TLDR: Complaining that people are having conversations.

Said irrelevant comments include saying the project is cool, where it's going, and how they can donate money. It's near uniformly positive, but that's still not good enough for some reason.

And mate, absolutely no-one is doing this because you're a "woman", you raging misogynist.

HN obviously has its share of "techbrosplain and um, actually" people, but by whining that HN doesn't engage in the precise technical content of the post, she's displaying the same autistic behavior she's complaining about. By inserting terms like "cesspool" and "anti-trans" and employing a VERY strict definition of "on-topic" she's essentially lying with the truth as that thread is clearly none of those things.

"People are talking about my project in overwhelmingly glowing terms but they're not doing it in the way I want them to! Someone stop these fascist Nazis before they kill us all!"

At this point I'm surprised the Ashai project has existed for this long without it imploding into some weird fork-schism. The internal dev drama must be unreal.
I think the whole project is a parallel construction to allow Apple insiders to leak already completed work in a plausible way. That would explain why there's so much secrecy and focus on appearance management while still making consistent progress. I can't think of any other FOSS project run this way.

The HN thread in question is at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36212674, but it's not worth reading. If he thinks it's anything other than glowing, he's got issues.

Alyssa, I know you'll see this at some point - why not come to the Farms? It's much more welcoming. We promise to respect your pronouns and tell you how you'll always be a woman.

George Hotz's video on his falling out with AMD was... freewheeling, to say the least. See for yourself:
It actually made me skeptical of tinygrad. It seemed like a cool project at first, and I really don't know anything about George, but what advantage is it going to have over big, corporate backed ML languages/compilers already targeting AMD? Or other VC backed community projects, like llama.cpp, that are already operating and ahead of the curve with seemingly more grounded devs?
Here's something potentially interesting.

I haven't been following geohotz super closely but when I saw him buying a bunch of AMD cards I was like "wtf why would you dump that money into cards with fringe support". This GitHub issue is the perfect example of what AMD thinks of GPU compute: https://github.com/RadeonOpenCompute/ROCm/issues/1714

I assumed maybe because he's handwriting his own stuff it'd be okay, but it's also not unsurprising that it was wasted effort.

Meanwhile Jensen has been open that their "secret to success" was to ensure every single card they released had CUDA support, along with lots of R&D into CUDA itself. AMD refuses to do the basic and obvious thing which is ensure every single Radeon branded card released as full ROCm support up to the current version at whatever the time of the card release is.

Opera(GX) Corp made a 27 long tweet thread trying to explain how OperaGX isn't spyware while describing OperaGX as spyware. https://nitter.1d4.us/Opera_Security/status/1666002210495315968 (https://archive.vn/uCvEj)

I'll admit the spyware neocities guy is kinda schizo with his ratings (Brave should be medium, not high), but it's kinda funny to call this an instance of hating "paid-commercial" despite it actually being commercial freeware. This isn't like people complaining that the price of ZBrush is increasing, this is a generic shitty spyware fork of a existing FOSS codebase. It's totally pointless.

Also I want to deboonk people complaining about Chrome taking too much RAM (*the* feature of OperaGX). Using RAM is good, actually. Chromium is the fastest browser in the world, and they do that because storing things in RAM is good. Despite that Chromium is actually constantly reading and writing to the disk, which I'd honestly prefer it didn't, I have 64GB of RAM, fucking use it. Meanwhile your operating system has swap-space if you actually run out of RAM, but honestly I think Chromium tries to handle it itself (which is why it's constantly reading and writing to disk).

Rest of thread in archives because twitter fucked itself a while ago and now archive.today can't grab all tweets in a thread:
Link to original article on Opera (archive)
I actually recognize the website and seen it before, has a very unique look in screenshots.

I think the most damning part is that they don't address at all the fact that it's closed source, which the spyware.neocities.org guy points out.

We actually have a thread in PG on neocities sites, I think we should keep watch on these sorts of privacy/schizo neocities sites too. For example the Opera article says it was originally sourced from digdeeper.neocities.org, which is ran by someone who appears to be a 9/11 and moon landing truther (archive). This is an article about how Wikipedia is inaccurate, which is true, but Wikipedia is right on 9/11 and the moon landing. A better example of Wikipedia's bullshit would be its article on the Kiwi Farms.

Pick one, Drew.
Big yawn, the same old tired rhetoric, nothing new. No one cares Drew, the troons aren't going to fuck you. Not even woketards think this is stunning or brave. You're on a trajectory of writing less and less code and becoming some grifter going around promoting DEI but you will fail because you forgot the most important thing: YOU'RE A FUCKING WHITE MALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need a deadpool on Drew's transition. He's gonna transition, right? It feels like an inevitability.

Pick one, Drew.
Reading this post gives me severe whiplash.

He says someone has told him that they've raped women and another person has told him that they're a pedophile. So why the fuck aren't you naming and shaming them?! He whines about the "failure" of the "hacker community" as a whole, but does he forget he's a hacker in the community too? As the adage goes, you're not stuck in traffic, you are traffic.

Then he goes on about muh racism, sexism, transphobia, misogyny, no specifics given, and keeps placing rapists in the same vein as them. One of those things is not like the other. It's also contradictory because many rapists are trannies (see Elliot "Liz" Fong-Jones). It's especially ironic because he says "believe the victims" but I doubt he believes Elliot's victim, and Elliot's a notorious figure in tech.

Also he says to not bitch about codes of conduct but codes of conduct didn't prevent Elliot from raping someone. And he says "fuck Richard Stallman" at the end even though he's done nothing wrong.

Well, there's a good chance it's the end result of his breakdown. Especially as he's seeing a therapist, and we know how they enable this shit.

Lily DeVault? Or is he more of an Alice?

I went to GPN, a hacker event in Germany, at the start of June. It was a welcome relief from the stress I’ve faced this year, a chance to celebrate hacker culture and a warm reminder of the beauty of our community. It was wonderful. Then, on the last night, a friend took me aside and confided in me that they are a pedophile, and told me it was okay because they respected the age of consent in Germany – which is 14.
Yes, Drew, it's a German at a tech convention in Germany. Why are you surprised? Have you seen the freaks at CCC? Most importantly, why do these degenerates factor so much in to your opinion of the mostly-quiet programming community at large?
Drew DeVault said:
The hacker community has been the home I never had, but I’m not really feeling at home here right now.
I believe this is the core issue most of these people have. A hobby is not a home, a job is not a home, neither are places where you volunteer your time and coding efforts. Imagine a person unironically saying "the woodworking community has been the home I never had", fucking LMAO. People like you have made tech spaces online into this parasocial hell. This "home" would only attract broken, often malicious people who have been ostracized IRL. They have now wormed their way in so deep there is no getting rid of them. Attending in-person events with such inspiring diversity is a great argument for gun rights and stand-your-ground laws.

Also he says to not bitch about codes of conduct but codes of conduct didn't prevent Elliot from raping someone. And he says "fuck Richard Stallman" at the end even though he's done nothing wrong.
You have to put the blame on a group of people that are allowed to be blamed, otherwise your social score is damaged or people from your online "home" start reaching for your throat. I'm sure his therapist padded this rationalization with bullshit about generational trauma or old whitey bad.

He's gonna transition, right? It feels like an inevitability.
If he does transition, it's gonna be rough. Benjamin Franklin from that AGDQ picture rough. He just turned 30 and his hairline is already looking like this:
