Official Space Station 13 Server

shorter rounds, etc.
You could really easily modify the player caps, the auto-shuttle call timer, and threat level values in the event scripts to make it so sleeper antags and random events occur more or less frequently. That kind of stuff requires no knowledge of byond's scripting and is probably enough to do what you want it to do.
I feel that there is a community that would want a spin on normal SS13. As I remember, early TGMC had lots of down time but people waited for a host to host daily. Players wanted a different spin on CM that didn't have spongy Xenos so they could have a HvX server that was closer to a game of rocket tag with far less teamwork. People have shown interest in changes.

Nah but my idea is to repurpose the escape shuttle code to have some sort of one hour delivery trips where antags are either dicking around (tots) or try to hijack the shuttle (nukies)

So it'd need a bit more coding (which I can do) and a complete map redesign.

Unrelated, I have an idea for a 10 - 20ish people server, shorter rounds, etc. I wonder how that would work... I know SS13 works with 40-60 people, but I wonder if people would be interested to try...
Ah... The good old days where 20 was high pop. Generally you knew the lads/lasses on server and people weren't dicks to the degree they are now.
Don't powergame
To be fair, the SS13 has a bad case of the devs-admins-player all hating each other and never being on the same page, so I kinda get that rule.
Baystation is a great example of that retardation. Devs would make something absurdly powerful, admins would abuse it, players would use it get banned/complain, admins would shit on devs, and then the players would get rid of the admin from drama fagging.

seems like i missed the fun what do you guys think of ss14
What a very well timed question, I come bearing the F-list of one of the big maintainers for SS14. I wish horny furfags would stick to second life and VRchat instead of turning every ss13 server into bashing 8 bit horsecocks into 16 bit space people.

A scat+vore obessed furry; every fucking time.

Also anyone know of other servers like Lifeweb but with more uptime? I used to play on farweb but that got shoah'd- and there is/was IS12 when they do the RP version.
Just looking into the deets on a new experience from the usual.

Pretty sure Matt runs a version reboot of Interbay somewhere. Too bad SS13 retards are autistic enough to DMCA over git code to clone features. Fuck AGPL but fuck the bullshit "retroactive licensing" they did even more. At least goon is CC-NY-SA 3.0

How hard is it just to keep that RP only, instead they have to show it on neatly generated list for everyone not a complete denegenerate to bleach their eyeballs out with.

This brings back memories of when I played regularly on one of the largest russian servers. Even was a mod for a short time until I got bored of it.
In terms of furfags and other fags it was almost free for all- you could run your disgusting tea-club orgies all you want, BUT you were not protected form the other players in any way, except for outright murder or blocking the ability to play (walling off, straight jacking for no valid reason etc.)
So when I played security me and the boys would conduct raids on their fur-fuck dens. All under the valid in character reason of increasing production and combating absense from work.
We would identify places where they congregate (usually the dormatories) through the sheer observations or through reports by other players.
Then we would assemble 4-6 men crew and bust the joint. We would block all exits, then the flashbangs fly in, Durand mech blocks the door to provide fire cover if the need arises, then we rush in and start working with our stun buttons.
These raids were the most organized things I've ever seen on any SS13 server from any players. They were incrediebly precise and clever- we would switche the frequencies (because of course the fags were meta-gaming and listening in on the SEC frequency), we would mantain silence unless there is something important to say, we would recruit crew members as spies and ask them to produce special equipment etc.
And the fags weren't some harmless sheep either. They would reguraly create explosives and attempt to allah-akbar security players when they were cornered. It was literally a fight against a well-organised, most likely coordinated through communications outside of the game, terrorist organization.
And those are the moments when SS13 shines- when you have clear antagonists and those antagonists are clearly defined and universally hated.

While I have never seen it to this extreme since I generally avoid places where furries congregate, my favorite captain announcement ever was “After watching security cameras I have decided to pay a bounty of 10000 credits to anyone who can bring me the head of a catbeast”

There's also sometimes funny shit just because the way the game works.
When baystation came out with the price valuation tool you could use it on a player mob, and it usually valued them less less than the price of a firearm (if not a chair) lol.

I had always meant to try Kiwistation when it was up, but I don’t remember why I never managed to log on. I see this thread get bumped ever so often and I thought that it might still be running. Shame about its fate.

What are the hardware requirements to host a decent SS13 server? I likely have the hardware and bandwidth.

Probably not that high, but the real problem is the logistical issue of maintaining a healthy community that isn't a deathmatch server; The reason why kiwistation got the plug pulled while /vg/ still lives on even if it's on life support.

I mean, if you want it to run well you'd either have to strip out the atmos code because I remember some fella running it on a top end home server config (like a fucking I9-10900KF) and it would still lag out and die.

Maybe? I don't know shit about the network side of things, but this is a problem solved by having enough money while the part about logistics requires a team of people dedicated enough to manage the game.

I like to browse the ban reasons on BeeStation every now and then. Here is a snippet of the absolute state of SS13 moderation.
BeeStation admins have a habit of noting you for everything you do (sometimes making bullshit/embellished notes which need to be disputed in a lengthy forum discussion/lecture) which builds up to harsher punishments.
I also like how he was essentially perma-banned from other non-combative department head roles.
SS13 is on par with GMOD-RP now. Don't feel bad for ban evading and CID spoofing to play out an honest spess men round.

Or just don't play on Bee. Bee's turned to shit for a while now.
