Mingo was a king, they would actually HAVE to let him walk around and talk to guests, I think Shanks would get to show up because he is a Yonko and the World Government (Especially Pre-Timeskip) does not like to start fights with the Yonko in general. Remember Ace's execution is a very special case because Ace is Gol's and is such kind of the Automatic Heir to the Pirate King Title.

As for Why we get Shank's twin? Now we have someone for Shanks to face off against in the Final War. It's kind of a short cut but its not a bad one given that we need SOMETHING to keep Shanks from teaming up with Luffy and having two Yonko going around causing Havok.

Shamrock said Shanks had returned for a time, then decided he was better as a pirate. That was probably it.

Sure we have the Shanks vs Shamrock fight (which should give us our backstory for Shanks), but the big play has always been Shanks vs Luffy, and everything builds toward that. Maybe that comes down to when the final war actually happens.
 
I haven't really seen this commented on but Shanks being a confirmed full-blooded (former) Celestial Dragon (and descended from the top-tier, no less) adds a new depth to his feud with Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teech)

With Shanks having a mark Imu’s plan might have legit been ‘i can keep an eye on the kid who gets the Fruit through Shanks if it isn’t Shanks.’ Explains the calm at large.

Time dilation might straight up be a thing with what Gabon is saying. No wonder Imu is pissed. His Knights were gone way too long.

Mihawk may very well have been talking literally when he said Shanks was half a man. Zoro may very well have meant it when he said Mihawk was not human.

Shanks v Mihawk might straight up have been ‘who gets to be Imu’s body’

i have to wonder if harald chilling out is because of age or because of something he saw. something happened that turned the giants from a race of warriors to peaceful chill guys. so either harald has always been awful but pretending to be chill so mother caramel could run her orphanage without issues or dude was genuinely afraid of something and knew if the giants kept fighting they would be destroyed by imu.

i think shanks gets special treatment because of who his father is. everyones afraid to do anything to him and imu dont care because he is not doing anything that would expose him to the world. so as long as shanks is chill everyone else remains chill too. i also think its a similar case to sanjis family where they really want him to embrace their way of thinking but he refuses. also mingo would be allowed to walk around because he is a king but otherwise yeah since him and his family gave up being celestial dragons i dont think he would be welcomed if he was just a dude.

huh thats actually really interesting. especially since sugars supposed to be way older than she looks IIRC. it would be really funny if imu was actually just sugar the whole time but sugar had no idea she was imu till after usopp scared her. like how cavendish is also hakuba or whatever his name is.

I’m just hoping that this isn’t setting up some thing where it’s a case of “Shanks was evil the whole time, and then he wasn’t.”

It was confirmed pre time skip, in Sabaody when he knocked out some no names.


For Shanks my assumption is at some point he went back to Mary Geoise either to find his blood family and was eventually so repulsed by the degenerate behavior of the CD's he left or he went there to spy on them for some reason related to the One Piece. Bare minimum Shanks went to the holy land and now he knows something others don't and that will explain some of his behavior.

Seriously, Toei? It was bad enough that you did a Kuma and Bonney recap episode just before their actual backstory, but now you're interrupting that backstory with another recap episode?

i pray they are not going the naruto route because i remember this same thing happening towards the end of naruto where everyone was excited for the final battle so they just kept dragging it out with recap and side stories.

though if they are just getting it out of the way now before the real shit happens when kuma shows up it wont be that bad. it should be happening in like two or three episodes if i had to guess.

I wonder if One Piece is going to end up like Berserk where only reading the manga provides the intended emotions the story is supposed to drive you towards.

They should have kept that for after the battle but before the Epilogue.

Well, Berserk has had other problems too. It is unfair to blame everything on that.
