brook keeps everyone in high spirits when shit gets boring. franky maintains the ship. chopper keeps the crew in good health.
The comic literally never shows this stuff anymore. Maybe you get Chopper doctoring the crew in the background every two years after an arc ends (he was attempting to with Loki 6 months/3 minutes ago in case you've forgotten) but that might as well be background gags. We all know that if Chopper weren't there Zoro's wounds would just heal offscreen. But you never see Brook throwing a little concert for the crew or Franky fixing stuff (or Nami navigating, etc.) And besides, all three of them are supposed to be capable fighters or, in Brook's case, an amazing scout/spy. But you practically never see it or if you do its a side fight that isn't cool or plot relevant. If Sanji can cook and fight why can't any of the Grand Line era characters?

I wholely agree with that guy that there is no need for even more core strawhats.

Tell that to folks who only focus on the fighting.
if you do just focus on the fighting the strawhats have way more capable people compared to other crews out there. i mean blackbeard and kuzan are seemingly the only actual threats on his crew everybody else just sorta stands around.

laws and kids crews were just as bad since it was just them a long with bepo and killer everyone else is useless. hell even with shanks crew you never see anybody do anything other than shanks and people just assume beckman is a threat.

people need to realize oda can only write so much if he wants to actually be able to finish the story. adding in things for every single person would take crazy amounts of time that i dont think he has. that being said the strawhats are still eons above what they were before the time skip. nami and usopp can at least kinda do something now and chopper as well if need be.

should they all get big upgrades before the big final thing? yes but we are just going to need to wait to see if/when that happens. ive heard people say we could get another time skip after the current events of elbaf are over but im not sure how that would work.

Because healing, barring some exceptions, is for after the danger passes and the patient can rest. Chopper is a doctor, not a cleric that can cast a healing spell and put people back to full health.

Ignoring how he healed Zoro with the Mink Drug to fight King or his development of cures in Zou.

No, his wounds would open up during next fight like it nearly happened in Arlong Park. Or how Zoro could not fight after Thriller Bark. Wounds stick around in One Piece unless they see a doctor and take time to heal afterwards.

But you never see Brook throwing a little concert for the crew
Brook mainly plays after victories. Were you expecting him to interrupt scenes for a solo?

Franky fixing stuff
No one wants to see maintenance be performed. It is boring and it can be assumed it occurred. Why waste precious pages on what the audience does not want to see and knows takes place anyway?

or Robin navigating, etc.)
You mean Nami. We do not see her navigating because she makes sure everything goes smoothly. Good navigating is when nothing interesting happens. You avoid the storms and the like.

Yes, we are not shown things that are a waste of time. Should Brook waste our time doing things that will not help when he could do the things that do? He can spy when it advances the plot. Every chapter has about 20 pages and you want to waste them on things that do not move the story forward? On pointless scenes where nothing happens?

They can fight. As for cooking, Sanji cooks better than anyone else. His cooking has been established as improving the power and health of those who eat it. He also keeps a tab on how much food they have so as to not waste it and go hungry in the middle of the ocean. A good cook is irreplaceable to such a ship.

Jesus Christ dude, pay attention to the story. You complain about the stupidest things.

the deprivation of showing the crew doing their jobs does not mean they do not hold their position as the member of the crew that does their thing.
The point of the youtube video was because those things aren't shown anymore you never see the characters or, worse, they stand around commenting while not contributing anything of value to their scenes.

Most fans actually miss the "crew dicking around on the ship" segments. It really is a shame that despite modern arcs have over 100 chapters each, Oda never spends that time on the characters just interacting with one another.

You can have the crew dick around and still push the plot forward. Example: The crew hangs out with the Minks. Brook sings, we learn more about the world and what is to come but they also have fun. Or how after Wano where Jinbe was introduced the dynamics of the crew. A bit of fun as a reward for winning against the bad guys happens after every arc. You cannot have it in the middle of an arc without interrupting the plot.

If you can have a 40 chapter flashback interrupt the plot, why not something that's actually important to storytelling like character development?
The flashback is a part of the story. It gives context and valuable information. We saw what caused the immortality of the new opponents as well as get context for the future. That is important as it serves the plot.

i do miss the crew screwing around, but they're on a pretty straight path to the end from here. it's basically been one after another since zou.

the flashback serves the purposes of explaining who harald really was, why elbaph is in the state its in, why the god knights are coming to steal the children rather than strike a deal with sword-in-head, why loki is the way he is, how the world sees the giants, the most we'll ever know about rocks, the giant battle that killed rocks and why it happened, who shanks really is, what the deal with his faggot brother is, why and how imu could control gunko, etc. etc. etc. it is a bit clumsy to insert a giant flashback into an arc but there's really no place else it could have gone, and it really did need to happen. so fuck it, just do it all in one big shot.

I understand the expositional value of the flashbacks, I'm just sick of exposition in One Piece. You have one of the biggest events in the lore, and we basically got a terrible, abridged version of it.
