I absolutely hate the thing they do when they passively don't allow something. They won't outright tell you no or not to do it but they will bitch and moan and insult and ignore you until you offer to stop and then suddenly it's "I NEVER TOLD YOU TO STOP YOU'RE MAKING ME SOUND CONTROLLING" when the alternative is them being moody until you give them what they want without asking or making a fuss or defending yourself. They know if they need to explain it, they will sound controlling because it's always a non issue.
I understand boundaries but these were non explicit hobbies I was no longer "allowed" to participate in, no writing, no drawing, artists I couldn't listen to, interests I couldn't have because it was related to the hobby, quite literally anything I liked. This book actually follows a traditional romance plot: the guy treats the woman badly, he looses her, he grovels and changes his ways, and she takes him back. (This is not in anyway an approval of the series). There is even a romance genre term "The Grovel" to describe the scene where the terrible male main character begs for forgiveness.
