If they're in an environment where pronoun usage is encouraged but they don't have them. For example, some workplace makes everyone use one of two email signature templates. The one with the pronouns is at the top, subtly trying to encourage employees to put the she/her/hers line in. If they use the pronoun-less version, chances are they're at least normie-tier.

I don't think there is an indirect way and speaking of HP, I know a troon who still loves it, even tho he shits at JKR (they have some ways to reconcile these two views).
I'd say a relatively safe way would be use the troon preferred pronous and name while talking about him, but make a long gap in the sentence or clear your throat before you say it with exaggerated intonation. Nobody can sue you for not having serious face. If you two are alone and not under camera, you can do jazz hands and air quotes.

Edit to not doublepost, as for JKR herself, maybe I am wrong as I don't follow her, but I think she actually never said anything transphobic and they can't come up with a single quote that would make her TERF explicitly.
