It's almost certainly linked to Apex legends dropping linux support - it went viral and ever since a lot of stupid people have been parroting it.
I have enough belief that a majority of the linux “clients” they saw were cheating and pulled the plug based on that.

To be completely fair linux did allow to completely ignore EAC on apex, thus forcing jannies there to resort to manual bans.

I believe the "most cheaters use Linux" claim could be related to cathook, one of the most notorious cheat suites that was powering the TF2 Bot Crisis (at least when it was at its worst, not sure if it ever got replaced).
All catbots were really minimized tf2 clients following a navpath and a few things for automation powered by cathook. This can be easily done in other cheats like lmaobox used to have with its luas. Atm there’s a fork of amalgam that enables botting which runs on windows and linux.

The platform is of little significance

Right, I forgot that you can never have any opinions about Windows that aren't nothing but hatred and negativity on this site or the Linux gunt guard will yell me out. Sorry for daring to enter your sacred grounds.
while we respect your right to personally use windows here in the computer thunderdome, it is the opinion of most of us that redmond's implementation of windows is best avoided if at all possible
recommending it as a first choice is a great way to get 8 "no, what the fuck? what kind of crazy shit are you smoking?"
any positives of windows (there are a few, here and there) are just unfortunately negated by the fact that it is a steadily-jeetier proprietary operating system from a big tech niggercorp that rivals google in how shitty it is
I have worked on xlibre and its not that bad really. But even if it was that bad it wouldn't justify moving from x11 to wayland. The xorg server also switched to meson 8 years ago.
ok then idk what those guys are smoking, cadt brainlets at it again i guess
i hope xlibre gets adopted by mainstream distributions one day, people working on x is good

on one platform the call to do it is fnig(int n) and on the other the call is FuckNiggersEx(lpngrHdlnNigger mcNigger, NULL, NULL)
daily reminder: anybody trying to prevent cheating on the client is fighting a pointless war like the niggers who make drm or the people that make antiviruses

I'm curious to hear what it it about Windows that you are so proud of.

To outright prevent it is never the exact goal, what is a good target is making it as difficult as possible to do, and even then limit the amount of surface the client can cheat with.
yeah i know it tries to deter it instead of completely prevent it but at the end of the day the dma card will see everything the server sends to the client and the autist will find a way to write to any memory without the anticheat figuring out
there are a bunch of nasty tradeoffs involved

The only anticheat system that works is to have your own dedicated server with a close community and an always-online janny ready to ban faggots. Zoomies will never know what it's like.

I don't have to worry about whether or not a sadistic pedophile is contributing to the desktop that I use.

Look, I've had this argument dozens of times already with it always ending the same way, and it's not like I'm fucking crazy.

SO FUCK, YOU HERMANO, OKAY?

dma card will see everything
And? DMA requires a significant investment of

* A second PC (which also has to be adequate)
* A fuser (out of stock)
* KMbox
* The DMA itself, which also depending on your needs may hike in price
* DMA cheat software, which is in of itself more expensive given the former
* DMA software, which can get detected and get you banned, which also costs a lot

Microsoft has over 200 000 employees, it's guaranteed that some pedophiles contribute to windows and linux desktop. But I guess ignorance is a bliss? as long as you dont know that they are pedophiles it doesn't matter? Pedophiles contribute to windows desktop and there is nothing you can do about it, you have to use the pedo desktop.
On linux you can choose to not use gnome. At least canonical fired him in the end.

Microsoft has a paid PR management department, and the Ubuntu guy was only discovered because he was an idiot that attacked a different project. Microsoft could potentially have a thousand times more pedophiles and sexual assaulters and we just don't know about them because they didn't draw attention to themselves.

Or are you claiming that you have gained access to the entire Microsoft employee database, including the employees in India (who are so well known for being perfect angels), and vetted every single one to ensure they aren't a sexual assaulter or pedophile?

I don't have to worry about whether or not a sadistic pedophile is contributing to the desktop that I use.
this doesn't matter though
i'd use this system even if major parts of it were singlehandedly written by jeffrey epstein because i only care about whether the program itself is good
the actual security compromises due to the insane people writing the code are thankfully very rare, hell, it's not even that common to see a pride flag jammed in the ui
you have more to worry about from things like the xz backdoor

not to mention the shit that microsoft (as an entity itself) constantly gets up to

there are probably a shitload of disgusting pedophiles in microsoft but when they get exposed they get exposed in some hr ticket that never sees the light of day (and maybe microsoft sometimes covers it up just like canonical, and frequently gets away with it)
as opposed to the linux method where a pedophile gets exposed and the information is immediately rapidly distributed to millions of people
it is my opinion as a kiwi farmer that the second option is better (and, more importantly, way funnier)

The best anti-cheat system is making the ranked mode allow hack v hack and having an unranked mode with mild anticheat. The problem is that e-sports exists, so this will never happen.

It's a complaint I've seen reiterated over and over. Could be bullshit, could be more noticable with more different refresh rates, 144hz vs. 75hz for example. Can't confirm personally.
This is one the biggest eye openers for me that X11 has been held back for years just for wayland to shine.

This "Reason why X11 is fundamentally broken and why wayland is better" has been fixed for 4 years. Is it a perfect solution no, but its a solution with not a lot of drawbacks for 99% of usecases.

Updated Inclusive Language Guide Calls Out "Sanity Check", "Hung", "Native Support" (Phoronix) (Archive)
The Inclusive Language Guide used by the Academy Software Foundation since 2021 had already recommended replacing common references like master/slave, blacklist/whitelist, gendered language, and more. While the updated guide outlines some additional phrases that should be avoided/replaced by their open-source projects/developers.

New to the list of socially-charged language is "native support" that should be replaced to "core support" or "built-in support" as well as replacing "pow-wow" with "huddle" or "meeting".

Deemed as ableist language to be replaced is not using "sanity check" but replacing it with "validation check" or "consistency check" or similar. Also recommended is not using "dummy" functions but instead referring to "placeholder", "stub", or "sample".

Considered as violent language is not using the word "hung" but replacing such usage with "unresponsive" or "stalled".
Native Support being offensive is a new one...

what is a good target is making it as difficult as possible to do, and even then limit the amount of surface the client can cheat with
You're obviously no programmer, claiming this. Do you not grasp how these two properties are mutually self defeating? The more you make it difficult to do, the greater your attack surface.

i think in the very long run, we should be aiming to end up at a nice primarily wayland-based system
it really is a bit cleaner than x11 and perhaps one day in the future we won't need x anymore except for when we want to run xeyes for a quick laugh
xorg absolutely needs to be taken care of though, both for the sake of people who still use it and so xwayland will be really good

"Considered as violent language is not using the word "hung" but replacing such usage with "unresponsive" or "stalled"."

"Hung" doesn't equal "hanged by the neck until dead". Is it now violent to hang up a phone call?

Yes, you do have to worry, assuming you plan to use an up-to-date Windows 11 24H2 or newer.

Windows now relies on many FOSS projects which can and do accept external contributions without vetting the people making them. For example, the Start Menu and Settings apps use React Native, which isn't written by MS employees, which means any paedo contributor could have added code at any point. Then you have webview2 which utilises Chromium for taskbar widgets, and Qt for apps like Microsoft OneDrive which ship with the system. That's ignoring Microsoft's own FOSS projects which ship with the system directly, like Windows Package Manager (winget) which has just as many employee contributions as external ones. Oh, and don't forget all those codecs Microsoft relies upon throughout the system, unpack those and you'll see some of them rely on ffmpeg, gstreamer and friends, just like on Linux. Also, don't forget the kernel, where there's open-source DTrace and eBPF support where external contributions are present as well as common system services/utilities (like OpenSSH).

Even for fully proprietary parts of the system, Microsoft still wouldn't know if they had paedophiles writing code for them, as they don't even properly account for what their employees do on the clock once employed, let alone what they get up to in their spare time. All we do know for sure is that their background checks would have prevented known US-listed sex offenders (such as Jeremy Bicha) from being employed there; but that's kinda meaningless in terms of who is actually contributing to what you're actually using in the real world.

but surely there must be some reason why nearly every emulator is available for Linux.
This is probably because no one is making emulators commercially as they would be sued into the dirt. So they're going to be open source and that usually means they support linux as a matter of course.

Windows is objectively the superior OS for gaming. Shit just works without needing to jump through a billion gay hoops.
Yeah, like that time half life wouldn't run because the microsoft game store thing servers had been shut down!

Also, like 99% of cheaters in online games use Linux, so it's increasingly not going to be supported in the future.
Blatantly false.

I am literally running multiple monitors with different refresh rates on XLibre (and Xorg before this for several years). As far as I can tell this has NEVER been true not been true for several years. I've also said as much multiple times I think in here but if not in the linux thread.
Edit:
This "Reason why X11 is fundamentally broken and why wayland is better" has been fixed for 4 years.
