It'll be that way until she dies, and then it's right back to motels, couch surfing with the few friends he hasn't burned bridges with and IP2 RV trips.

But then isn't Jake still her caretaker? I thought they were all supposed to move into a new house this weekend and be one big weird happy family. Why is it now that she decides to kill herself? Something about that doesnt add up in my view. Even if she's upset Blade is drinking tonight, you'd figure she's be at least somewhat excited for the move.
At that age people are rarely excited about relocating, even less so when your mental state is deteriorating and getting used to a new environment gets harder by the day. Being in the same environment with all your possessions in their familiar places, all the doors, appliances, light switches, etc., being where you remember them does a lot to keep their mental state stable and a completely new environment can often result in repeated panic and confusion for long periods.
I also strongly doubt Half-Hoof McGee told Jake anything useful when it comes to caring for Peggy and with her being an ornery parrot at the best of times her teaching him would be a very slow process even if he actually went into it with a desire to really help her, rather than going into it with the idea that he could get paid to drink with a fat loser while occasionally pushing a wheelchair every now and then.
I think it's an image thing. You think Jäger, you think partying, and ski trips, and babes, not depression and doom.
Aleksei Goodnoff's vodka on the other hand, does bring about thoughts of depression and doom.
I think Blade clings to the delusion that his drinking is only for content. He claimed as much on the Lolcow Live episode he was on, while Wings and Boogie tried to play the health and fitness influencers. He said that he only drinks for pay, and that Litt Romney, the person he transforms into when drunk, is not him. Litt Romney probably prefers Jäger because of its party boy connotations too.
I think Blade is basically the face of Jagermeister at this point. It's a shame that he's somehow not sponsored by them yet as he's one of their most devoted consumers.
