As it should be, means he is a sensible person, and that's without knowing the experiments. I'm convinced the reason you never fight Alphys is because most pacifist runs would die there.

I'm convinced this is an intentional design decision; if the genocide run is meant to be deliberately grueling to trudge through, it makes sense to deny the player the catharsis of killing one of the most obnoxious characters in any piece of media.
