One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

Legit, Oda got super lucky One Piece became big enough to be a profitable IP rivaling the big leagues. The man is living the life he wanted and more; his health is getting shot from the sounds of it which is why he has to take scheduled breaks, but it probably doesn't bother him as much since his family for sure is taken care of and there's plans for OP should anything happen to him. Starving artist, he is not.
What is even more nuts to me is that it is a straight shot story much to its detriment but your mileage may vary. There isn't a "Part 2" to the story as it's one long narrative in a single package. You look at things like Naruto even Dragonball and their narrative is broken into sections which do make it easier for people to understand where the timeskip and events happen.

It makes One Piece unique and i pray that he can finish it because that's the gamble you take when making a long narrative like this.

Looking back, I'm not too sure how the timeskip could have handed itself well to a Shippuden style show for One Piece.

I think because it flows so well with the narrative since we see what every individual SH is doing while Luffy is off trying to save Ace in that time. There would be a lot to go through if you split it.
And all those things were settled when the timeskip ended. I have to assume that we didn’t get a Shippiden branding because Oda said “fuck that”.
It's kind of fun to think about that this is the reason why One Piece is so long. It's less digestible than the series' that do break themselves into parts as i mentioned before but to its advantage you really only get pre and post timeskip to talk about. Despite being longer it's more condensed since everything you need is right there and don't need to cycle through a Z, GT, Super, Shippuden, etc to figure out where everything is if that makes sense.

The whole idea of the movies (non-canon) is that it implies that there are other smaller adventures that the Straw Hats get into (maybe not the movies specifically), so it's not immediate one-two-three action. The manga makes it seem like Nico Robin snuck aboard after Crocodile got his ass kicked, formally introduces herself to the crew and then, bam, ship starts falling from above which introduces us to the Jaya/Skypiea arc.

A timeskip is needed for longer narratives, I still think MHA would've benefitted greatly from a timeskip, allowing Deku and other main characters to mature and get more powerful, while cycling out Class 1-A's D-listers.

Other timeskips….end up with Attack on Titan.

Wasn’t that what Naruto and DBZ and Bleach filler used to do?

As for One Piece and movies, the most I’ve seen of integration was a hope that Uta comes back into the manga in the future (admittedly, most of that was Luffy/Uta shippers).

It spaces it out a little bit, like with the Alabasta-to-Jaya filler a mixed bag of stuff. Rainbow Mist was kind of forgettable even if the looping timeline concept was kind of interesting. Plus I enjoyed the episode where Sanji teaches a kid how to make curry and thinking about it reminds me that I need to try Japanese-style curry again.

>liking modern South Africa
He lied through his fucking teeth. Modern South Africa is like seeing a demented man be pummeled by a 60 IQ retarded who used the demented man’s war medals as a weapon.

Japanese Curry is not bad. It’s just a stew, but honestly adding red miso is very good. I usually rehydrate mushrooms in the broth I’ll use for it. The chocolate powder in it is bad, the apple grating is okay, and I prefer chicken to beef curry.

Beef is too rich for me.

I love beef curry and actually tried it on my trip to Japan in 2007 because of that filler episode.

Curry is one of those dishes where it’s really hard to fuck up. It’s like pasta agilo e olio, something you teach a child when they start cooking because it’s advanced enough for them to feel confident. Even the roux blocks are pretty good.

Thai curry is not hard to make either. The main thing is finding your local Asian grocery to get proper green/ red/ yellow paste or bring assed to actually fucking make it from scratch.

Indian Curry depends because it’s straight up sloppa. It’s good, but it feels like what happens when I fuck up when slow cooking Mexican and drown out the flavor with rice and tortilla.

How many times have you been to Japan? A buddy of mine wants to go to Hokkaido, Vladivostok, and then South Korea.
