As much as I like Smiling Friends, I would greatly prefer that it doesn't become "The Oneyplays Show" or, worse, the "Newgrounds Variety Hour". Zach and Michael are talented guys, they don't need to engage in so much nepotism. Or would it be cronyism?

"Helping your friends who are really talented by letting them make content for your show is bad because uhhhhhhhhhh"

For Kirbopher sure, he doesn't bring anything to the table. However, people like Harry Partridge and Holopee have actual unique niche skillets that were proved extremely useful to bring on board - Harry is of course a God-like animator so having him do the Hobbit animation was a good call and Holopee is really unmatched in mimicking that PS1 aesthetic he did for Gwimbly. All these connections Zack has made over decades of indie work are really indispensable for a show that has a pretty low budget.

I just can't see how this is a bad thing, would it be better if they brought in standard crappy shill-types you get with every other show? Nah, I hope they bring in more Newgrounds alumni.

nepotism is actually the greatest good, I expect a Cory animation or Tom Fullups to show up at some point, this is good because taking money and giving it to your friends and family is what god wants you to do.

Allowing your friends who are talented to draw or voice something on your show for little or no money is hardly nepotism. Even if it was who gives a fuck if they are talented? Why would that even bother you?

This is the one time nepotism should be encouraged. Everyone's legit hilarious.

Shit if ding dong and Julian had their shit together they could be the next best Cameo on there. I get the desire not to become famous, but being in a TV cartoon at least once should be every man's dream.

Nepotism and cronyism? The people being brought in (for a single episode) have actual talent, they aren't Zach's cousin who can barely stutter out a poorly written joke or Michael's best friend who is getting a paycheck for sitting on his ass.

nepotism is bad when the nepo hire sucks ass.
Nobody would have a negative connotations or have a problem with it if nepo hires were commonly talented/competent and most of the time they aren't. I get the fear but most of Zach's connections are indie/internet animators with a unique style and have the big profolio to show for it, so it's not bad. Be worried when they get a shitty furfag/fetish/beanmouth animator to contribute and it's not funny or good.

I find making a deal out of "nepotism" in creative fields to be really pointless. People who know each other working together and all succeeding together is pretty dope in my book, and in a creative situation, rarely is another person getting screwed out of a position or whatever. It's not like some manager at a restaurant only promoting the girls he fucks, or his wife over someone more talented, or anything like that.

Look Hollywood does it enough without being called out, that Zach getting the best people on the planet who happen to his buddy's shouldn't matter.
