yeah smiling friends is such an edgefest
Interesting take considering my personal experience is that Zach loves to make fun of people who think being depressed and/or hating life is a personality
I didn't say its about muh cutting wrists you retards. I meant that you have to be a dull mongoloid and nearing mid life crisis to enjoy it, just like The Office.

Well, at least the autism in the thread matches the autism for the fanbase and OneyPlays itself now.

Speaking of autism, holy SHIT 14 hours dingus kong stream. Bro has wild stamina.

It happened a few months ago (maybe a year ago) but DD had a melt down, called a bunch of people fake and homophobic without naming names, announced he was cutting ties with everyone and he had always planned to leave Oneyplays after 2 years, bragged that "kiwifarms will never figure out who I'm talking about and every guess you make will be wrong," then directly shit on Matt Watson from SuperMega because he donated money at the start of the stream, then detailed his child abuse and ranted about some stalker in chat.
All I can think about is this song playing in the background as he makes this impassioned speech:

I hold my position that Zach's brand of comedy is liked solely by miserable 34 year old warehouse workers that want to kill themselves. The only things that come close to that level of anti-lulz are shitty american shows like The Office.
You're allowed to fuss all you want about how Psychicpebbles is an unfunny hack and all the people in your generational group who like him are fools, but you have to concede that at least his stuff isn't drowning in self-deprecating miserable ramblings that have mostly comprised the genre of Adult Animation since the early 2010s.

Any show that isn't another horse guy crying about his depression is gonna get people to start watching since it at least does the bare minimum that entertainment media is supposed to do and that's casually amuse audiences for a short time. Since comedy is so subjective anything that doesn't tickle our fancies in the way we want it, we're most likely gonna absolutely loathe but there at least may be a single kernel of some objective positive that the media has that draws in people. If it didn't nobody would even care about it in the first place at all.

Of course, yes, I equally refuse to watch any shows trying to tell me things about life and how it sucks, I fucking know that already. I think Zach used to be somewhat funny in the very early playthroughs at least, I just want some of the monkey cheese humor back damnit.

My thoughts on the more-main OneyPlays cast:

Adam: He's had an interesting arc so far. I've went from thinking he was hysterical at first with his brand of stupid stories to going "I hope this is an episode he can make a full sentence." But the more recent stuff he seems to be finding a groove that he doesn't have to keep acting like a total fool to keep things funny and I'm interested to see how that develops.

Chris: As discussed here he seems to be phoning things in a little bit, but overall he still retains a fair bit of the goofball that cackles hard at unusual cruelty and slapstick. It's extra nice when he opens up about something he found or has been enjoying to share in an episode too, and if he ever gets his energy back fully that'd be a delight.

Cory: His sperggy behavior is pretty great in doses and as someone else pointed out - he's currently [one of] the only reasons they finish games at all. I always feel like he wants to break down games in a similar way to how DingDong does but he's not nearly verbose enough to put it into a way the others will listen to. His unhinged stories are pretty peak too. I like him on an occasion.

DingDong: Speaking just in matters of how he was on the channel, DingDong was very good at getting conversations about the game itself and all the weird stuff from his early internet experiences made for great topics too. His sarcasm and sass worked really well with Chris and almost every time it was a game of his choice the recording sessions are great.

Julian: Initially I felt like I'd have the least to say about him but his contributions are a lot more subtle. Chris and DingDong liked to provoke him into laughter which is fun in itself and he has a lot more relatable stories than most of the other cast members. Just stuff about growing up without oversharing and fit in well after Chris eased up on pointing out that he was gay for a joke. Any appearance of his without DingDong could be somewhat awkward with him being quiet, at worst.

Lyle: He works somewhat well as a straightman who can throw shade at the others and works with Chris's comedy rather naturally knowing when he's trying to set up a joke. He's got some improvisational skills and works decently with Zach too. The best thing about him might be the sheer levels of utter confusion he can express makes good content. The worst I could say is that too often it feels like he's just hanging around without having any material.

Tomar: Who I think is the current strongest member on board. Other than Cory he feels like the one guy that actually wants to play through the games and that shows with how often he's the one with the controller. A great straightman who can roll with even the most tired jokes and he tries to put meaningful contributions into recordings too. If anyone wants to watch someone very earnestly present a game I couldn't suggest his streams any harder.

Zach: There's so much to say about this funny man while I simultaneously don't have to say anything at all. I find myself sharing clips of him much more than anyone else (Chris and DingDong following) and the best part about his appearances is it feels like Chris is recording with a best friend. He has chemistry with every cast member and knows how to provoke the exact reaction he wants out of people. Then even when he's momentarily being serious he still somehow ends up making that funny.

So are you going to actually go into why you think Zach's style of comedy is for "34 year old miserable warehouse workers that want to kill themselves" are you just going to continue to shit up the thread babbling like a retard?

No, I'm going to make you seethe instead. I mean, what the fuck do you want me to say, I don't think there's that much to go into if it doesn't make me laugh.

I'll go with Smiling Friends as the main example. It's just a bunch of things that happen. His voices aren't funny. It's just trying to be sort of off-putting or odd similarly to what MeatCanyon does. It leaves me completely stonefaced. Like I said, same reaction as The Office. For OneyPlays the funny moments people point to are more of the same. Just that half the time I'm not sure what the fuck he's saying. Or he says something about Tomar.

The only people that I can imagine conceivably enjoying it are people who need the color and retardation to stay alive. Most people I know that like The Office are equally dull. I know that's kicking the hornet's nest when everyone in the thread thinks he's the hottest shit ever but I disagree completely. Although Chris by himself is also a hit or miss.

i def enjoy tomar-- the shit i find most annoying about him is the "tomar's emeralds/ tomar's warcrimes" stuff the fandom runs into the ground, which isn't his fault. That said, tomar's gameplay is often insanely terrible, in a way that makes me think he's secretly stupid or not actually that interested in the game.

he tries to avoid dying to get through a level, but that's about the extent of it. he will go through whole playthroughs without ever discovering/using fundamental mechanics-- at times he doesn't seem motivated or curious enough even to try other buttons on the fucking controller and see what they do. a few examples: robocop, pizza tower, yoshi's island. he's done it on others but those are the ones that occur to me.

his playstyle reminds me of a mom who is doing it as a way to bond with her kids.

ding dong and julian aren't funny and all their jokes amount to doing that one voice or mispronouncing words
chris, zach, and tomar are the only funny guys on the channel, with tomar being a good straightman
I don't know, Ding Dong is very funny when he wants to be. Julian isn't as diehard funny as him or even Tomar, Lyle, Zach or Chris, but he's still pretty funny

Sorry for not circlejerking about how Zach is totally hilarious and not making the eleventh "Tomar caused the holocaust" joke, I didn't mean to cause so much upset in this thread, I've learned my place.

Ding Dong's sarcasm is just funny in general, although I've noticed lately that in a lot of old videos he got preachy and tried to shut down jokes. Those streams have gotten progressively worse though, about the only thing they're worth for now is when he squirms when something uncomfortable is brought up. I still watch the Bart's Nightmare stream from time to time, and that one where he vents about the Dream Daddy debacle.

"everyone who likes Zach is a miserable retard, no I won't explain "
" Wtf why is everyone attacking me for nothing"

Stop being a fag

I did explain though. Also I didn't say he was a miserable retard, or that Zach is a talentless unfunny hack, or whatever words you fanboys want to put in my mouth. I just said the brand of humor is for people who have been so dulled that they need the nonsense to exist, and that the humor is not that funny. Maybe I'm wrong, but considering how totally not upset a few of you are over that take it makes me wonder if I didn't hit a bit too close to home.

You can give me top hats, trash cans, and puzzle pieces all you want but you aren't acting any different from the reddits/youtube comments of the channel lol. You repeat the same gay jokes fifty times and get booty blasted when someone has a different opinion.

I agree with repeating the same joke over and over (I'm guilty of it myself), but you're still being a fag.

It's amazing how clueless Tomar can be at videogames, he also brought the "lets voice act everyone in the game seriously even if these characters already have voice acting" gimmick to the channel and it slows both banter between hosts and gameplay down to a crawl. That recent Oblivion stream was painful to watch sometimes.
Tomar is a good punching bag and his reactions to getting ribbed are funny, though.

The idea of someone having to "phone in" a job where you're just shooting the shit with your friends is so fucking weird to me. You can literally do and say pretty much whatever you want, it can even be boring and your fans will most likely like it.
My life isn't exactly terrible but it just seems like an alien level of privilege for that to be something that's compared to a slog like real work.

If Chris is actually so sick of Oneyplays/making comedy with his friend circle like people are saying, he should probably just dump 90% of his money into silver and get out of LA. Reaching that level of "siiiigh my life is so easy that making easy money joking with my friends is just like such a bore" 90s movie tier angst is insane to me.
