Going with this actually I had this idea that perhaps there is a level above Awakening. Full succumbing to the form they allow users to take like for instance Luffy fully becomes Nika or at least his own version of Nika (Since we can assume Joyboy's version is different when we see it.)
Doubt it. This would lead OP in a DBZ situation where new transformations are always unlocked. Awakening is already the fruit taking over for Zoans.

It's why I think it is a dumb idea because also what exactly would be the next above awakening a fruit. Part of me was thinking that once we truly get to endgame and Imu finally has to fight that they would have a power that is "above" Devil Fruit.

I think Oda will take the "learn new techniques" route.

So does anyone think Imu's proportions look...funky.

Screenshot 2026-04-04 234136.png

Even if he is bending his knees in this image, they would have to be bent at a kind of weird ass angle, and even then, look at how thin his feet are compared to his waist.

Might be the pants.
I presume that he is bending his knees are holding his parachute pants (Kilt?) out a bit unless his legs are shorter than his arms but to hold his pants out that far he would have to have long legs, and he is bending his legs at a pretty steep angle from his ankle...

So I just wanted to pop in and mention (I'm not going to try and keep up the thread, I'll try to check back whenever the series ends to see most of the discussion.) that it seems my theory (probably what plenty of others thought too.) that Imu has THE Devil Fruit instead of A Devil Fruit seems to be correct. When Imu first appeared in the series my first thought was that they'd have the Water/Ocean Logia. After awhile I changed to something like Imu having a "God Fruit" instead of a Devil Fruit with the other Devil Fruits being knockoffs of the God Fruit. When it became obvious that Imu and their close underlings were HEAVILY Devil themed I changed to the assumption that Imu has the true and original Devil Fruit, with everything else being knockoffs (Like with Caesar Clown and Vegapunk trying to make Devil Fruits, history repeats.)
I've seen people saying that Imu is a mixed race Lunarian and Ancient Giant, but since Imu is almost definitely in "Devil" mode, it's unknown how much of Imu's appearance is from the Fruit. Right now I'm sticking with my theory that Imu is originally one of the Angel peoples, and basically became a Fallen Angel/Lucifer analogue from eating the Devil Fruit.
And Imu definitely seems to be male, but there's a lot of weird gendery stuff with him, and characters who seem to be foreshadowing him (Ivankov, Crocodile/Mr. 0, Yamato, etc...) so I want to wait and see what transpires.

Honestly I’m a bit disappointed, just another wano-esque horned/demon/ogre character with swirly hair, I like the creepy black shadow I know that He was just hidden but he was creepy with those almond eyes that go against oda’s usual design, I expected something really unconventional yet oda’s goofy style

Ooof lots of thoughts:

Assuming the struggling and coughing Imu is doing isn't from the teleportation or transformation and is some effect from leaving the MG that could be an explanation for the dice helmets the CDs wear. Some homage to their god.

His awakening seems to turn everything into devils just like the Nika awakening can turn the world to rubber, I'm guessing this is also how Domi Reversal works too

I don't think there's any secret meaning to calling his fruit the devil fruit, it's just avoiding calling it the devil-devil devil fruit since that's kind of a silly name

I also expect something to happen at MG while he's gone, maybe niggerbeard raiding it or at least infiltrating the castle. Will probably end up stealing that national treasure that Doflamingo mentioned.

I really like the lead up to Imu teleporting to Elbaf, showing the events of the last 30ish years of everything going off the rails from the decendant of Davy breaking into his house wrecking up the place and dropping a "I'll be back, nigga", Rodgers setting off the great pirate era, the Nika fruit being stolen away from at the last moment, him almost gaining control of Elbaf, WB both reigniting the search the hunt for the One Piece but also allowing the kid who ate the Nika fruit to escape, Nika awakening, finding out the giant responsible for him failing to take over Elbaf is the one who ate the other legendary DF he's been after for centuries, and finally losing his chance to capture Vivi. It's not some smug "I guess I have to do it myself" but more Imu losing his shit.

1. I like how the "early" one-piece chapters implied Logia DFs being overpowered but instead its Zoan DFs. Reason its heavily implied Imu has a Zoan type is because of the cloud's transformation which is awakened DF, his devil appearance and drums being played in the background to his intro similar to Luffy whom also is a Zoan user. I have no idea if this is a segway for Oda to make Blackbeard have the strongest Logia, Paramecia and Zoan DF(assuming he steals it from Imu) user. It is still a mystery as to how Blackbeard can wield 2 DFs or maybe possibly 3.

2. Imu is Lawful Evil, Blackbeard is chaotic evil

3. Imu seems to have some kind of love affair with Vivi's ancestor in the void century based on vivi look alike portrait this last chapter and apparently Vivi now. I have no idea if this is a weakness on Imu's part that can be exploited into someone threatening to kill Vivi like blackbeard for him to lower his guard.

4. Coughing up blood might be another weakness that can be exploited if he does another transformation.

5. Shirahoshi was viewed as a threat to Imu and apparently Caribou is going to lead blackbeard into getting 2 ancient weapons where a single one is claimed to destroy the world.

6. Shanks was Yonko level I believe when blackbeard fucked up his eye, I am assuming that was when Blackbeard didn't have 1 or 2 of the DFs when that happened so there might be some kind of additional hidden power blackbeard might have?

Again, cool character design and intro but not entirely convinced he is endgame villain.
Edit
I also expect something to happen at MG while he's gone, maybe niggerbeard raiding it or at least infiltrating the castle. Will probably end up stealing that national treasure that Doflamingo mentioned.
I am going to laugh if that is the 3rd ancient weapon while Caribou leads the rest of his crew to get the other 2. edit2: fuck you might be right, because I think devon doesn't only copy DF's but also memories and who else other then the gorosei like Saturn that she touched might have some kind of top secret info to know where that treasure is located

Shanks had established his crew but hadn't been to Marijoa to "reclaim his birthright" as we found out during the flashback. And no, Blackbeard had no Devil Fruit power when he sliced up Shanks face, per Ace's Story (he was a grunt in the Whitebeard Pirates at the time).

And that "additional hidden power" I suspect is just natural strength vis-à-vis his father, who we saw could fight to a stalemate an Ancient Giant king who was in his prime. That might account for his ability to withstand the drawbacks of the Dark-Dark Fruit; he experiences severe pain whenever he has to absorb damage ("severe" as in much higher than normal).

I'd like to know if the fight between Shanks and Teech was, among other things, the reason the latter stopped using a claw weapon, because he's been shown with it in the flashback to Whitebeard declaring Fishman Island his turf, and was shown with it on the cover of Volume 96.

i could be remembering wrong but i am pretty sure the gorosei are all confirmed devil fruit users so they should share the weakness of other fruit users.
When they transform it doesn't show anything like "Tori Tori no Mi: Itsumade" or "Buta buta no mi: Fengxi", which most other Devil Fruit users have on introduction. Their powers are literally just titled the name of the mythical being.

It is probably going to be a killer moment when animated, like seeing a bunch of things leading up to the confrontation with Kaido through Whole Cake and Wano through Luffy's Eyes before he hit the Red Roc

Which is one of the best sequences in the entire anime

so i was thinking about this and what if this is because most devil fruits come into existence via dreams and imagination and as such get silly sounding names but the devil fruit on the other hand was not created the same way and so it does not share the same naming pattern its simply a fruit that makes you a devil.

There might be something to this, Imu, Shamrock's Sword and the 5 Elders "Abilities" are being highlighted differently.

Screenshot 2026-04-05 151953.png

This was just before the Rock's flashback so he is maintaining the X X fruit (An X person) convetntion

but the Elders, Cerberus and Imu are all just a straight name

We start straight from the end of last episode, as per the source material people go for weapons at the arrival of Miss All Sunday but unlike the source material because the limb growth ability has already been spoiled we see the effect clearly.

Credit to wardrobe, they picked a hat for her that she could wear a straw hat on top of.

Sanji asking if she's going to be joining them when she offers an alternative log posse route for them is highly in character.

Aw, no weird turtle boat visible for All Sunday.

Crew + guest talking in the wake of of her departure. Usopp being the one sane man is called out by Vivi and there's some acceptable quality Zoro/Sanji sniping as Vivi makes it clear she is greatful, but wants to make her own way rather than put the crew at risk.

Little Garden arrival. CGI effects are CGI effects.

Zoro rocking some pink trousers as he and Sanji propose the dinosaur hunt. Sorry. game hunt since the dinos have not been seen yet.

Completely different split to the source material, with everyone exiting the boat. Means we likely will not get the scene where Nami and Usopp point out both are useless to long term survival, confirmed when he sneaks back to the relative safety of the boat.

Nami and Vivi have a brief conversation where the navigator tries to explain why she can trust Luffy. Spotting their coward has left Nami heads back to find him while asking Vivi to babysit Luffy, a task hindered by his approach to the flora being to try to eat it.

They try to do an impressive dinosaur reveal. Much like the newer movies they do not capture Jurassic Park but Luffy interrupting Vivi's awe at the sight to attempt to ride one is a chuckle.

Zoro and Sanji's bickering on their route is interrupted by a t-rex with lacklusture survival instincts.

Nami and Usopp meet back up at the ship, they're giving this Nami a bit more a lean into the adventuring desires hence her enthusiasm for exploring, both however are not thrilled as a giant arrives looking for booze. While the CGI looks wonky there's a good perspective play as he picks up a barrel of ale they indicate to him as it goes from fair sized barrel next to Nami to something casually opened with a thumb and disappeared, though honestly given how much bigger the giant is the scale is wrong. The implication is made that he is about to have them for a post pint snack.

Vivi screaming for Luffy to get down off the dinosaur is ineffectual and he hauls her up to eye the surrounding landscape. He asks what they ride in Alabasta and she confirms it's ducks, even naming Karoo.

Zoro and Sanji do the argument of who downed the pacifista ont he t-rex. Litterally. The second you see Sanji kick it in the head as Zoro slices its stomach you know what is coming. At this point I think most of the references are because we will never get to those points in the show.

Zoro picks up on movement further away, goes to investigate and is taken out by the yellow paint.

Luffy finds the food he smelt earlier and promptly chomps on it, despite it having a large owner.

Nami and Usopp are spending time with the other giant, confident they are on the menu. Usopp is volunteered to be a distraction and goes to tell one of his heroic tales. He goes with the story of the time he once brandished a five ton hammer in battle with a mole monster.

...I really hope we're not going to skip that fight.

As compensation they try to do one of the giant's laughs. I switch on the Japanese audio to relisten and it is so much better. I genuinely may purchase this thing on DVD one day just because of the Japanese dub.

Usopp manages to work into his stories how awful he would be as a dietary option. This becomes less of an issue when he offers food causing Nami to stop quietly sneaking away to confirm they're not a planned part of the giant's diet to his offence. I also wish this guy was voiced by Brian Blessed, especially the point where he realises how the confusion had come about. Brogy names himself and proper introductions are done.

Miss Valentine and Mr 5 have arrived on island, both eager to find their targets before they end up getting put onto Mr Zero's kill list. There's a mildly entertaining little exchange between them before they find someone's little candle cottage, to neither of their joy. Mr 3 appears, they've gone with exception pale makeup for him which is not terrible but I can't say I like. The rest of the costume is pretty good as is his exchange with them. The giants are a concern for him so he wants their aid with his efforts.

Luffy and is exchanging food with the other giant, I try dub again and this time I think Dorry's voice actor is better at the laugh than Brogy. Still prefer the original. In their chat Igaram's death comes up which gets it nicely onto Dorry's attitude about death and honour slightly. They burn the handkerchief Vivi was given by Igaram as a way of reminiscing about him, all in all it's not a bad scene but much too rushed. At least 10 minutes more were needed with this time of them with the giant to get to this point.

Back to Brogy, we get a sun god reference along with more Elbaph discussion. Once again the death and honour stuff comes up as a clear herald to the incoming fight with Usopp asking some questions the answer of which is interrupted by the volcano.

"Well, time to go fight to the death."

The confusion from both sides of the crew about the fight, especially Usopp getting it works quite well. What does not is Nami, with the adventurous role they want her to have, saying she does not want to see two giants duelling. The writers though are smart enough for Usopp to remind her of that, though she is distracted enough to also fall to paint based manipulation.

We get to see what's happening and it turns out Zoro's been obsessively cutting pomegranets. Sanji briefly stops by, triggers some laubghter over a remark and decide he cannot be bothered dealing with him. After heading off Miss Valentine drifts in from above to target Zoro, still immobolised.

Nami's green paint job has her indifferent to things, Brogy drops her and Usopp off as they meet with Luffy and Vivi. Luffy and Usopp are as happy to watch this fight as the giants at to fight.

Unlike the manga the booby trapped supply is not the giant's meat but the ale they exchange at the start of the duel.

Nika name dropped.

Giant duel kicks off with enthusiastic cheers from two of the onlookers. Usopp has a proper batch of enthusiasm watching this, eventually Vivi realises Nami lying flat out on the rock and cloud watching while this is happening is odd.

"My earwax fancy canon will activate as soon as it fully dissolves." Nice to have the source of the beer bomb confirmed. They also do twist it and have Brogy be the one affected not Dorry. Debatably this is better since Usopp met Brogy first and having it be him works better. Luffy runs off having spotted the booger bomb guy.

Valentine drops in from behind and crushes the ledge Usopp is watching from as she drags Nami the indifferent off for incarceration.

They try to do the revelation for Dorry from Usopp and again, maybe 30 seconds more of him looking at the mug and seeing the truth before accepting it could have done a lot.

Miss Goldenweek has been being a creepy shit int the background taking people and we finally get a proper look at her as she ambushes Luffy. Unfortunately they went with a very creepy looking actress that no sane human would not shoot on sight but she still adds Luffy to her list of affected targets.

Usopp and Vivi flee through the woods but she is caught by 5, while Sanji back on the boat wonders what has happened. Dorry goes to Brogy's cave to mourn him and swear to murder those who did him in. 3 skewers him with wax, explaining his powers as he does so as well as his intent to make art from the giant.

Vivi regains consciousness inside the candle coattage alongside Zoro and Nami both still affected by the paint.

It is. But the speed we went from Imu is a thing to Imu has got off his ass to do shit himself is swift by the standards of a manga series this long running.

Last arc we saw the elders intervening, this arc God's knights were dispatched and rather than sending waves of disposable minions Imu is already at the "fuck it, time to act" point. He'd better be either killing Loki (which I think he might just because Oda can then make a Marvel cinematic universe reference) or something serious is going to be the intervention here.

In a a non-spoiler remark this chapter has so many random funny asides. Be it the expressions on certain villains, Franky providing medical assistance or other stuff there's a load of fringe stuff happening.
I think it’s because we will see flashbacks soon or maybe in the next arc pertaining to Imu so making the reveal now may make sense. Also story wise, the giants is a critical military power so as anyone who sits on that throne and wishes to infinitely maintain it subjugating the giants would be his priority

Well, certainly called Imu being male, but that was obvious to most people, I feel. I dunno how to feel about his appearance. Funnily I was starting to really wonder if that ink-black form of his was just how he truly looked, and it seems it was half-right. He doesn't look like he belongs in One Piece...but in a certain why I feel like that's fitting given how otherwordly he is. All I can say is I'm really waiting for him to do literally fucking anything but more Domi Reversi.

Being the only person in the room not currently with emotion manipulating paint on on Vivi tries to snap them out of it after realising the paint is causing the issue. As soon as she wipes it clear the effect is gone and Vivi quickly plot dumps the way the power works. Zoro evades attempts to do the same for him and they realise that Usopp is possibly dead, Luffy is also incapacitated and they are here because Mr 3 has plans for them.

3 is outside setting up the signature art piece, Goldenweek rocks up and tries to do her best Wednesday Adams impression while giving her report. She's left Luffy at the beach and demands to keep him to the degree of threatening 3 with her paint brush which makes him opt to comply.

Usopp was spying on them and flees for the beech to help Luffy. The captain is having a paint fuelled breakdown about not taking the offered safe route from All Sunday. As Golden Week tra-la-la's her way closer Usopp flees to try to put together a plan which rapidly is "find someone who can actually fight."

Cut to Sanji who much like the source material is very out of the loop, though he does find the candle cottage. Given 4 and Valentine are not guarding this one people have already been moved on, something confirmed by the cut to 3's cake artwork. Nami is still feigning being under the paint effect.

"They're so focused on the work they forget ro be... Baroque." 3 complaining about the lack of artistic merit in his colleagues. He then ruins it with his pronunciation of "voila" which feels intentional.

By mocking 3's art by pointing out that Zoro is under the influence of the paint Nami gets 3 to remove that, which results in him narrowly avoiding a reflexive stabbing. However he does avoid it and Zoro finds he cannot stab his way through the wax.

Golden Week chats with Luffy, explaining how the colour palette works. She also has a collection of creepy dolls and infers she stuffed her parents into boxes until they choked to death while working through a few paint based emotions on Luffy. Annoyingly they have him fighting through the effect which somewhat undermines how effective it is.

Still unsure of what is going on Sanji searches through the building. Find Straw Hat dossiers he literally tosses Zoro's and is confused to find his is missing. Heading out he is interrupted by the snail ringing and picks up, with us getting 0's actor on. He covers as per the source material and 0 advises of the incoming Unluckies, even confirming that Friday is peckish since she has not eaten since the orphanage.

The Unluckies are CGI, they look terrible, I wanted puppets. But they try to machine gun Sanji which is fun.

Usopp still looking for help hears the sound of a still alive Brogy. Usopp points out that dying as a result of an unfair fight is bad and he needs some help. Angry giant unfortunately cannot walk off the sword in his guts but Brogy knows the Captain Usopp, Lord of Destruction, has got this. Just like Brogy has got a prep talk that's going to get him going. These two episodes do not redeem how badly done Usopp has been done by the series so far but they try hard.

Sanji breaks the vulture's neck with his thighs and puts Crocodile on hold while the otter gives him much more of a fight. It's pretty bad CGI but the heart is there. He also lets Crocodile know his agents are dead, giving the Prince code name as we get a nice aesthetic choice of both of them sparking up as the call ends.

Back to the candle display as Zoro realises he can cut his legs off. 3 stops those efforts and in response to Vivi offering her life mentions the brewing rebellion. While the Works team taunt her Zoro and Nami express support.

Back with team paint job Golden Week is making Luffy angry at himself so he can beat himself up. Like a proper edgelord her peak paint power is black, she paints it on and encourages him to drown himself while denying all of his dreams.

"Creepy Longstocking" is not a terrible description of this character but the number of people able to get the reference is limited. That Usopp defeats her by accidently launching her palette onto her face on his way to save is lacking but not awful. Unfortunately it seems this version of the character is loved by Reddit which is a shame.

Luffy and Usopp get on scene in time to confirm the crew have been waxed up. At which point Luffy chases 3 off into the shrubbery, leaving Usopp alone to fight the other Baroque Works members.

Now we know how this is going to go. Luffy's instinct is right, these episodes are all about Usopp. But this comes off as pretty poor.

Usopp challenges them to a duel with Valentine first up. Amusing scene especially with her being offended about being described as not sweet. Usopp uses her attacks to cracks in the wax, not as cool as the manga but still quite good. As per the source the freed crew head out to dole out the spankings though Zoro's feet are still stuck.

Luffy and 3's fight is not candle champion but the dummies in the woods instead.

Usopp saves Zoro from the breeze breath bullets and we get the spicy tobasco shot down 5's throat too.

The fights here are okay but only that. Valentine breaks Nami's staff no doubt as a herald for the clima tact, Flame Star is an afterthought. 3 at least fights Luffy a bit more interestingly with candle locks, limb stabbing and luring him to a waxed up Dorry as a distraction. Again, 10+ seconds more with the finishing move was all that would have been needed to improve 3's eventual takedown.

The crew unify and we get confirmation the giants are alive, their existence a surprise to Sanji who had dodged them so far. As part of sending the Hats off they confirm their duel is done and that Usopp's legend is going to be a tale they tell.

The crew depart with the standard advice about sailing on no matter what as Pray to the Sun starts playing. Vivi continues to convince Luffy to part ways with her given the danger but he ignores as ever.

Brogy and Dorry discuss what lies ahead as the crew soil themselves before the giant goldfish. Usopp encourages people to press on and a deeply unsatisfying strike feels the creature. As the crew leave and the giants toss aside their weapons they remember the source of their fight and resume scrapping. Nami starts wobbling as the ship sails on in standard foreshadowing.

As the call from Zero comes in 3 chokes Valentine to death on wax to stop her talking.

In case it was unclear the Straw Hats toast the hero of Little Garden as they leave. Sani, feeling left out, attempts to brag ab out dispatching the Unluckies without describing them. The dinosaur death argument starts again. After some chatter with Vivi Nami heads for bed and passes out on deck.

I still can't hate the show. It's not as good as anime or manga but if every live action adaptation tried this hard we would be very fortunate.

i just hope we eventually see imus base form. because something tells me he is an orochi like character in that his normal form is some small pathetic looking guy but when he transforms he becomes more and more of a monster.
