Wow, that’s good amount of money. Maybe his “woe-is-me” attitude is just his insecurity talking, most people would be over the moon to be raking in that much money just to work on their own stuff. Maybe DD needs a nonliteral slap in the face to see just how many people love and support him.

I would argue that he's had quite a few chances to realize that, especially after the game grumps fans telling his parents his relationship, and it's just getting a bit silly at this point to still complain about people not liking you
I chalk it up more to him being more like Wingsofredemption and that better not be the reason for why he keeps wanting to redo his games

There's a saying that goes something like "you feel one knife to the front more than a thousand pats on the back" which seems to describe Ding Dong well. Far more people love him than hate him but the small amount of negativity that comes his way just sticks out super hard to him.

I think perceptions around them have slowly gotten more negative but mostly because they're constantly whiny little faggots about something that barely happens. Those comics Julian drew were cringe to the max and no amount of 'woe is me I'm depreeeesed' is going to make me think otherwise.

In all honesty, I don't blame the guy. Some people were not built for the spotlight and can't handle being upfront like that. Guy likes games, making games, and talking about games, it's what he's passionate about. And bring in a tough situation working out in that area and from what I understand, living by the skin with that Patreon money, and compounded with Julian's medical problems, it's hit to their budget and the genuine concern he has for him, I don't really expect him to be in the best of moods. I don't think it's an excuse to believe the world's against you but it's difficult not to think that when it seems so much like it is. DD's also got it in his head that if he announces any bad news, that Patreon money is going to tank like he said it did the last time this happened. Apparently, it was a really scary situation. Being in the spotlight for so long and getting the treatment you've had, especially the worst examples of it, makes you ignore the best and focus on the worst, it's just how we as people operate.
Makes you wonder if DD is on to something lmao. I think you just proved a bit of his point, don't you?
And clarification, no it does not prove his point completely, and like I said, there's no excuse to think it that the world's against you, people like you ain't the world, but you can't deny he's got valid concerns for his job and personal life and that stress is getting to him.

Trying to look into how they leavened up to the average income for their area, I realize I don't know whether they're in Arizona or Toronto. For some reason, I remember them being in Toronto.
It could be an acknowledged pathological paranoia formed through various broaches of trust that have occurred in his history which prompts the metaphorical alcoholic returning to his figurative bottle, but that'd be a lot of armchairing. Just as well, it might be difficult to fully realize how fortunate the pair are to be making a fairly high salary (if that patreon is accurate, and adding on a few crumbs for stream donations) for doing what they're doing; glances at both of those locations' average household incomes put them right around that median, which is lightyears above what most independent artists manage to eke out, hence the starving artist trope. I say hard to notice because the internet tends to bring the successful creative types up to the forefront - the ones that make extreme bank and churn out healthy, steady cash that breeds all sorts of self-doubt.
If they're spending lots of time working on their own project, and are somewhat antisocial by nature besides, forming connections with the local art scene to get that perspective might not happen. And the ability to stop and be thankful for your current situation, even if it may be a transient thing, can at the very least keep one from falling into negative mindsets and bad habits. Of course, the internet isn't really designed to give us repose and perspective so much as to make us anxious, envious, and lecherous, so the recommendation is as-usual to consume less internet. He seems to have somewhat manic phases, where he's good and steady for a while and then falls into a depressive spiral, so it might be good to go full Bob Chandler during the downward spins. Julian's got to have an axe around somewhere, I'm sure.

This will make a fine edition to my characters running really fast towards the camera collection.

My sonic autism was activated when Cory didn't bring up the Sonic OVA when Chris was asking why there hasn't been a show/movie or comic that captures the feel of the Genesis games and Sonic CD. That OVA did a greatjob at capturing the feel of those games and deserves more appreciation.
