Old Roblox Nostalgia Thread - Before Roblox became the central hub for online gaming degeneracy.

What happened? The last ones before I left in 2019 were full on collectathons with a shocking amount of detail.
They stopped officially doing them shortly after, not exactly sure if it was the next year or that year. Even though they were essentially just spearheaded by the community at that point and the work Roblox themselves was doing was microscopic. Since then they've been spamming this shit.
I have zero nostalgia for 2011, I remember when people were saying that 2009 was the worst year for roblox on the roblox forums and when I was playing in 2011 I was literally thinking there is no way that roblox could become a worse platform. But after seeing that you can make a full fledged antro fur suits for your character. I was definitely dead wrong
That's the direct consequence of UGC (user generated content) a program that expanded user submittable items to hats among other things. All the furry shit is made by just a few obvious furfags that Roblox should have been able to recognize were furfags from a mile away but I guess just didn't give a shit. At least the main guy responsible for these items was vetted by them in the initial run of accepted users.

They started doing sponsored gay ass events, it makes me mildly MATI. My main account got banned around that time so I stopped playing Roblox at around that time.
Events used to be fucking awesome, then they gradually started getting into sponsored events and it eventually became the only thing we got. Some of them were decent, but the rest (especially what's been seen the last few years) are awful.

If it makes anyone feel better, Roblox Studio is pretty fucking good nowadays.

Or so I've heard. :smug:

it really doesn't, I feel like new features just makes creating games worse because you literally have to become essentially a wage cuck to make a game that is able to compete with anything, so I feel like all the new features just sound like an extra burden you have to deal with if you want to make a game that people will want to play. so yeah, even though there was less features in the past it was way more fun to just create a concept that you thought was cool that took less than a day to make and have other people be interested enough to join it even if people were only able to be interested your game for a day. That is what made making games actually fun in the past.

I heard that that some of the people working for roblox were furries so I figured that is why roblox is cool with furfaggotry and they probably like the idea that they can use a billion dollar corporation to be able to expose their fetishes to children

There are 100% staff that are furries but it's hard to tell just how much influence they have in the company. I think it's really more just Roblox leadership caring more about the cash and whatever reputation they think they have. The guy that got sued by Roblox (RubenSim) seemingly got sued because he exposed a mod as being a furry with nsfw connected to his name, at least that was the last straw in R$ minds since he'd poked the bear before so to speak. Nothing that warranted such a legal bullshit outcome.

On a related note, the current moderators of Roblox are absolutely god awful. It's their actual job to moderate, they get paid a full salary for it; yet they don't get anything worth a damn done. It's taken their visceral hatred for Ruben Sim for them to actually do their fucking job through his secondary Moderation for Dummies Twitter account that he created after noticing he was being put on constant surveillance by Roblox.
The account has people publicly message him links to bad shit on Roblox of which he proceeds to tweet about for the staff surveilling him to take action on. It's hilariously pathetic.

When it comes to the relatively simple task of moderation, Roblox mods are worse than your average Reddit or Discord mod; who are doing it in their free time with no pay.

You can still do good with simpler games, but you need a great concept and word of mouth imo.

The older Zoomers are in their mid 20's now.
Depends on who's definition. I'd argue the 2000s cut off makes more sense not just because of the millenium but because 9/11 had govs changing so much about the world but I guess late 90s kids wouldn't remember the world as it was before those decisions either.

Anyone else remember Tinfoilbot and the orb community? Those were my glory days.
Late but surprised to see it mentioned, pleasantly so.
Did the whole irony thing before it was quite as common as it is nowadays in the internet comedy sphere, i always liked tin's antics.
Think he bailed out at the right moment, didn't try to rag on a dead horse for too long and his content would be somewhat unnoteworthy nowadays.
He'll be a hallmark for people who are in the know about the earlier days of roblox.

As for the actual topic of the discussion, definitely feel that 2009 to 2015 were the prime years, lots of small creative games with just enough depth and complexity that the toolset allowed to be fun and engaging.
The worst you'd see was usually just some copy paste obby, even the tycoons back then were at least somewhat unique on an individual basis (thanks berezaa tycoon kit for ruining that).
Can't say games haven't improved in terms of visuals and quality ever since but perhaps not for the better in some cases, i feel the place has lost a lot of it's "soul"/"vibe" of being a silly place for people to make silly games on, everything seems to be about making bank and baiting children into spending more of their mommy's credit card.
Not that roblox never was about that, it's just that the various game developers now seem more intent on it then ever as well with all these crappy carbon copy simulator and pet gambling games.

There's still some good stuff on roblox though, i still occasionally log on to play zeppelin wars, NVZT2 or when the update drops fantastic frontier, but the limelight seems to focus primarily on cashcow baby games which makes sense from a financial standpoint.
If it weren't for the fact i joined way back i probably wouldn't have bothered getting into roblox, right now i'm just holding out for the few pieces of content that i still find enjoyable.

Even if modern Roblox is nearly 99% gacha games, there's still a few diamonds in the rough that I can recommend that have somewhat active devs: Project Stardust, Countless Worlds, & Critical Tower Defense.

Project Stardust is World of Warships, but in space and commiting copyright infringement on 3 different franchises (SW, SBY & Halo). It's a game to scratch that autistic collectathon itch. Most tech trees are complete (has destroyer/frigate, carrier, battleship lines), and most models are impressively modelled (ex. Thanatos). You can reasonably get end-tier ships of constant grinding, and the premiums are reasonably priced. The only downside is that it runs on the God-forsakened Roblox engine and rubberbands constantly.

Countless Worlds is a work-in-progress that's a blend between Runescape & Fantastic Frontier together. It has a pleasing art style, following a high-poly Fantastic Frontier, and has a focus on grind and exploration. It's currently a demo (and most of the quests is still unfinished), but what's on display shows genuine love for itself.

Critical Tower Defense is a single-dev project that's one of the harder but more creative TDs I played. The game is balanced for co-op, but avoids the blob-fest most TD's eventually devolve, focusing on attributes to retain difficulty. Because of this, starting the game is utter ass; with you having no tools to counter these enemies. Still, none of the lower towers are filler, and the starter tower becomes really good after obtaining a perk.
The best part is the massive amount of content within the game. There's loads of fun challenges to obtain perks and towers, and a subsection called "Operations" which hold puzzle-like maps with custom rounds. I recommend cSTD highly for just how good and tight it's progression system is. Little to no fluff is found, and it has fits a different niche compared to BTD6.

Thank DevEx and the removal of tickets for turning almost every ROBLOX game into that. The latter especially, since it meant that if you wanted to make anything from your game, the only real way available to you would be adding microtransactions and gamepasses.
I started in 2010, and even though the games were much worse from a technical standpoint, they felt a lot more soulful.

What's most depressing is that it is in fact possible to still make these soulful games, it's just not incentivised.
It's a product of the shifting goals roblox has been striving for, the sterilization efforts i've been seeing all over the internet have hit roblox very hard and the place hardly resembles what it was 10 years ago.
The games went from fun autism projects to cashgrab gacha games meant to pinch pennies from literal children.
I suppose the old guard that's still around feels distinctly distanced from what the place has become in recent years, suppose anyone who pictures the red and white R when they close their eyes and hear the word roblox will feel much the same.

Roblox's sterilization and loss of soul can be perfectly summarized in the change of their logo.

Never forget what they took from us.

Off Topic (and the ROBLOX forum in general) was wild as fuck until they decided to shut it down. Miss it.

Otherwise I'm not too wazzed up about ROBLOX nowadays as it's more of a corporate cesspool than anything. Only a few good games remain in the absolute stockpile of "simulators" and tycoon games.

Did you also know that ROBLOX tends to die without fail every Saturday because Pet Simulator X or Adopt Me is updating? Talk about a multi-billion dollar gaming platform getting destroyed weekly by a single game, it's just like Kiwi Farms during the #DropKiwiFarms saga!
