i feel like growing up with a freak is worse -- at least the latter gives you a baseline of experience with normal humans acting normally and there's a better chance of having a preexisting safety net. but in the long run you might as well ask "does it hurt worse to get punched in the neck or kicked in the ribs?" because both answers still end with pain and suffering.

Looked up an article with more info on this case.
- Over an 18-month period, Nelson admitted he made around £5,000 from selling these images.
- Nelson frequently discussed child sexual abuse with other chatroom users and on three separate occasions encouraged the rape of children aged under 13, the court heard.
- He [the judge] ordered Nelson to also serve six years on licence after he is released from jail and he must sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
- Mr Toal said: "The defendant said he had over 60 characters in total, ranging from six months to middle-aged, and he charged £80 to create a new character.
- Nelson, who had no previous convictions, was arrested at his family home in Egerton, Bolton, in June last year and told police he had a sexual interest mainly in girls aged about 12.
- Various devices were seized and were found to contain a large quantity of indecent images as well as chats online with adults in France, Italy and the United States regarding the sexual exploitation and rape of children, although there was no evidence before the court to say any child had been sexually or physically assaulted.

In one chat uncovered by forensic investigators, a father of a nine-year-old girl discussed raping her with Nelson and admitted to sexually assaulting her. Nelson responded by encouraging him to rape her. The contents of others are too graphic to report.
Across eight chats, officers found 56 category A images - the most serious kind, involving penetrative sexual activity, sexual activity with an animal or sadism; 16 category B images involving non-penetrative sexual activity; and 47 category C images, which are other indecent images not falling into categories A or B. All these images were distributed by or to Nelson.
He was also found to have created 864 category A images, 440 category B images, and 503 category C images, and had 1,391 prohibited images in his possession.
Nelson pleaded guilty to 16 offences; four counts of distributing indecent photographs of children; one count of publishing an obscene article; three counts of intentionally encouraging or assisting the commission of the rape of a child under the age of 13; one count of attempting to cause a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity; three counts of distributing indecent photographs of children; three counts of making indecent photographs of children; and one count of possessing prohibited images of children.
