Manga is still going. If anyone cares about omori fanmade stuff there were a few revealed 2 days ago on this "omori direct".

Someone is working on a Omori x Undertale crossover game where john omori goes to undertaleland. Lets see if it releases before deltarune chapter 3.

You know how undertale fanbase has alternate universes and swaps? Meet Hikki of the valley, another OMARI AU fangame, but you might not know that since the original OMARI fangame was cancelled. Almost nothing is shown and it's in development.

Breaking Spice 2: This is a year old video but it's a 52 minute long shitpost fan """"film"""" of Breaking Bad, Omori, Undertale and FNAF. If that appeals to you for some reason, this channel will release the sequel "soon" that appears to be uh, higher effort.

Naomi: Omori except it features someone's OCs. This video has 10 views. Making anything original is hard so good luck for them. In development (not a lot of finished stuff here today)

Pink tinted love: This is a fangame (or mod?) that is literally just Sunny and Aubrey talking and dating. This release +6 months ago and was finished but is somehow still getting content expansions, proving that shippers are the most dedicated autists in this fandom.

EGGSPACE: Another Omori with OCs but really rough and clearly lacking in polish, but an actual game and not a mod or fangame. Could this be the first Omori-like? Only has DEMO.

Omotale: Yes, there is a second undertalexomori crossover. Man didn't post any links, you'll just have to watch the trailer i posted in the first link.

Rainy Mari: Another OMARI AU game except maybe this one will happen? Look fairly polished and SPOOKY as if this was the only dev in this list that is trying to make a horror game so it has potential. Demo in 2025 (allegedly)

tl;dr: One aubrey x sunny shipper is carrying the omori mod scene.

Might be saying something no one here paid any mind to the 5th Year Anniversary being yesterday. That game has entirely transitioned into a cadre of fan fiction networks, ranging from remarkable effort posting through all shades of tumblr art quality to true pedo brimstone.

So it goes

I guess it just didn't have much staying power.
The plot famously goes nowhere for most of it - a classic indie game scourge...

Then again, most indie games don't have a long shelf life anyway.
Most games don't.

Needed to be episodic like Deltarune, duh.

It's strange because OMORI is engineered to target the tumblr crowd, from artstyle to dynamics to archetypes to depression etc but that type of fandom is supposed to develop naturally.

I said here years ago but Omori was doomed by it's twist and ending that are huge spoilers that lost most of it's emotional value by being memed harder than DDLC rope jokes. They're so vague that instead of encouraging discussions, it leads to one note boring arguments that get tiresome fast, like sunny is good vs bad and its deep vs not deep.

This being modern tumblr fanbase, it's full of children who can't talk about SUICIDE and #problematicstuff so this fanbase has no edge and it's all happy vibes, cry hugging and austism headcanons. At least undertale had those edgy AUs.

Sunny is also too much of a silent blank slate for this personal story so there is nothing to talk about. His traumas are all self explanatory and simple. I'd argue the manga harmed the story tremendously by canonizing Sunny as a silent doormat, thus making him not even a good self insert and an overall lame protagonist.

Another thing that wasn't mentioned here is that Omocat did an anniversary FAQ and said the dreamworld is all made of inside dev jokes and drawings that makes no sense and they thought was funny. You see a banana on the floor and it says "eternal banana" and that's it, it's funny. This retroactively worsens the game because many people swore that there is a lot of hidden symbolism everywhere like it's a silent hill game but no, it's 99% random bullshit.

But i think Omori simply was not that well written to be worth being autistic over it. It's not actually about depression and hikikomoris. It's dream setting is wasted (compare it to jimmy). It only has 6 characters worth caring and they were all safe unproblematic perfect friends with zero tension until *that day* that made them all sad.

It's game that is best enjoyed when you turn off the brain, feel the intended emotions, cry at the end and move on.

The “Omori boy” drafts where him and Basil were chuds would have been far more compelling and interesting. Revising them into twinky losers was a downgrade that as you said took the bite out of story and the decisions you have to make, in particular making “saving them” be a moral quandary or mean something more than “offing yourself is wrong”.

Also Faraway town in general (which has way too little screen time) is such a plain and pleasant setting that the dark secret feels far out of place. At the very least the visual setting could have been made to look a bit rougher/sadder (again like the OG concept art) to make the actual plot more of a journey. Having Sunny mainly have to contend with scooter riding punks addicted to stealing candy is so corny as to be completely ridiculous, even if you go along with Mari’s death being in the past and especially when connected to other factoids we have to care about like Aubrey’s mom being an alcoholic.
In short the tone is all over the place without the character or plot quality to make it flow.

I was reminded of this game by a review since it really just kinda petered out into the 2020s, and I'm not gonna lie I did NOT remember it being this much slop , but that being said, Sunny and Basil being asshole chuds who still regret the incident would honestly be far more interesting, because the fandom's view of them and the incident wouldn't be tainted by Omocat's instincts acting up and reducing them to innocent uwu shotabait with zero development.
But for the final game, I'd say Aubrey casually carrying around a deadly weapon while leading the gang from Ed Edd n Eddy more than fits the story due to how already corny it is, with the manslaughter coverup being so ridiculous and unexplained its own fandom memes it, the phobias meaning nothing aside from Acrophobia and all getting resolved by Sunny taking a deep breath and being marginally less of a pussy, a random make-believe dungeon about fighting recycling cultists in the rw, and sunny conjuring his dead sister's ghost to say "bro it's okay you killed me, then traumatized your parents and entire friend group for zero reason" in his head then proceeding to tell them what he did a couple of hours before it's time to bounce and leave town.

Omori's plot-twist destroyed the story for me. If the setting was Japanese it would be vaguely understandable, but it's ridiculous for what's like AMERICAN 10 year olds to think that having your older sister falsely commit suicide rather than admit your fault (or hell, call an ambulance or something) lest that event dishonor your family was a good idea, for not to mention that was all Basil's idea, which makes me wonder WTF was wrong with that kid. Maybe it would explain why he randomly goes ballistic and stabs his friend and viceversa.

The most prominent fan theory thrown around is that Sunny and Basil were already schizophrenic like those Brit kids, but then both characters would be rightly seen as irredeemable characters. It would have been more compelling if Mari really did kill herself and both of them had some childish sense of guilt about it. Having this murder plot hatched by middle school kids is absurdly convoluted in comparison

I suspended my disbelief for it back when it was on Xbox game pass, but looking back, the "twist" tanks the entire story by being so unreasonable of a decision anyone would make in that situation that it makes you wonder why the fuck the 2 characters did that and reveals how shallow they are by there being no actual answer, with the most common interpretation of them being schizo before the story started having very little evidence to work off of, and it being hard to guess how the other characters react at the end because WHAT characters?

It's impossible to imagine that Basil was so yandere over sunny that at 12 years old he'd help him drag a dead girl twice their size to a tree and hang her body up without telling anyone shit, then proceed to try and murder-suicide him at the end, but neither him nor anyone else knock on his door for the last four years if that turned out to be all it took.

Sunny DOES stab Aubrey moments after meeting her again, after all.
The kid's clearly schizo, but not even that's elaborated on much in a game all about his mind because he's totally mute and just escorted around in most of the RW segments, and the headspace parts are half inside jokes, dev OCs, and mario stages, and half areas stolen from Yume Nikki.

If this game portrayed Sunny as a stone-cold psychopath as he clearly is given how straight faced he is until moments that "supposedly" get to him, this game goes from "heckkin' depresso shut-in asian child dealing with grief, guilt and muh mental healf" to "completely emotionally detached, soon-to-be future serial killer that has no empathy for other people and only sees them as a means to an end." Then this game's narrative would be a lot more interesting to see inside the head of someone "not normal" that views the world that he does, not this "I killed my sister, guess I'm a shutin now imagining cool fights 'n shit, also my friends are assholes that hardly visit me, I'm the REAL victim here!" schlock.

It would be a much more interesting game, but can't milk all the sympathy misunderstood teen otherwise.

Plus if the characters were intelligent they'd just smash the camera, burn the photos and say the sister slipped on the stairs. Even if the police found out they had an argument back then, they'll give the kid a leeway of not having the capacity to realize where he was.

However, it would make sense for Basil to be the psychopath and gaslit Sunny to be indebted to him. But once again it would be against the author's fetishes.
