as much as a hate poasties i think linus meltdown at the guy was not justfied
Of course it isn't "justified", I mean not because it's a "meltdown", it's because he parroting cathedral orthodoxy to a T. He's totally compromised and that's normal. If he wasn't totally compromised he'd be like RMS. A blacksheep without the corporate comforts, constantly harassed under the guise of miscellaneous nothingburgers, but the real reason is he doesn't compromise himself. You either follow the party line totally or you're out. Linus follows the party line. Greg would absolutely disavow Linus and be propelled at high velocity by corpos and foundations to swift hostile takeover of the project if Linus were to leave the reservation. The same is true vice-versa, it's true for all the corpo bootlickers. You can lose your legacy in a moment merely because you didn't prostrate yourself well enough.

No one genuinely agrees with cathedral orthodoxy 100%, but that is what is required of them, anyone who believes otherwise is unironically 1984-double-think-land. You're either autistically value driven, or you kowtow like a weak normie nigger cattle.

the thing was he was agreeing with linus on the new york times yet he has this meltdown about it
He was agreeing for the wrong reason. I don't even know what Linus reason was, something to do with ads? Maybe the NYT posted an article about how the war in Ukraine might be ambiguous, or some cautious act of questioning a narrative. That tends to rile up globohomos with petty twitter complaints whenever that happens. Even if Linus is angry about NYT posting "fake news", it's not your type of "fake news", chud (and he absolutely has to make that clear).

Yeah, he must have been having a bad day. You don't go off on one just because someone insults your newspaper of choice.
I imagine most of his days are bad after he's given up his legacy in order to suck troon cock. Congratulations, Linus, you cowardly fat faggot.
You can lose your legacy in a moment merely because you didn't prostrate yourself well enough.
You instantly and permanently lose it if you do prostrate yourself, even once, ever.

To anyone who's follwed Linus for a long time: Is this any different to all the public meltdowns he's had in the past or is this just the chickens coming home to roost?
He's got a reputation for this sort of thing.

All the so-called meltdowns I'm aware of happened on the kernel's mailing list, had to do with code, and were entirely justified as Linus was, at the time, the harsh but fair leader of Linux development. That's what the reputation was, telling people who should know better that their code fucking sucks and they're morons (and a "fuck you" to NVIDIA as well, based). This is the first instance where I've seen it happen outside of that context, thanks to their new Fediverse node. Granted, I haven't followed post-psychotherapy Linus much.

As long as they don't go into a complete bubble like most of the "safe" instances, this Fedi arc is going to give insight into just how degenerate and unhinged the people that develop my system's kernel are.

I don't even know what Linus reason was, something to do with ads?
That's really all it was, even as a paying subscriber he kept getting ads.

Linus doesn't blow a fuse on everyone who writes bad code, you have to be very consistent with bad code. If you're new, the mailing list is very kind. I wrote a small patch a long time ago, and he didn't get angry at me, and even replied back with Theo on some small pointers on why my code was bad.

Linus has always been more interested in good code than in playing politics, but also in the independence of the kernel development process from "negative" influences. Absolute meritocracy doesn't play well with the nepotistic tendencies of corporate influence, so he often found himself pissing fire on corporately-sponsored devs, who tried to merge crap patches for internal corporate reasons rather than for the good of the kernel. Google forked their own kernel for android because he wouldn't accept a lot of their android patches, for example.

Red Hat, in particular, wanted to capture kernel dev and swing it to favour their own integrated ecosystem, which would have broken a lot of things for other users, but other organisations also wanted to capture it and turn it to their ends as well. The attempts to #metoo him really kicked off soon after he tore lennart poettering a new arsehole for breaking userspace with his shit code, which inadvertently killed off a red hat attempt to capture the kernel in the process. He quickly grasped what was happening at the time and mitigated it by never letting himself be caught alone with a woman who wasn't his wife, which frustrated the harridans no end. They eventually got to him through his daughter and his inability to push back against troon politics; while he took a brief break as maintainer, to "deal with" his "toxic" attitude, they inserted a code of conduct and new procedures to ensure that kernel development was controlled by the "right people" henceforth.

Linus today tries to appear happy and emotionally balanced, but he is broken. They convinced him to go into perpetual therapy, which has sapped his ability to call out bad code by convincing him that his criticism is inherently toxic. Short of ejecting him from his maintainer position, sapping his ability to go against the flow, or argue effectively against shoddy work, is the next best thing for Red Hat and co. Linus of ten years ago would have told the Rust pushers to suck eggs. Linus of today smiles a dead smile and asks for another beating.

The problem with Hacker News' discussions isn't (just) that they are often weirdly anti-trans / ableist / racist / etc... It's that they are often irrelevant to the actual article and/or full of clueless bystanders who are awfully sure they know more than the article authors and feel the need to techbrosplain and "um, actually", and so on.

(Is it because I'm a woman? Maybe, but I doubt they'd treat me any better if I were a man.)

It's exhausting. HN drives a massive amount of traffic to my site but the comments section are reliably a cesspool.

Case in point: my blog about releasing OpenGL 3.1 on @AsahiLinux received 507 points and 364 comments on Hackernews. Of those 364, it looks like only 1 actually engages with the technical substance of the blog.

Of 364.

I get that it's technically challenging material. The comments in places like r/AsahiLinux aren't going to engage with the material either, but at least they're a lot more positive about it.

But in a place that has the hubris to call itself "Hacker News"?

Hundreds of comments and 99.7% are irrelevant to the content of the post?

That's a low bar.

And it's a trend. The commenters there seem more interested in writing than reading, if you catch my drift.

(And no, they rarely write anything worth reading. Which makes the discussions there all the more baffling.)

I'm not about to play a cat-and-mouse game to avoid my site appearing on HN. But I fully understand why @marcan has done so.

...The anti-trans crap directed at me (or @lina) is just the site's cherry on top 🤡

TLDR: Complaining that people are having conversations.

Said irrelevant comments include saying the project is cool, where it's going, and how they can donate money. It's near uniformly positive, but that's still not good enough for some reason.

And mate, absolutely no-one is doing this because you're a "woman", you raging misogynist.

It will never not be hilarious to me when a tranny TiM tries to use feminism to his advantage. "Oh, you're just treating me poorly because I'm a woman." No you're fucking not!

Also speaking for myself I don't particularly care if you're a tranny, but you side with unpleasant people and refuse to disavow them in the name of being trans. But go on about there's "anti-trans crap" directed at you, that's funny too.

Seeing as lina is just Marcan with a female avatar, I guess you could say he's trans.

The HN thread in question is at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36212674, but it's not worth reading. If he thinks it's anything other than glowing, he's got issues.

Alyssa, I know you'll see this at some point - why not come to the Farms? It's much more welcoming. We promise to respect your pronouns and tell you how you'll always be a woman.

Found some gold on that page from someone who's clearly seething about us and who has us living rent free in their mind, going on about how Lina totally isn't Hector and Byuu totally killed himself, talking with a genuine faggot who is like "bro WTF stop being so paranoid":
constanttransphobia.png
I think the most hilarious part is when they're asked to provide evidence of the "constant transphobia" and then they just fucking don't. Similar situation to when you ask anyone for proof that Byuu killed himself.

Hacker News apparently added a workaround for his referrer block and now Hector wants to ban HN on Asahi Linux entirely. No idea if he means just the project's website or the OS (the latter would be extremely funny tbh).
Either way, completely sane behavior right here. This man is approaching Becky Gerber's levels of being a screeching Karen on the internet.
Why the fuck doesn't this guy have his own thread yet? He's been on my watchlist even before the Byuucide. As if the Asahi Lina troon shit wasn't enough to warrant it already, he's practically begging for one now. There's too much milk spilled across like 4-5 different threads at this moment.

OH MY GOD LOL HE WANTED TO DO IT IN THE OS ITSELF TOO
And he's just proven Louis Rossman's point. As far-out it may have sounded for implying Daniel would likely add some special code to fuck with him, Louis was completely justified in casting doubt on GrapheneOS after the lead dev was outed to be a batshit schizo lunatic. I can imagine a Near future (heh) were FOSS is so pozzed with troons that an organization would okay adding some code where upon visiting Kiwifarms they'd forward to all your contacts some warning such as the one manchild Hector put on his gay website. To these people the end always justifies the means.

Honestly? Because he's boring. It's all so boring and basic and standard. There's nothing really funny yet.

I dunno. I find the whole concept of listening for 30 minutes over the phone, fixating on a very unremarkable obscure song instead of calling emergency services, all while his friend was allegedly roping himself, and the fact that everyone is supposed to believe this story without question pretty funny.

Hint: If I were willing to break the law to take down KF, it would go down and *stay* down, CF or not, and all of its users doxed, and Null's life destroyed. But I'm not.
This quote is also pretty funny too.

Stop using us women a shield for all criticism. I assure you it's not because you are a woman (you are not), but because you are annoying, smug, entitled kid who wants to police everyone's thought.
"omg zomg, my blogposts are too technically challenging for feeble minds of HN users and it's making them mad because a WOMAN is smarter than them!"
Shut the fuck up, just... please the shut fuck up. You are only making it worse for me and other non-diversity-hires women in tech.
I've been in this profession for almost 10 years now and let me tell you, if anything, the most vile, misogynistic and downright creepy shit I've heard was from trannies. Now that I think about it, especially autistic Linux-adjacent trannies like Rosenzweig. It's like they're making them in the same factory - kinda intelligent, but under-socialized, privileged white boys who hate women so much you don't want to hear what they say when they think no one listens. I hate it here.

Also, speaking from experience, highly autistic technical articles/talks, especially on niche topics, usually don't get much in-depth engagement, unless they are presented to an audience specialized in the same niche. This is normal, it's not a sign of disrespect or a proof that the general audience is of a lesser mind than you. Imagine marine biologist stomping his feet and accusing people of being disrespectful of his hard work, because not everyone reading his blog has the autistic level of knowledge about that single species of krills he's passionate about.

Beats me why he doesn't just keep his replies locked by default if he's going to end up locking them anyway.
Mentally ill homosexuals need publicly visible pushback to give false base to their baseless claims of harassment campaigns being run against them. Such a lie eventually runs out of credibility, but is infinitely more viable if they can point at one or more posts and say "SEE? THIS IS JUST A FRACTION OF WHAT THEY DO TO ME PRIVATELY!"
That said, don't consider that a reason to not push back against deranged homos. In fact, you should use this knowledge of their tactics to push back against retarded faggots even harder.
