I saw this in my recommendations, knew without clicking the video what it was gonna be and blocked the channel from recommended. With this it's always "Any political theme in art is always supporting my real life current politics!!!". I feel it's counterproductive to be black, put yourself in the thumbnail and re-enforce stereotypes that your opinion is stupid and pre-fab.
People do this with everything including stuff like Metal Gear. They just cannot separate themselves to get engrossed in the fiction. They see the slightest hint of similarity and all pretenses that hte fiction made for itself gets washed away because "it's just like real life!! frfr"

I say it all the time but as a creator it has to be annoying that instantly any artistic integrity flies right over these people's heads and they're incredibly loud which is the worst thing.
I love how people defend this because Vivi is drawn with sliiightly darker skin in the colored manga than in the anime. But they'll also freak out if you point out Nico Robin was made darker in the anime and was always paler in the manga.
It's the same argument with Nojiko but it's like i thought the point of this adaptation is to get the characters as close to their real world race as possible. If Alabasta is based on the Middle East then this actress sort of stands out if everyone else is also accurately portrayed right?

I don't mind too much they just made her fully black, but fuck me they found like, the ugliest black actress they could for her.

I gotta say, looking at Smoker.

Callum Kerr could make a lore accurate looking Vergil from Devil May Cry.

rael talk that might be the one point for who they got to play Vivi. She ain't ugly persay and Vivi is also a gorgeous woman but the casting choice is still stupid.

Everyone is on point until they got to Vivi lol

Most people are bothered by the Vivi casting.
I'm bothered that they've got Nami doing fucking wire fu. She's going to be kept as combat capable as the idiot three isn't she?

Yeah, like she's not meant to be very capable yet. Her taking on Miss Doublefinger was a big moment for her. But now that she's fighting capable the entire time, it means nothing.

From what I remember, they may have made her more capable than she was at this point in canon. IIRC, it took until she got the Clima Tact in Alabasta before she was capable of holding her own.

Out of the confirmed Holy Knights with names (Garling Figarland, Shamrock Figarland, Gunko Manmeyer, Sommers Shepard, and Killingham Rimoshifu), whom are your personal favorites, if you have any? So far, I think I like all of them, but probably Killingham the least.

She was always capable of holding her own as long as she was fighting someone who was a mook or something. It was in the GL that she started realizing it was not enough and needed improvements.

Nami was always capable but her ability was more dropping Buggy crew members than launching herself 10 feet up into the air to dodge an attack. She was impressive human levels rather than the "fuck physics and biology" that many named characters operated at.

This was of course balanced out by her being a capable individual in many other areas unlike Luffy (rocks, dumb as, bag of), Zorro (navigation ability -infinity) or Sanji (tits = failure to function).

The crew functioned as a crew, each had a clear niche and solved their problems using their skills. You don't expect Usopp to drop kick someone unconscious the same way Sanji is not expected to be able to snipe.

Fair enough. I just remember that the Clima Tact was a big deal, and Usopp made it.

Nojiko’s casting was a “whatever” to me until the scene where she spits at Nani’s feet and it’s the most viscerally disgusting thing in a way that could not have occurred if her actress was literally any other race, retroactively changing my opinion to “Nojiko should have been literally any other race.”

It was, Nami and Usopp both won their Alabaster fights in an awesome if ugly manner and that impact kind of fades when one of them is already pulling off moves that belong in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
I seriously doubt that those martial arts moves would win against BWs elite so I find no difference.

I thought the reason for that was because of the realization that Nami worked for Arlong (IIRC, some dynamics about that were changed).

No it’s just the way she spits is so super fucking gross on a way unique to black people.

Also, yes, they fucked with that part because Cocoyashi village knew the whole time Nami joined Arlong for their sake whereas Netflix changed it to a reveal after the other Straw Hats show up.

I feel like that has to be from condensing so much in so few episodes. How many chapters in the manga did it take for Garp to learn of Luffy’s pirate activities, let alone that Garp and Luffy were related?
