I missed something in the emails even after re-reading. What "months ago mistake" caused Barb to take away Chris' car keys for a while?

It could have been a number of things. At this point in time it was likely the credit card stuff. Chris got some credits cards that he wasn't suppose to have and racked up like $3,000 in debt that Bob had to pay off for him (it wasn't the first time and it wasn't the last).

My guess would be the Ohio trip, when Chris dared to assert his independence. Who could have predicted when Chris learned to drive that this would allow him to go places against Barb's will?

I've heard 14BLC described as many things, but "the house that love built" is a new one for me. This throws a whole new light on Chris burning it down.

I'm thinking they wanted Chris to get his license, only to run errands for him, and so they wouldn't have to drive him around anymore. It's plainly obvious they never expected, or wanted Chris to grow up, so that's the only conclusion.

Maybe it's just me, but I still found all of these fascinating. Applying for all kinds of jobs (with very limited hours that he'd be available, obviously because of his many other commitments), asking some poor Wal-Mart employee to measure his bust size, hating online job applications, hating the PVCC online system because he had to type in a number, getting dizzy thinking about trolls.

After he got his liscense he attended college for a few years and briefly held a job. Those are valid and productive reasons for needing to be able to drive.

I think Bob did expect Chris to grow up. He forced him through an Associates Degree and always seemed pretty disappointed with his failures in life. He just wasn't sure how to apportion blame for that between Chris, trolls, and society in general.

He also kept driving him to job interviews even as recently as the Jackie saga, and he made Chris own up to his credit-card debt, had him pay his parents a little bit for rent, "got into argumentative sparring" because he felt Chris was... Well, Chris.

Poor bob so clueless that a drafting certificate wouldn't get anybody anywhere. Oh and that an aa degree is mostly just used for transferring.
