Opening scene is Zoro doing a brief training montage complete with visualising Mihawk present just to remind himself of how much of a spanking he got. For an added scene not terrible, a rare use pf the word "chasmic".
Usopp interrupts the montage to celebrate his fish catch and we cut to Sanji preparing that while Mr 9 bitches from the captive corner.
Ah, the bikini scene mentioned.
Decent bit of verbal sparring between Zoro and Sanji, Nami back in for layers because the weather's switched to a blizzard (no, we're not getting early Drum Island). Usopp heads out to make a snowman while Sanji follows planning to make sorbet leaving Zoro to be shit-talked by 9.
Luffy for some reason has been left unsupervised to interrogate Vivi who has correctly identified she is the captive of lunatics. The ludicrously loose rope on her legs is silly though given Luffy let her loose after a few minutes of chat it's kind of justified.
The crew are distracted by Vivi pointing out Whiskey Peak and the assassins flee overboard apparently into the water based off the splash. The crew is fairly unphased with Usop clearly optimistic they're going to drown.
Episode card is a skull with Igaram's wig on, a cactus as the I and I finally realised the E looks odd because it's a stylised anchor.
They're leaning more heavily into the cowboy aesthetic of cactus island which I think works, they also do the ludicrously enthusiastic welcome.
Igaram's a short arse. Sorry, I shouldn't mock midgets and expecting anime realistic heights ain't going to happen but you could have found someone tall.
Fairly standard fare as per the anime, the town is excessively welcome, I'd say perhaps not to an implausible degree, and the crew eat it up. That Luffy's explanation of their time with Laboon sounds less plausible than Usopp's version of his events is a nice touch.
A sodden Mr 9 and Miss Wednesday, confirming they did swim ashore, dry out in the streets of the town.
Least Luffy line, "you mean that was just the appetizer?"
Nami doing shots with the nun, Usopp playing darts exceptionally well, Sanji showing off by taking on bartending duties and Zoro getting ignored by that bartender and just claiming his own drinks are all nice little scenes that seem pretty in character.
Nami is sent the way of the peaks by the nun's slurrings while Sanji kidnaps Usopp to carry out wingman duties. Luffy is raiding a cake shop and Igaram joins him from a chat. Luffy gives a truncated version of the events that brought him here before being sent on a bad acid trip by Miss Wednesday and Mr 8.
A gravedigger spills the beans to Nami and she heads back to the others only to find Zoro's aware and is about to begin working his way through the mob. Inside the main bar Mr 9 turns up to monologue and egg the mob on to fight.
I am reasonably certain this will be the best fight of this season. Unsurprisingly the ludicrous levels are slightly less than that of the anime but it's pretty good and they keep the nun gas attack in, though no child. As compensation her takedown might be the silliest of the scene.
Mihawk hallucination turns up again, I'm hesitant if this comes in too much though I am giving it a pass this episode at least since it's a better storytelling tool in this medium than Zoro monologuing to himself.
Dragging someone's face across a bar top full of broken glass seems hilariously harsh.
Luffy regains consciousness as Igaram and Vivi are plotting to steal the Merry for their escape vessel, they exit towards the docks with him in pursuit.
Zoro's fight scene continues and it would appear Miss Monday has been replaced by the cake maker in town. He also stops by where Sanji and Usopp are tied up to dispatch their captors and demonstrate when it comes to violence the nun was not a one-off display of equality. As he continues to wrap up people 9 heads outside.
Luffy brings the fleeing pair to a halt as Nami catches up with them too. It looks like Vivi's working her way up to explain the truth to them Mr 5 and Miss Valentine arrives.
That's right nerds, no Zoro and Luffy fight! (for the best I'd say, live action would not translate it well)
Booger bombs remain a thing including Nose Fancy Cannon. The group retreat from that pair and we cut to 9 talking up what look to be the next 5 victims of Zoro's killing spree. What follows is brief but it turns out I was wrong, Miss Monday is in this. It's the other nun (yes, I remember the original now but it's been a while).
She's the most sturdy fight so far, her and 9 combined actually get to land some hits on Zoro.
As 5 and Valentine hunt down the hiding lot they spill the beans on Vivi's royal status, followed by an explosion that attracts Zoro's attention and get him to wrap up the pair he is dealing with, alas not quite so awesomely as the source material but still pretty well. Then finishing off the grave digger Nami met earlier with what is probably the most definitely a death so far.
Igaram's taken some stray shrapnel during the last explosion so asks Nami and Luffy to take Vivi, clarifying their identities as he does so. Nami naturally negotiates the price for it and Zoro joins the group. I realise while Igaram is offering to sacrifice himself that Luffy and Zoro aren't going to backhand 5 and Valentine this episode which is a shame, it does make them seem more threatening for later but it's a shame.
The hair guns stay in.
Looks like they might kill Igaram properly but I doubt it. Also Mr 9 commits to protecting Vivi as Valentine and 5 ask him to help hunt her down, sticking to his guns in the face of death (not confirmed but seems fairly likely).
Crew have a bit of post get away banter, Vivi gives them the plot dump of who she is, Baroque Works sabotaging the kingdom etc. Robin puts in her appearance on board the Merry which is where the episode ends.
