Saw this as a good response to Matt's response.
I heard that DD is going to stop streaming as of 2023 and moving away from the internet as a whole. Does this mean he's quitting game development too because with everything that was said in the stream, it sounds like he's blacklisted from the industry.

He said he was gonna continue focusing on bippy, so he isn't quitting game developing. It's just going to be harder for him to find a publisher what with the incident and the blacklisting. Excluding the doxing and putting part, I don't get why they went as far as to do something so serious like blacklist him from the gaming youtuber community. It's pretty fucked up. You took this man's pay and then pretty much said all these fucked up things about him, did you really need to go as far as help prevent the man from succeeding outside of this whole thing?
That's one main thing that rubs me the wrong way (again, excluding the doxing and outting part). I feel like the least the grumps should fucking do is reverse this blacklist and then genuinely leave him alone. Stop making this poor man feel paranoid and mentally shit

Not to powerlevel too hard, but this is something the Grumps do, they have blacklisted several people over petty shit. Unfortunately because of how known GG are, they can get away with shit, whisper network people, and because of what happened to DD and a few others, people try to keep the peace with them and their orbiters.

It's really difficult and expensive to do so.
That's assuming Ding Dong is planning a full scale release of Bippy, with physical copies, licensing and everything. That's not something his Patreon would be able to afford.
It's hard to know exactly why since he has been kind of vague about his plans for it and if he disclosed those plans, they are most likely buried within hours of lost streams.

Anyone can publish a game, much like how anyone can publish a book. What it really means to get a publisher is to secure funding. Bippy as it is, is on the self publishing route through Patreonbux. It's obvious DD doesn't really want to rely on that and would prefer a formal publisher.

OK, I know little about the DingDong drama, or about GG blacklisting, but saying that you're "blacklisted" from developing and releasing your own indie games seems weird to me.
Steam publishing costs is only $100USD (which gets refunded if/when you clear $1000 in sales), and there are plenty of gamedev accounts on how even with translation and music licensing, they are able to release their small indie games on Steam for under $500USD in total.
From what you guys have wrote about DDs streams (I only know him from OneyPlays eps), it sounds like self-sabotage using being "blacklisted" as his excuse. GG definitely doesn't have the power to stop him from publishing games on steam, and he has the outreach of the entire OneyPlays fanbase to promote it.
Vampire Survivors and Choo-Choo Charles in the past year alone have demonstrated that indie solo dev games published on Steam can definitely go huge.
Given what people have wrote about his streams, if he's mentally fragile enough to not handle people shit-talking him here and on 4chan occasionally, I can't help but think releasing a game and receiving any amount of criticism (warranted or not) on it would wreck him.
It sucks that GG definitely fucked him over, but people get randomly fucked over in lots of industries, especially creative adjacent ones. But honestly, if he doesn't have the preservice to push through and succeed regardless, he probably never would have. If not GG then something else. Learning from failure, mistakes, and getting screwed over is the key to success in anything.
I'm pretty uninformed on this though, so sorry if I'm totally off base. I've just heard and seen a similar sentiment from lots of people in life who use misfortune (real or perceived) to justify avoiding to confront their personal issues.

I think you're on target with a good amount of this. There's a lot of woe is me from DD that goes well past the actual troubles from Game Grumps. Makes me feel like he's really bathing in all the sympathy and intends to use it. Personally can't blame him but it will dry up and come to bite him in the ass.

At a certain point, it will come down to conjecture. We have incomplete information about everything. Personally, I wouldn't chalk this up to someone randomly getting fucked over and breaking down because of a weak psyche. Going off what DD said in the stream, It really seems like this was a systemic problem that DD and many others wanted to speak out against, and he just happened to be the fall guy because he spoke out first and was later left to drift alone. What stands out most was the reaction to the suicide and how it could benefit them if he killed himself (said half-jokingly, not as a suggestion but a hypothetical with a net positive outcome for the people who said the "joke") and the reaction by the people at the GG offices, acting differently around him and feeling "betrayed" by DD revealing that he's gay when they were asking him if he thought some camgirl was hot. Just abhorrent behavior. Along with his family situation and the general gaslighting, I can understand why DD, someone who's got some logically healthy sensitivity to him, would act the way he did.
This seemed like a little more than just "a mistake to learn from".

I don't think this applies to DD as it's five years later and they are still struggling and trying to do what they love which is make games. DD is a lot of things, a lot of things you are right about, but he's also a perseverant guy.

Ryan's literally the only intelligent dude from SuperMega. He was completely right with speaking out and saying "if you speak out about this game it'll just give it more reason to exist/be remembered".
But I think with the fact that the people at the grumps office were "upset" by this got to him and made him make the decision.
Had Matt never shown him the build, I wonder how things would have been for DD and J. I'm sure they still would have left, but they probably would have gotten a lot of things done. I doubt he would have spoken up about the game to anyone but people he was close to.

Publishing removes a lot of uncertainty and stress, and eases the workload by having other people bother with advertising et al. If memory serves from figures that have been waved around in the thread, their Patreon earnings are still well above the median income level for most people, but Patreon contributions tend to curve downwards in recession - with this one looking like it may last for the better portion of Q1/2. For peace of mind and stability, ironing out a publishing deal does wonders - perhaps the most useful of which for a creative are the creation of deadlines.
It would be interesting to get more information on how close-knit the indie publishing scene is, and to what region/countriess it applies. Perhaps my favorite Venezuelan game was published by this Ysbryd group, for example, who also published - that's right - YIIK. Does the tentacled reach strap even this scrappy publisher? I think that the playthrough unironically brought a lot of positive attention to the game - I had only known it as a laughable failure rather than as this thing that was fascinating in its missteps - so I wouldn't necessarily see the bridge there as burned. But that's all an outsider's perspective besides.
