the best part about this game is despite the fact that troons and faggots love it

the main character just has a crush on aubrey. the girl. thats it

and there are no niggers in this game. zero

this game has zero niggers

THERE ARE NO NIGGERS OR BROWN PEOPLE IN THIS GAME
im pretty sure one of the characters have dark skin.

>13 year old daughter commits suicide
>Father plays omori because his daughter loved the game and did this to connect with her
>praises the game for it's artsy represention of trauma and guilt

Bruh why would you let your child play the emo suicide game, did you think it was a cutesy harmless rpg wtf

cant blame the game for being the key factor for offing herself. she made up her mind long before that.

He didnt blame the game (or else i'd mention it) and says she died out of a "medical condition" so it's more likely she already had some sort of illness and/or was on meds. TBH it's mostly a generic recap of the game and the #feels.

That video now has over a million views in 2 months too so it probably got more normies into omori, funny enough.

Well okay, but how does it suck?

Details man, details!
The pacing is way too fast, the 60 pages cover what's around 7 hours of story from playing the game, the small amounts of foreshadowing the original game had has been completely removed and you get spoiled on mid-game plot details immediately, removing most of mysteriousness from the early parts of the story. It feels like they want to wrap this up in just 10 chapters or less, which could totally be their intention. I cannot imagine what It would be like reading the manga before playing the game, but I probably would have also not liked it as much. I'm personally not too excited about following this anymore but if anyone else likes it, good for them.

Manga website is literally not avaiable on my country so i had to track a spanish ass host that i cant barely read but anyway

1-The Manga gives zero fucks about the original pacing. It starts with Basil promising they'll always be friends, then the christmas party then Sunny sees a broken violin and Mari transforms into something in front of him then he wakes up.

2-Sunny eats steak, sees Something in the bathroom and panics with the knife. Sunny hears knocking and dramatically scaredly goes to it and its Kel wanting to hang out. Curiously Kel actually says "I wanted we all to meet again but... you know aubrey... and basil... anyway".

1719281147366.png

This is weird because game Kel admits he didnt think Sunny would open the door and had no plan at all. The way Manga Kel talks isnt portrayed as a funny dork but a cool/confident guy.

3-This manga has a [STRONG YAOI AURA]. Sunny wont stop blushing around Kel and keeps holding other boy's hands. Even Kel is drawn weirdly handsome.

1719282095500.png1719282123462.png
1719282150759.png

Not only is this gay but kinda kills the original mood. Sunny meeting Kel was this awkward moment where you meet a friend who doesnt match your memories, now its almost romantic.

4-They buy the book at the shop and talk a bit. Kel says they should make a party and maybe everyone will get together again, another thing he didnt say in the original. We meet basil and here we watch him get smacked by aubrey.

The encounter is portrayed different here, with Kel being more stressed out about them being friends and not bringing up sunny at first, and Aubrey calling sunny a coward, saying he failed to save mari, that she will not forgive him, seemingly going to crack his head. Sunny has a panic attack seeing something, and cuts aubrey hard. Aubrey drops the album and he faints when he sees a mari picture.

1719284216828.png("you willnot run away this this. I wont forgive you")

THEN we get Omori intro, he takes over and we meet the dream versions. Kid aubrey is much more explicitly adoring of Omori here, in the game she doesnt start like this. Omori finally meets Mari and the chapter ends.

So like, i'm not sure who the fuck is this for??? If it's for newcomers the pacing is too disjointed and bad to follow, and if it's for old fans they wont like the skipped stuff. At best this is al anternate canon to give more insight on the cast on what the game didnt, at worst it's yaoi bait.

I saw the yaoi aura shit coming a mile away but I'm still disappointed. All the more annoying since the only explicitly canonical romance Sunny experiences is his crush on Aubrey. Which is in itself odd since the game's creator is into yaoi big time. People refer to the game as faggot or troon pandering which is so ironic since it has neither, unless there was some obscure and out of the way gay couple or some really minor one I forgot.

I played it +3 years ago but i dont remember any lgbt stuff or even political agendas, at most you get Sunny and Basil being extremely queerbaited but still left vague. There are literally 0 lgbt characters in the game, unless you count like, Spaceboyfriend artist saying he's trans in a tumblr post. The fandom was taken over by tumblr shippers who ruined the game's reputation.

But the manga sure seems to be doubling down on shipper fuel shit. Manga basil gets this very romantic shot which i expected but sunny nonstop blushing around Kel is bizarre. Sunny x Kel is actually surprisingly popular but the ship makes no logic canonwise, it only exists because tumblr needed a non-toxic yaoi ship. So either omocat or the artist are well aware of their fanbase and decided to pander to them.

I remind that both of those are into shotacon, if memory serves.

It seems to me that Omocat had just enough sense to suppress their urges for the sake of the game, but now that it's been infested by the LGBTQP+ fanbase virus anyway they can indulge in it.

Kinda super late here but twitter found out a week ago omori manga artist drew incest pedo yaoi before and some drama i missed

I cant find those links but afaik omocat hasnt confirmed or denied anything. It sure makes the incredibly childish looking manga designs and all the kid blushing a bit weirder. I wonder if this drama will return next episode.

So the chapter 2 of omori manga released if anyone cares

1-It starts with them watching the album, but there is a lot more Mari shilling now. People commenting how she's a great cook and "good at everything" and works so hard.

2-Here they say boss stole their food last time but they will protect mari. Basil says they should befriend boss but boss appears and grabs him, upset he wasnt invited. Everyone except omori smacks boss. Boss runs at mari and only then Omori takes action and slashes boss who loses. Basil then befriends boss, who reacts like a tsundere.

The main change here is that Mari is actually involved and omori isnt attacked but protects mari. I get the feeling Mari will be present in the incoming important fights too.

3-Everyone except mari goes to basil house and without fights, it goes mostly the same. But here Basil finds a pic of something and instead of saying "Mari... she's-" *cut to the stairs*, he screams Omori for help. He then wakes up back to real life omori and basil.

4-Mostly the same but there is a significant difference in how Kel tells Basil "We are still friends. I want you to remember that." Manga Kel looks dead serious and Basil has an ominous nervous smile (IMPLCATIONS). In the game it looks like Kel was just being polite and Basil turns away sadly as if he's not convinced.

1722215847651.png (Kel with more yaoi aura)

5-Aubrey throws away the album crying and goes to church. In game she does that after church. Church will probably be chapter 3.

tl;dr: Better than previous chapter, the stuff it skipped was really inconsequential (tutorial fights and hide and seek) but there are still a few core differences on characters and how the dream pacing will go.

The main thing here is that Sunny will finish day 1 before stairs/height phobia and clearing the moon in the dream so the logic of overcoming fears to unlock new stages is fucked already. I dont think they're cutting the real life nightmare sequences but the dream stuff will probably get agressive skips. I expect spaceboyfriend and sweetheart chapters to be melded into one quick dream to save time, probably get mari involved into it too.

End of the month so i'm reminded omori manga exists, i found chapter 3 here on this tweet, they also link to previous chapters

Ok so this chapter starts with Kel not finding aubrey and then the hooligans are running from the candy store lady cause they stole shit and kel follows them hoping to find aubrey. This is very different from game already but when Kel asks kim about aubrey she keeps running, so sunny throws a random ass can he found in the trash at her and it doesnt even come close (at least she stops to mock him) then kel kicks the can and headshots her (what).

1725052839774.png
(very different from game already)

1725052899247.png
Heck yea hit those girls Kel (why did that make her stop running)

1725052963616.png
(Weirdly molesty angle there)

Kim asks why should she tell when they abandoned aubrey first and then candy lady reaches and says she'll take over and hand her to the police lol.

I was expecting something different but not this much. Game Kim got away with robbing candy but Japan does NOT think stealing is cute nor quirky so of course the manga plays it very seriously, to the point Kel and Sunny feel sorry for Kim. Sunny sees Kel is sad, so he gives him some money and Kel pays for Kim and apologizes lying about her being his friend.

1725053368078.png
This manga is so cliche with it's shots and angles lol.

Kel is also clever enough to know this lets him pressure her for an answer.

1725054114199.png
Why is Kel potrayed as "unironically Cool" in this manga? Kim blushes next panel too.

They go to the church and find aubrey and ask about Basil album. She says she's protecting it from Sunny and Kel. Kel says they used to be friends, and she agrees. USED to be, not anymore. Kel gets sad and says Mari wouldn't like that. Aubrey gets pissed and calls him out. In the game she was like "mari is dead bro" but here she freaks out when mari is mentioned.

1725054708784.png
Remember this AWFUL line? Manga aubrey doesnt say it god bless.

1725054566146.png
(People be mad but i always agreed with Aubrey here. Kel is kinda of shitty friend and his entitlement is offensive)

1725054583168.png
You fucked up Kel.

This exchange goes different in the manga cause it feels like Kel actually cares while in game it felt like he doesnt give a fuck AT ALL. Manga Kel insists it's not true while game Kel gives a half assed apology.

1725054868118.png

Kel gets a much better callout here because Aubrey explicitly says kel moved on to other friends, then she bashes Sunny too but this time Kel gives the "You don't know what he's been through" and IMO it works better at the church than a random offhand mention in their first game encounter.

1725055112497.png
Okay, manga Kel is just a whole different character lol.

Kel gives a more extreme apology for "anything she wants" and he's here now. Aubrey refuses and grabs his shirt and yells, so the church people start commenting all the mean shit about her and aubrey goes away crying. Sunny then gets a flashback of his childhood with the team wand watching Aubrey cry then he does a significant change from the game.

Sunny holds aubrey's face and Kel defends aubrey from the church people.

1725055568187.png
(he didnt hug her so i dont get the symbolism here) (edit: It hit me that he's covering her ears so she doesnt hear the mean comments, lmao what a nerd)

1725055593597.png
(actually good friend kel)

Aubrey pushes sunny away and says she threw the album in the thrash. Kel says Aubrey changed but she's still the same person so deep inside he feels like they're still friends. This twists what he said in the game where Kel was implying Aubrey didnt grow up. He says they should dig every garbage in town now (why not just hers dummy).

We get a transition to omori and everyone says basil disappeared and "it's almost like something took him away" (*laugh track*). Aubrey is crying about basil and Kel encourages her saying he must be waiting for them. Hero says they'll find basil and pulls the literal world map. Kel says they should take the ladder to the moon but aubrey says Omori is afraid of heights and then the chapter ends.

TL;DR: This chapter is mostly the Kim encounter and the church scene and i (imo) find it better than the game
mostly because i hate the church scene and everyone involved in it. The manga kinda fixes that, making both kel and sunny come across as much better human beings.

If anything this chapter highlights how badly written the game church scene was. Next chapter should definitely be the moon stage and the album recovery, i expect the stage to be shortned to only Pluto and spaceboy meeting tho. The only thing i dont like is that Sunny is going to omori without sleeping but i guess it's a sacrifice they're willing to make for pacing.

Found this google doc with all omori manga chapters so far, they released chapter 4 a week ago

So this chapter starts with the ladder, and Sunny never got over his fear in the real world so he does in the game this time. Omori is shown panicking but everyone says it'll be fiiiiine.
1727965583550.png1727965565804.png1727965624596.png

I'm not sure i like this cause the manga was really leaning on Sunny being really emotive while Omori doesnt show anything so he felt like some sort of dissociative cope, but now he's just panic blushing like Sunny.

They climb the moon and walk through a field where they get attacked by space bunnies real quick. Omori separates from the group following some footprints and reaches the barn and meets shadow basil in a dark hallway with splotched paintings.

1727966026880.png

In the original game, this happens at the END of the chapter, after you fight spaceboy but here it happens right after the ladder.

Shadow basil says omori is still there and he should remember. He then disappears and we see a picture of mari playing piano with the music book.

1727966067389.png1727966093116.png1727966114950.png

This is very different from the game where shadow basil didnt talk and the picture was a family picture. There is no keyboard key either.

Omori reaches the painting and Something comes out, he attacks something but gets hurt and runs away. Then the manga does a VERY OBVIOUS SIMILARITIES that heavily foreshadow something's idendity that i'll spoiler.

1727966247333.png

1727966264904.png

1727966277999.png

1727966805881.png

The manga draws something with hair-like tendrils then shows how much it looks like Mari's. Basil also gives him part of THE PICTURE.

And then omori meets mari after running away. This is also very different from the game where he goes to white space right after.

Then we cut to Kel, Aubrey and hero appearing in the junkyard searching for omori and basil and they find spaceboy inside a random ass container and have a boss fight.

1727966993263.png1727967006405.png

I really don't like this part cause it feels like the manga writter legit didnt know how to incorporate spaceboy in the plot and gave them a filler fight. I wonder if they'll lose until pluto appears out nowhere and helps them cause i dont see the manga skipping pluto.

BTW the manga is apparently paid to acess now, which means nothing to me cause i cant acess it anyway and have to pirate it already.

just played it. I like the game. Some people were saying it was gay? but I don't see it

Sorry for sperging again (another sleepless night).

Another problem I have with the dream world is that... for being a "dream," its a bit too coherent. Dreams are supposed to be strange and weird--a thing that Yume Nikki nails perfectly. Omori though feels like just a terminally uncreative person trying to make Mario worlds--here's the water level, here's the desert, here's the forest, etc.--with structure that makes too much sense and in fact, a lot of real-world logic (the bicycles that power the thing in that one area).

Then of course there's the actual narratives, where things like Sweetheart and Space Boyfriend are too consistent across multiple nights. Speaking as someone who keeps a dream diary, I have never seen a dream work like this--if a person ever recurs in my dreams, they're gonna be under completely different circumstances.

It really feels like they came up with a narrative first, then decided later to say it was a dream in order to justify all the things they couldn't think of an actual rationale for--or just to excuse the lolrandom bits they didn't want to bother making sense of.

Also as other people have said, its a bit stupid that during the fight with Aubrey the game tries to be all "this is real life, you idiot!" then proceeds to have every battle in the real world work just like the ones in the dream (to the point where all the skills and equipment buffs carry over) anyway.

So essentially, the game is feeling like a mish-mash of ideas Omocat thought were cool, strung together with duck tape.
from what I can find wikipedia says the Mindspace was meant to be more surreal

"The imaginary world of Headspace was based on lucid dreaming, and to instil a dreamlike tone, concepts for were devised as it was created. Initially, Headspace was envisioned as a crayon-like world with more experimental gameplay, but this was scrapped due to difficulty designing, testing and programming such a setting. Eventually, Omocat utilised a more unconventional design along these lines for "Black Space".

Reminder: The best JRPG was released 13 years ago.
