Thread about old board games.

My favorite old board games are chess (I suck at it), checkers (AKA English draughts - I'm at least competent in it), and Go (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_(game) - I suck at Go too).

I'm slowly learning more abstract strategy games. I do a weird niche panel at conventions about Chess History, and I'm trying to get good enough to teach basic strategy as a second panel. I also am interested in Go and Shogi, but very rarely get the chance to play them.

Does Tiddly Winks count?

I used to play chess a lot as a child and enjoyed it. However the last time I played it I got check mated almost instantly.

Not exactly a board game, but I recall playing "Hungry Hungry Hippos" as a kid. Loud as hell.

I tried to get good at Go, I even have a nice set, but I royally suck at it. I had been studying for a few months and I got my ass handed to me by a guy who just started playing a week before.

Chess I'm a bit better at though. I'd play chess regularly but there's not any chess clubs around here and I'd prefer to play in person.

In first grade my whole class played Jumanji with the school librarian. It'd probably be more fun with fewer people though. I remember I royally pissed off my teacher when I was the only one who shouted Jumanji when we reached the goal. I'm pretty sure she was ready to send me to the office until the librarian congratulated me for being the only one to remember to shout Jumanji at the goal.

I used to play Chinese Checkers a bit, but it's been so many years I don't remember how to play anymore. I like Monopoly but nobody else ever wants to play it. Aside from Yahtzee (which doesn't exactly count for this thread) my family's game of choice is Clue.
