Official Minecraft Server

the people's farm is destroyed so i'm not worried about posting pictures.
i built a farm near spawn to just make bread, and every time i logged in, it was improved by other people.

What's the over under on a modpack for the non-anarchy server? They seem to largely come with land claim built in (with a visual system to see what chunks are taken), and even if it's a fairly light pack, Chisel 2 and whatever replaced carpenter blocks would give a million times the capability to build.
If you want to start suggesting shit now's the time to do it.

I've got better Internet now so I'm taking today to update the MATI site and add old episodes t the podcast feed. I'll work on MC later (either tonight or tomorrow, probably tomorrow).
I generally play with mod packs. If you go with an already established mod pack (easiest method), you'll be hard pressed to find a good one that isn't loaded down with 100+ mods. That many mods kills performance. I don't even know how that would work with a server with 20-40 people logged in. You're having issues with TPS with a vanilla server, fuck, 100 mods will melt your server.

If you want to go the harder route of a custom modded server, it's going to be harder for the users to get that rolling. Taking vanilla and adding mods is a pain in the ass and you likely won't be able to do it for 1.16.1 because it's likely very few mods even have support for it yet. You'll have to run an older version of MC.
Depending on the mods you run, you'll also run into issues with things like duplicate ore gen. It's very easy to get two mods that each add their own copper ore. One may even have a built in function to use the others, but the other may not so you can only use the copper ore it adds for it. You can usually do custom configs to make them each only use one, but it's a pain and time consuming to set that up yourself. That's where, again, already established mod packs make it so much easier.

If you do decide to go modded, I humbly present these as must have mods:
1. JourneyMap - Fantastic mini-map/fullscreen map. Also has a server component so anyone can view the map in real time and see where players are in the world using a browser.
Doesn't support 1.16.1 yet. Last version is for 1.15.2 and that's a beta. Last non-beta is for 1.12.
2. Iron Chests - Upgrades beyond wooden chests for increased storage. Copper (if copper ore is present through another mod) -> Iron -> Silver -> Diamond/Obsidian/Crystal. The last stage has 108 storage slots, that's the same as two vanilla larges but in a 1x1 area instead of 2x1.
Does support 1.16.1.
3. Tinker's Construct - Better tools and weapons including a hammer that can mine up to a 3x3 area. Makes digging large tunnels fast. Adds a couple nether ores that allow for super durable tools/weapons.
Does not support 1.16.1. Latest is for 1.12.

Honestly, to get a good selection of mods, you'll have to roll back to Minecraft version 1.12.

Add the MythicMobs plugin. I still have a lifetime subscription for them so I can get you the latest version if you want. Offers you the ability to create your own mobs and loot with its on skills system.
I can also create a config which will give us a george floyd mob!

Repeating my suggestion from earlier, add these permissions to we can use formatting codes in chat and on signs

Stick with paperspigot, modded servers which require players to download forge are a pain and REALLY suck up server resources. Its very stable compared to modern servers too if you dont want to deal with more headaches

first off @Null I'm glad you're having fun with this

please don't go with a modpack. while they're fun, people will always complain about their favorite mod being missing or that they couldn't login. and the bigger issue is that they have worse performance than the already struggling vanilla server.

1.12 is the best recent version for performance and a lot of big servers are still on this version.

Instead a basic set of server side plugins like plot claiming and some performance tweaks should be enough

Only problem with 1.12 is if we go vanilla we will be missing A LOT of new shit. Right now its running 1.16 and overall runs fine as long as no one is running into new chunks (again, this is why you always want to pre-generate the world beforehand). Most plugins are also starting to abandon support for 1.12 in favor of new versions too

Let's go back to Beta so we can see who's autistic enough to travel to the far lands

I was suggesting a lite modpack since the server was struggling with vanilla. Also, I think Twitch launcher makes it easy to just pair a handful of mods together into a private pack.

However, I fully accept official modded not working out. In place of that, I suggest we just raid one. Redditors post their servers everyday on /r/feedthebeastservers/. Some of them require accessing a gay discord to see their disgusting waifus, but a lot are just open with land claim. Those of us interested could just pile in, set up our own autonomous zone, and hope we don't get gassed for being to spicy.

Is this thing at least running paper?

does such a thing even exist? most modpacks I see have 60+ mods, in fact I've never seen a modpack with like 10 mods
All we need is just some things like chisel, thaumcraft or botania, astral sorcery, fast leaf decay and tinkers or engineers. Or the lost cities mod it makes the entire world a giant city instead of nature. Or if we want more dimensions I'd recommend either the Inbetween Lands or the Twilight Forest.

Pam's Harvestctaft has always been cozy AF.

They're are mod packs designed to run on weaker hardware. FTB usually had one each Minecraft version.

List of the Curse ones listed as Small or Light.
Come on man. The first pack on that list has 97 mods.
How is that "lite"?

These aren't lite mod packs just because they are under 100.

Is going back to 1.12 going to have so much performance gain that a server having trouble with 1.16 vanilla will have no or little issues running nearly 100 mods at 1.12?

Also, fuck Twitch and their launcher.
