One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

Pure kino chapter. Rocks knew perfectly where to go, he KNOWS things, and seeing all Teach has achieved, he's definitely following dad's footsteps.
If that’s the case, I have to wonder how Roger became the man of prophecy instead of Rocks, assuming that Luffy and Blackbeard will have a similar dynamic (and it looks like that’s the case).

I struggle to do it not as "vaha ha ha." Looking forwards to hearing it done correctly.
I'm going with voe-haw ha ha in my head for now.
I wonder if instead of Blackbeard having multiple personalities he just has his dad's soul or will. Rocks did promise he'll be back.

That would be interesting especially since I don't think it's ever been specified that Xebecs died, it would also be a good twist on the "passing of the torch" but a more toxic version of it. The precious generation living through the current to achieve their own goals.

With Rocks telling Imu “I’ll be back”, I wonder if that’s gonna lead to the “Blackbeard will face Imu” theories we hear all the time. Or if that’s just how Imu became hyper focused on the likes of Monkey “D.” Luffy and Marshall “D.” Teach, if Imu wasn’t already. Another thing Oda just added to the endgame pile.
it could just be that rocks told blackbeard everything and since rocks himself cant return
(most likely because imu got him) blackbeard can in his place. i mean he has already managed to have one of his crewmates just pop into the room with the 5 elders. many of the things he does seem to be following a plan while also sending a message. plus if we go with the devil fruits having the souls of their past users thing then blackbeard could have rocks fruit. like how luffy has joyboys. it seems to me everything is being set up for a rematch of some grand battle. the fact that harold rejected the offer to be part of rocks crew also makes me think luffy is gonna end up getting loki to join his

The man of prophecy can't be the guy who knows all the steps and goes through the motions of following them because he wants whatever power "being him" will confer, it's gonna be the guy who stumbles ass-backwards into fulfilling every condition while freely pursuing some other bullshit of his own, without ever knowing there was a prophecy. Knowing too much about the destination can ruin the whole journey.
Like hypothetically if we assume a major prison break is on the checklist, we could also fairly assume Blackbeard went to Impel Down because he knew about that part. He formulated his plan well in advance and only broke out those who were on his recruitment list and agreed to throw in, it was a calculated play. Meanwhile Luffy jumped in headfirst on no notice and with no plan beyond "save Ace", and managed to take like half the prison out with him. Would be very surprised if Rocks and Roger didn't have a similar thing going on.

Rocks has been more interesting in one chapter than Roger has in the entire manga. I blame Oden.
What makes you say that? The only thing that changed with Roger was that his last voyage and the treasure he found was going to turn out to be some massive thing to change the world instead of something to be found by some kid wearing a hat. You really should be blaming Whitebeard.

What? I swear he went out when Garp and Roger 2v1'd him at God Valley.

It would also make a lot of sense since Imu and Rocks seem very connected and Imu is all about carrying on their own will longer after they likely should have

So God Valley got Vanished right? What if Rocks isnt dead and is imprisoned there?
this is a huge stretch but what if places that got vanished like god valley are not actually vanished but instead transported to the shadow realm for lack of a better word. this place however happens to be able to be visited by blackbeard because of the yami yami no mi. which is why he wanted the fruit to begin with. along with its ability to nullify other devil fruit powers.

That’s not how Blackbeard has been shown to work. He has a plan and he stumbles ass backwards into a better result every time. The same as. Luffy’s crew evet yu
I thought it was stated he was defeated and the Rocks pirates split and went their own ways. Never specially stating he died, but I could be wrong.
it is said Rocks were defeated and they lost Rocks, causing the crew split. And since none of the Yonko talk about it and Kaido has gripes about Pirates abandoning you and a desire to die right…whatever made them lose Rocks…probably not something dignified.

But it’s Oda, that’s likely getting retconned.

Given the World Governments MO the story we know could only be half of it.

Hell Sengoku's version didnt include the whole "'Mass Slaughter of slaves for fun"

Might be, but Rocks is surprisingly cool given he is the former boss of Kaido and Mom so anything is possible

Did he at the very least defend his title after getting it than just coasting by on reputation (which is why I think Twitter always shits on Mihawk)?
The champion isn't obliged to give bums a shot at the title.

When Mihawk is riding around on his sailboat, people get real quiet about being The World's Strongest Swordsman.
"Swordsman" may be a stretch since it sounded more that it hit like a brick wall than cutting things.
Don't hate on Rocks for not only having slashing damage, but blunt damage and AOE.

Some characters are just built different.
