Maybe I have some aspects to my personality/experience that skew more "male" than what y'all perceive as a typical woman's experience, but I have been through some dark days, and there was no one truly there but me, and it was up to me to sort it out. Which I did.

I will say this: it may or may not be true that women are more solicitous of other women, but if you don't conform and behave as expected after the outreach, you're done. And that's not to say men as a class are any better; ime men are around to suckle and benefit [from women], unless and until you as a woman need some actual bolstering, at which point you're literally who.

So that's a dark picture of humanity in general, men and women. And yet unlike some twits who rated my last comment dumb :-p (translation: a joke, jfc, it's a joke) I just can't take it that personally.

On reflection, I see too many people either a) having no boundaries or b) deciding it's cool to be a dick because...just because. Neither of those is healthy or well adjusted. A strong sense of self weathers hurt and harm without either falling apart or becoming vindictive or bitter or cruel.

Every attempt I've made to emotionally support a woman who isn't family or my SO has been a disaster unless the issue revolved around another man. Even with family/SO it's a crapshoot unless I just act as a cheerleader. It's a pretty common experience. Move heaven and earth so they'll succeed though.
