth, and in her drugged condition with weakened muscles, this could have been life threatening, according to lawyers. Cyrille thinks that it was maybe, possibly, perhaps at this point that he realised it may have been rape. He didn't report it to the polis, because he was scared.
Since discovering the truth, he is wracked with guilt, unable to sleep, and he has nightmares. He's tried to forget everything, but he can't. Prison has been miserable for him, he's started cutting himself, self-injuring to deal with the immense suffering he is undergoing.
At one point, Cyrille is asked about consent. Cyrille says:
"I am 54, and I did not get consent. I hope we should teach this in schools. I blame myself, but with my psychiatrist, I am learning that women do not belong to men."
The lawyer for Dominique points out that the videos do not show a man wracked with fear (note that these videos are NOT viewed by the court, this is just what Dominique's lawyers are reporting TO the court), and critiques Cyrille for blaming Dominique for not telling Cyrille that Gisèle was drugged.
As if her completely unconscious state might not have been a hint. These men are fucking morons.
Apparently Dominique and Cyrille has some nice chats about sport, and they "could talk about everything". It's always nice to find camaraderie with your bros no matter the circumstances, amiright?
At one point, Cyrille was being so relentless with this forced blowjob that Dominique had to tell him to stop for a bit "so she can breathe". Charming.
His relatives have offered "glowing" testimony in his defense, including his daughter, who happily reports her father never once made a move on her.
The bar is so fucking low for men, it's proceeded below the mantle of our planet.
