Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
This is completely out of the current discourse, but I've been thinking at how blender, a FOSS 3D software, in 2022 was downloaded about 15 million times. And yet the amount of people who joined the fund, or even donated once was much less than a million.
It's sad, because everyone shoots out ideas on what to fix and what new features and yet there's basically no funding to do implement those fixes and ideas at a reasonable pace. Most people I talked to are dead tired of Maya for all sorts of reason, some of them even use blender at home. Yet it's still not "production ready" due to some features that require lots of work which is outside of the realm of possibility as of now.

And then there's people who donate monthly to shit like the Goo engine, which is a spit in the face since it took blender, modified and paywalled it without even contributing to the upstream.
Or those who pay monthly for stuff they never use, and yet there's something here that could use a bit of extra funding to become even better than it already is.
Even those dumb coomers that love those 3D animations should have figured out by now that more than half of those are made in Blender and not SFM anymore.

Someone I know told me that the issue may be that the blender's splash screen. It's clean and it's not begging for people to donate. There is a heart along the various options which links to the fund.blender.org website, but maybe we should tell them to put a giant "PLEASE DONATE" banner on the splash screen? :optimistic:

If possible, donate something to the blender fund, there is a "one time only" option, and money sent to the blender fund will be deployed to help blender's development, unlike wikipedo that uses it for God knows what these days.

What makes me TMI was that one time a couple of months ago where some retards were DDoSing the Blender.org website, which is the reason why it now blocks ToR connections.

oh, by the way, someone made Doom run in blender:
go gaslight Null into donating :hah:

40 million RPS they say:

1 thread - Pingora echo http server - 7,9000 RPS
2 thread - Pingora echo http server - 12,4000 RPS
3 thread - Pingora echo http server - 17,0000 RPS

1 worker - nginx http server - 9,8000 RPS
2 worker - nginx http server - 18,1000 RPS
3 worker - nginx http server - 22,1000 RPS

90% of the way to nginx performance isn't a bad starting point tbh. I still won't be using it though.

God bless the open source autists who foiled that chink plan last week

It also helped that it was only in bleeding edge distros not in something that's lts or stable, otherwise corporations might have caught on it first. If you handle any automations involving sshing into many servers this can become a bit more visible in some circumstances. Most automation software have alerts for exceeding average job times, and if your job is 100 nodes, 50 seconds for something that normally takes 20 would blow up sysadmins' phones as it's more than double.

Not to downplay how cool the guy is, for the above to happen you'd need a very specific set of circumstances, rarely you see someone using ssh 100 times in a row in the same job without parallelizing it, and it would have been catastrophic for corporations to find out this way as that means they would've probably already been compromised.

The Hyprland main developer, Vaxry, has received fanmail (A) from one Lyude Paul (she/her), member of Freedesktop.org's CoC team, telling him (from she/her's RedHat employee mail address) that he's on notice for not banning enough badthink from his own communities. He has published the full conversation, which is attached to this post. The conversation is really just the usual, except that Vaxry ends his final mail with a threat of legal action, so there is a small chance of even more extremely gay drama brewing on the horizon.

Note that Hyprland has no direct relation to FDO and is not covered by the latter's CoC. It is however software for Wayland and Wayland is an FDO project, so the dev occasionally interacts with FDO and is likely at risk of being personally banned. Vaxry has been previously involved in slapfights with FOSScow Drew Devault over not bending the knee hard enough, to be found in that thread's OP.

Lyude Paul (she/her) is a reverse engineer furfag tranny from RedHat whose name is a play on lewd, as you can see from his old email thatslyude@gmail.com. If you'd like to attach a face to the name, she/her looks as expected:

You missed out the most important part in the lede: RedHat employee. He sent his accusations from a redhat email address and was throwing his redhat weight around, the same way brickface used to throw his google weight around. RedHat is the source of so many open source bullshit decisions because of people like this.

Power Word is Stephen Chandler Paul. It looks like he's been using the thatslyude address for long before he trooned out. The only real result I got for "Lyude" apart from him was a (male) character in some weebshit game, so presumably that's where it comes from.

Trannyism is so incredibly cringe. Imagine having a serious job like software developer, yet you spend your time bullying teenagers and dressing up in women's clothing. And your official work profile pic is a cartoon mouse that you fetishize. Where did it all go so wrong, Ste?

Eastern europeans are truly the salvation of programming. Whenever you see a programmer openly stand up to this sort of bullshit, it's usually someone from Eastern Europe.

Maybe a lot of this autism that's happening is because the trannies & etc just have too much money and they have no idea what suffering actually is, so they go on these crusades thinking they've been oppressed and they suffered and whatnot, but the based eastern european probably ate only potatoes as a kid so this is nonsense to him.

My line of thought was that "that's lewd" used to be an imageboard (specifically /a/) meme. He explicitly specifies that it is to be pronounced lee-ood here (A), but for all I know that's a "it's written 'cock' but pronounced 'sosk' ;) ;) ;)" thing.

I found this write-up of Lyude from 2018: https://kiwifarms.st/threads/melani...l-woods-floraverse.5567/page-868#post-3322707

It looks like he used to use his middle name of Chandler. No wonder he wanted to call himself something else...

EDIT:

No idea how I saw "furry troon" and didn't think to look him up on here. Of course he's using his fart fetish fursona's name. :suffering: Gotta love how the guy who bitchblogs the moment he's told to fuck off complains about "people who've never heard 'no'", too. Clearly the kind of guy you want in conflict resolution. Bravo, RedHat.

You know, I was wondering what this tranny was Vaxry actually threatening with and this is his statement:
To answer your queson: Yes, actually. The code of conduct team absolutely has the right to
remove you from Freedesktop.org and ban you from the gitlab instance.
This is the biggest "who gives a fuck" ever.

Trying to force him to change the rules of his community with "you're getting banned from this irrelevant website and GitLab instance"

The only thing I can think of when I hear Freedesktop.org is one of those spammy websites that haven't been updated since 2003 that gives you free viruses desktop wallpapers and mouse icons. I will ignore any evidence to the contrary because I have determined I am right and this is what it must be.

For what it's worth, FDO is somewhat big. It's supposed to be this place where people working on, well, free desktop things work together to make shit interoperable. In practice it's dominated by the RedHat circlejerk around Systemd and GNOME, which takes a fat ogre shit on interoperability with the outside world and creates great standards such as "this thing systemd got last week, including every minor misfeature".
