So I initially wanted to make this thread for Rise of the Triad, both the original and remake. Then, due to noticing that I might not get much discussion on such an obscure but awesome title, I decided why not encompass all first person shooters and franchises of such games made before the days of your newfangled Halos and noscope nonsense (so reboot and remake discussion is welcome here as well). If it's from the 90's, had a first person POV, and was an action game where one of the main goals was to shoot enemies until they die, then talk about it here.

As you can tell, I've been having a blast with that Wolenstein sequel where Blazkowicz was supposed to fight a triad of corporations but instead snorts cocaine and huffs ether before changing his name and landing on an island off the coast of California with four drugged up special agents to fight a cultRise of the Triad lately. The remake could kick all kinds of ass if they'd done better work on optimization (I'm not exactly asking for it to run on a 486 but I shouldn't have to tweak config files to get a smooth framerate and still encounter crashes from video memory errors), and the original, which I dug up for experimentation purposes, is still fun as ever.

RoT is awesome.

Fun guns, wacky mobs and tones of things that go BOOM!

Still...Quake 2 rules my heart with an iron fist but I do cheat on it with Doom 2 when Q2 is out of town.

One of the main goals is shooting the enemy until they die and it doesn't use or at least abuse scripted scenes.

I don't really consider SS2 an FPS like I consider Doom or Quake. Shooting isn't really the main way you traverse the environment. And considering how the shooting in SS2 is really bad it's not what I remember most about it.

I consider it an FPS mainly due to using firearms in the builds I play as. Even then, I thought shooting in SS2 was good though I do wonder from your point of view, what makes it really bad?

Also, just to mention another Build engine game:

Like Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior, it not only ran on the Build engine but enemies could also make you get wrecked if you weren't careful. Even then, one thing to remember is this from Caleb.

Compare the gunplay and how sluggish it is in SS2 with the gunplay in Duke Nukem 3D and Blood.

Anyone still have the original Deus Ex? That game was friggin amazing. I'm still amused on how the Dragon Sword made the game bloke.
I went for the Illuminati ending. I would rather not be fused with an AI thank you very much.

The Marathon series dominated my childhood. They are a bit obscure (2 of the 3 were Mac-only) but they were what Bungie created before the Halo series and are thematically similar to them.

Is no one going to pull out the King?

Moonshine, shotguns and aliens. What more could anyone ask for?

Anyone remember CarnEvil? Not really an FPS in the Doom sense, because it was a rail shooter in one of those arcade consoles with a gun that were popular in the 90s, around the same time and somewhat similar to the original House of the Dead. For the time, it had some ridiculously disgusting and gross graphics, like the following: a giant zombie baby named Junior who you blow away with a machine gun while he vomits all over you.

The guy playing is a scrub. That is the easiest of the boss monsters.

Played that years ago on my old PC, I never had the chance to finish it. It was good for what I remember. I liked the First FPS I ever played and finished. That was half- life on the PS2. I've always been more of a platform person.
