Ohio Student Suspended for Refusing to Leave Classroom During Gun Control Walkout

A high school student in Hilliard, Ohio, didn’t want to pick sides in the contentious gun debate surrounding Wednesday’s “National Walkout,” so he stayed in class instead of joining the largely anti-gun protest or an alternative “study hall.”

Hilliard Davidson High School senior Jacob Shoemaker was then reportedly slapped with a suspension.

The student argued that divisive politics have no place in America’s schools and he refused to take sides in the debate, according to the Associated Press.

Shoemaker's suspension citation was posted online, possibly by a friend, and the story quickly went viral.

“Student refused to follow instructions after being warned repeatedly by several administrators,” the letter said. “Student not permitted on school property.”

School district spokesperson Stacie Raterman said official policy prohibited school officials from leaving Shoemaker unattended in the building for “security reasons,” 10TV reported.

While Shoemaker said he didn't expect for his actions to generate so much attention, he is prepared to accept the consequences of his decision.

The kid would’ve been in the classroom by himself. No teachers or anything. That is clearly not a situation a school would want.

It wasn’t a conspiracy to “force kids to walk out”. Providing a single room for non participants makes supervising them easier.

And many schools around the country did, in fact, punish students for walking out: http://www.chicagotribune.com/subur...ools-protesters-detention-20180316-story.html

Why the heck did they suspend him? I don't think participating in that "walk-out" would be mandatory, and if it is, it shouldn't be.

In other words, kids who didn't want to participate in the walkout were forced to walk out anyway. He was the only kid in that school smart enough to figure it out.

Serious talk, why aren't there parents being outraged over this? This is infringing on the rights to get an education, and the students who don't wish to forgo that right are being punished for not getting in line. The school needs to be reprimanded for this, not celebrated.

I have relatives who are close to Hilliard and heard the kid was actually in a room he wasn't supposed to be in, during the whole pre "walk out" he slipped into a classroom where some of his friends were and wouldn't leave

It wouldn't be the first time Hilliard Davidson was this exceptional since they had a school shooting warning not too long ago

Most of the kids doing the walk-outs couldn't give less of a shit about guns. They're just going along with any excuse to not be bored out of their skulls like every other day.

But anyway, Hilliard schools have a reputation throughout Ohio for stupidly liberal teachers/staff/parents that like to goad the kids into virtue signaling for them. Looks like a kid didn't feel like playing along for once.

You'd think they'd learn that when they hold up certain groups as the champions of decency and proof that the evil and legitimately-elected government is doomed, and said groups immediately rob Wal Marts and bean other people with bike locks..... it only makes you realize just how much they WISH it was true, and by extension, how much contempt they hold the system in because it lets wrong-thinkers have a say too.

They don't learn, that's why they keep tilting at windmills when it comes to Trump. They never learn and that's why it's laughable when they try to pose as the moral authority in our society. They're like children who are throwing a temper tantrum until they get their way.

Exactly. The kids are being used as props for a coordinated political rally. Those that don't want to participate get shoved into some corner away from the cameras to "study".

Good on this kid for giving this whole thing a big fuck you.

the problem is there wasn't any teachers willing to refuse to toe the Democratic line and stay in school to take care of the dissenters. These are 20 something retard teachers that listen to their boomer masters to seem progressive. They were all taught by literal communists.
