Oda's art was cooking this chapter. Its amazing what he can do when he's not trying to jam 30 fucking panels into a page.

That is either some serious self-fulfilling prophecy or something weird happened with Harald. Still, I did not expect that about Loki's eyes. Damn, Oda still has it with the designs. Probably one of the best creepy eyes designs in manga. The rough outlines really sell the "out of of this world and yet trying to bleed into it" vibes.

Well called the woman's love thing.

I was guessing there was something up with Loki's eyes but wasn't expecting Loki's eyes to be that, if you showed me that and asked me to guess what anime it's from I would not guess One Piece. It has a massive horror vibe to it. Fucking love it.

so seeing loki as a baby and looking back at other ancient giants like oars it really seems like there was a point in which the ancient giants were just mindless monsters with zero humanity in them. and it makes me wonder if imu/the world governments goal in stealing giant children all the time was to try and obtain pure blood giants that would allow for the creation of an army of loki/oars type giants almost like pacifistas but not.

That's what I'm guessing and then years of race mixing with human gave us the current crop of human giants. This is why the Hajrudin looks pretty normal but Loki the child of two pure bloods is bigger, has horns, and monster eyes.

I don't know if the WG's plan is some breeding program to remove the human from them or not but I'm sure they do want to basically pull a Kuma and have giant pacifistas.

We don't know what Oars was like when he was alive, mind you; Chopper thinks he might've been pretty stupid, though Luffy's shadow in his animated corpse honestly didn't help. And we only have Hogback's words to go off of that the ancient giants were a fearsome evil race, so it'd actually be nice if we're able to get some clarification soon on that. Oda likes to feature and play with "nature vs. nurture" so it's possible there may be a bit of both at work here since aggression is genetic.

They're fine with making super weapons so i would imagine that the next best thing would be a "genetically perfect" weapon in the form of a Giant they can control like a Pacifista

it could be one of those cases of everyone else back then being afraid of the ancient giants because they all look like demons only for one person (maybe the nika or joyboy) of the time to be the first to offer their hand in friendship only to find out they are all actually pretty chill and just look scary which resulted in more humans over time befriending giants and having kids with them resulting in less scary looking giants. it would also explain why the giants admire the sun god so much. though a story explaining the full history of the giants would be nice either way.

To be fair, from what we know of Oars Jr, making clothes for Ancient Giants is very hard. They have to be very strong and be able to deal with their horns. Chances are, Oars knew that he needed clothes but there was no one to make them.

given how oars died its also possible he was banished like loki and simply froze to death as a result.

So what's the right way to watch One Piece?

I don't know, just don't skip Skypiea.
For the exaggerated faces and seeing people in the one piece world realize how massively silly the crew is when you meet them.
Skypiea is very very okay. It's lore is talked up to great praises but how it's presented and the characters with it, felt it could have been written more interesting.
