Had a blast playing as Ian the dog yesterday. Died early to lavaland shenanays and asked admin for life. He said sure, but I'm gonna be a dog. I agreed. Proceeded to recruit research director as my personal minion while we go on an hour long quest through the departments to try and turn me borg, then use chemistry to turn me human, then we went to genetics, then finally to the nanite area. They all failed, of course. Also learned that Ian is immune to all disease, being injected, and radiation so that's cool. 10/10 Would be a cute dog who calls people nigger and gets pets again.

How do I create a character?

How do I become a space wizard?
On the start of the round, you might see a windows that says "Game Preferences", "Join Game!", "Observe", etc. You can click on "Game Preferences" to open a new window to create a new character, customize your role preferences, and a bunch of other stuff, such as some out-of-character settings (such as antagonist roles) and custom keybindings.
EDIT: As an added note, you might see "Space Wizard" under the list of antagonist roles.

I did fine as clown first game.

Lmao sorry moth person, thought you were aggro, wouldn't have bombed you otherwise.

can any of you fags teach roles to a retard like me? In the past I've been able to do cook and janny, but for the life of me I can't figure out roles like doctor, geneticist, security, etc. I've watched the tutorial videos on youtube but it's so much information I don't retain most of it. It's worse than college lectures.

I think Xenobiology might be an easy pick for you. Literally feed monkeys to slimes and watch them mutate and transform into different-colored slimes. Freeze them up, grind 'em, get extract and check the wiki and see what the extract does depending on what it is injected with.

Genetics is pretty easy. It's a guessing game where you match the gene codes of the monkeys in the machine. You only need to demonkify them by changing any of their genetic letters on the "monkified" mutation first.

I might join in at some point, but I'm already having enough fun reading the various shenanigans everyone's gotten into. The one trying to help someone who sawed his own head open and the other who kicked a vending machine which fell over and crushed him to death made me chuckle.

how 2 shitcurity:

1. If anyone does anything even mildly suspicious, kill them.

How 2 goodcurity:

1. Memorize space law, as well as the general nature of all antag roles
2. If someone breaks space law, change their security records to display how and when they did so, and set them to *ARREST*
3. Locate them, tell them their charges, and ask them to peacefully comply
4. If they peacefully comply, cuff them and take them to the brig
5. If they don't, taze them, then cuff them and take them to the brig
6. Give them the appropriate sentence in a cell for their crime according to space law, INCLUDING THE TIME IT TOOK TO ARREST THEM AND PROCESS THEM
7. Interrogate them and try to determine their loyalty to nanotransen
8. If you believe they are a tator, contact command staff and leave the decision to them
9. If there is no command staff, toss your tater in the permabrig
10. If you do not believe they are a tator, confiscate any contraband and release them, then set their record to *RELEASED*
11. If you see a lawyer, pretend to be busy and go somewhere else

Your role as security is to maintain law and order, to ensure that people are not breaking and entering and looting, and to generally keep the crew's access restricted as it should be. Your job is to make sure the chemist isn't bashing down the windows to engineering to steal some insulated gloves. Your job is NOT to be the gung ho antag-hunter (unless you are detective or HOS in which case it is exactly your job) and it is not to be batman. If you believe there is an antag, INFORM THE COMMAND STAFF AND OBEY THE CHAIN OF COMMAND. Do not go sicko mode unless you are ordered to or unless the antag is going sicko mode. As security you should always be reactive and never be proactive. Proactive security is anti-fun. Remember, a good ss13 round has a little bit of havoc in it, don't ruin that for people. As security you have an overwhelming and absolute power to fucking ruin a round for someone and your #1 responsibility is to not do that.

Also form close personal relationships with medbay because they are your God.

Some tips for genetics I've gathered over time
-Body bags are your friend! Not just for used up bodies, but you can trap an angry monkey in there and make it easier to get in the machine.
-Always keep some mutadone on you. The pills in the lab are very high dose (typically 50u) so it's best to put some water in a beaker and then dissolve the pill.
-^ This is even more important if you plan on mutating yourself (as you should), if you use too many mutations you'll just fucking die. Don't worry though, the game gives you a warning.
-If you can, get some potassium iodide from chem. It helps with radiation, and the genetics lab can be a dangerous place. (vodka can also get rid of small amounts of radiation- make friends with the bartender!)
-H.A.R.S. always happens when you least expect it. Don't forget to clean up.
-If you find the cough mutation, don't forget to make it inactivate as soon as possible. The cough spreads.
-Make some advanced injectors and leave them around the station for a little fun (My personal favorites? "Return to Monkey"- Monkified + whatever I'm feeling, and my other favorite has a different unassuming name each time, but it has dwarfism + epilepsy + tourette's + paranoia + an accent)
-Use floppy disks to save anything you don't want getting into the wrong hands

Edit:
Also, here's a quick list of mutation combos to keep in mind. I'm not sure which are in this version, though.
Radioactive + Strength = Hulk (Self explanatory, you become Hulk.)
Thermal Vision + Radioactive = X-ray Vision (May be removed, you just see everything) Yeah this was removed
Glowy + Void Magnet = Anti-Glow (You have a light-absorbing aura)
Insulated + Radioactive = Shock Touch (Self explanatory, you can shock people with your hands.)
Antenna + Paranoia = Mind Reader (You can "read minds"- you see their name, their intent, and some things they've said recently.)
Tongue Spike + Stimmed = Chem Spike (Lets you shoot your chemical-filled tongue out. Only once.)
Strength + Stimmed = Internal Martyrdom (You explode when you go into crit)

Sometimes when everything is going to shit, all you need is a nice brain cake.

I've been wondering one thing since I found this:

Did Null also carry over the gay ass Mining nerfs /tg/ implemented in the last few months as well or did he leave those out?

That last round was amazing. 2 stealth wizards plus 1 decoy wizard, a horrible virus released by accident, and a mutiny against sec probably led by the wizard swapped into a new body.

Wizard is probably the funnest antag, and it's the only one I have turned on.
