UN Orchestras Pull Tchaikovsky From Concerts Over Russia's War on Ukraine

Orchestras Pull Tchaikovsky From Concerts Over Russia's War on Ukraine

Several orchestras have recently announced changes to their concert programs, removing the legendary Romantic-era composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky from their lineups amid the Russian war on Ukraine.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine at the end of February, and several large companies and corporations have since cut ties with Russia in response. Even more support for Ukraine has been shown as citizens across the world have personally boycotted Russian-based goods or services, but some internet users say that the banning of 19th-century classical music might be taking it a step too far.
On Wednesday, Wales' Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra announced it would be removing Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" from a March 18 concert.
Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the Romantic Period, best known for his ballets, "The Nutcracker," "Swan Lake," and "Sleeping Beauty," as well as several more famous concertos and symphonies, including "1812 Overture." The composer died in 1893 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

A statement on the orchestra's official website said, "In light of the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, with the agreement of St. David's Hall, feel the previously advertised programme including the 1812 Overture to be inappropriate at this time."
The "1812 Overture" was written to celebrate Russia's defense against the invasion of Napoleon, and is notable for featuring a barrage of cannon fire in its composition.
The director for the orchestra, Martin May, told Newsweek, "The decision on this concert was very much based on here and now. A member of the orchestra has family directly involved in the Ukraine situation and we are trying to respect that situation during the immediate term. There were also two military themed pieces as part of the programme (Marche Slave and 1812) that we felt were particularly inappropriate at this time."
May added that another piece of Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 2," titled "Little Russian," was deemed offensive to Ukrainians. There are currently no plans to change any of the summer and autumn concerts featuring other Russian composers. "This is a one off decision made with the best of intentions," he said.

On Twitter, users have voiced their concerns about the move. YouTuber and podcaster Steven Crowder tweeted, "I get it. You don't like Putin. I don't, either. But why cancel Tchaikovsky? He's been dead for over 100 years. I guess even the dead aren't safe from being canceled."

Another called out the cultural boycott, saying, "Tchaikovsky died 129 years before Putin decided to invade Ukraine. He was gay, liberal and ultimately rejected Russian nationalism. We must not allow our righteous hatred of the invasion turn into disgust at all things Russian or the Russian people."

In place of Tchaikovsky's work, the Cardiff Philharmonic will be playing John Williams' "The Cowboys Overture" and Czech composer Antonín Dvořák's "Symphony No. 8, Op. 88."
The Chubu Philharmonic Orchestra in Japan also announced that it will be replacing Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" in its concert in central Japan this month, according to the Japanese newspaper, The Mainichi.
The Chubu Philharmonic also cited the war as the reason for the change. The orchestra's office told The Mainichi, "We stand with Ukraine by following the example of this piece, which is a wish for the freedom and independence of Finland, then under Russian rule."
It is reported it will add a different piece by Tchaikovsky from "The Nutcracker" ballet.
Newsweek reached out to the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra for further comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.

Will there be jogger vs russkie-american attacks? and who will the msm blame it on? Trumpers love russia and fascism so it can't be them, or is beating up russians patriotic and we can go ahead and celebrate jogger lifestyles even more?
Supposedly sjws and ANTIFA types have been breaking the windows of Russian owned businesses in big coastal cities but those cities have so much crime and chaos it's hard to tell if that's what's actually happening.

Haha “Freedom Fries” indeed.

Businesses: “See? We hate Russia too! So give us your money!”
It'd be funny, if the exact same people in the wake of 9-11 who are currently keying a red car in the parking lot didn't mock the idea of Freedom Fries as proof conservatism was only a think for fat rednecks and would be dying off soon....

I really hope (optimism I know) that this whole Ukraine deal will finally teach those of us in the public who have yet to learn it: Cancel Culture doesn't WORK.

No matter HOW many Russian things you cancel, Putin is not going to suddenly reach his internal shame limit and withdraw........
It's not about Putin giving up. They say so, but it's not about it.

1. it's about their own virtue, pure virtue signalling. Not only they are against Putin and supporting Ukraine, they're doing something concrete about it... which is not listening to Tchaikovsky.

2. it's also about forcing others to do the war they aren't fighting. Pushing Russian people will make them act against Putin, so their action is to make others do the thing they can't do.

These are people who believe they're good by believing the right things, they have never done anything of real value to actually change the world they think it's so bad. And media knows it well, that's why they're pushing for those stupid Ukraine flags. That's the new virtue now that masks are about to be let go.

Russia abandoned gobbudism and doesn't kowtow to the Gay Mafia. There's also neocons and neolibs who still think Russia is as capable as it was in 1985 (neocons, interestingly, are the spiritual successors of Trotskyites, who believe the world must be run their way or the high way).
Isn't it also because they have such a massive hateboner for Trump that it transfers over to Russia as well because of the their narrative that Trump would have never won in 2016 if it wasn't for Russian collusion?

Yes, but, long before that, Russia was on the shitlist for not bending a knee to all progressive causes circa 2005 (when the REAL hate began, not just "they're geopolitical opponents" but "they're evil and we gotta get them before they get us" )

In essence, they were Patient Zero for the lefty/progressive zeitgeist of "evolve to our Current Year (tm) thinking level or be canceled" - They were a perfect Hate Sink : Foreign, Conservative, Big Military, Traditional Enemy, Language and Culture most American Karens are ignorant of... etc.

And was pretty tame still, troonism and CRT hadn't taken hold yet, it was still just "don't persecute gays" - as the demands of the left have moved even further off the map, the hate has only grown hotter for the original sin of not being on their side when they declared the End of History.

There wasn't a peep about Eeeebil Russia during Dubya..... even before 9-11.

yeah and some vodkas aren't made in russia but stores are banning it because of russian association
therefore to support the ukraine we should ban communism
Funny thing is almost all legit commies, tankies as they might be (plus assorted groups like various Trotskyist parties), oppose this response to Russia because they hate NATO imperialism and the United States more than anything else.
Isn't it also because they have such a massive hateboner for Trump that it transfers over to Russia as well because of the their narrative that Trump would have never won in 2016 if it wasn't for Russian collusion?
I kind of figure this is it. To a normal, sane person, Russia hasn't done anything to us, so we just shrug and say "eh, Putin's kind of a jerk." But these people have been told for years that Putin put Trump in office and regularly tries to install foreign versions of Trump globally. He--and the Russian state as a whole--are some sort of masterminds who lay behind those final forces of backwardsness holding us back from that superior future. Now they finally have a chance to let out their inner hatred for this one individual behind everyone they hate.

Pretty dumb thing to do considering Tchaikovsky has been dead for more then 100 years and has nothing to do with the Russian state in its modern form. Oh well, more 1812 Overture for me then.

Yup. This just keeps getting more and more retarded. Are supermarkets pulling Russian dressing from shelves yet? Have we reached that level of stupid yet?

Maybe I’m retarded, but can someone explain why the western left has such a massive hateboner for Russia?
As I said, triple brackets. The west left have always been financed by triple brackets like Soros.

The only evidence that [Tchaikovsky] was gay relies on a previously unseen letter first published in a book in 2018. One of his supposed gay lovers according to the letter, his servant Aleksey, was married multiple times and had kids. It's very curious that these "homosexual" men keep on entering relationships with women and having sex with them. I find it very odd that decades of relationships with women are thought to be faked, but one letter is definitive proof that he is gay.
The evidence that Tchaikovsky was gay is now quite strong, as recounted by Richard Taruskin's essay " Pathetic Symphonist - Chaikovsky, Russia, Sexuality, and the Study of Music" (excluse the spelling; Taruskin has been on a one-man crusade to drop the T of Tchaikovsky) collected in his book On Russian Music. Among the evidence Taruskin cited:
  • That Tchaikovsky was gay was well-known during his time, and the gossip press made innuendos about it.
  • Piotr Tchaikovsky's younger brother, Modest, who was also gay, was relieve to learn that his admired big brother is also gay. Piotr Tchaikovsky was 24 at the time.
  • Tchaikovsky was quite familiar with the gay scene in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Paris, and had been cruising in those cities.

The series of letter Piotr sent to Modest were quite clinching:

You can criticize Taruskin for a lot of things: he is a triple bracket who loves nothing more than grudge-wank (he wanted to cancel certain works by Prokofiev because they allegedly invoke someone's trauma, for instance), and he is buddy (or at least on friendly terms) with the quack Susan McClary. But I think he did critically assessed the evidence presented and I trust him on the matter.

Depending on how long the sanctions are going to stick around, Russia may well be the default villain for the next year or three. If not Russians, then a very very thinly veiled stand-in like "The nation of Parmistan".

That happened in modern FPS games, that has a Middle East country as the antagonist. The Modern Warfare games had the OpFor faction, and Battlefield 2 had the Middle Eastern Coalition.

Let's get rid of Anastasia too then

The animated film got pulled from Disney+ this week but they swear it was just a coincidence.

Maybe I’m retarded, but can someone explain why the western left has such a massive hateboner for Russia? I’m not talking about the Ukraine situation, I mean they’ve hated anything slightly related to Russia for years now. And given that Russia has historically been so closely associated with communism, I’d think the left would love them. Unfounded cries of “muh russia” have been so frequent since 2016/2017 that I instinctively brush off any screeching about it, so I could be missing something obvious.

People who were around during the Cold War were conditioned heavily to hate the rooskis. That includes GenXers, like, when I was in 3rd grade we had this club for kids who were into space exploration but instead of just being normal nerd shit they included the whole angle of needing to beat the rooskis in the space race. But that was pleasant and friendly compared to what boomers got, with constant nuclear drills and things like the Russian spies in the moose and squirrel cartoon on Saturday morning.

Accordingly the dumber tiers of Americans simply hate Russians- and anyone who speaks with anything similar as an accent or comes from the same quadrant of the map, including Romanians, Hungarians, Georgians, Armenians and others not even in the Slav family- without fully realizing why. Even lower than orange man bad reflex, just pure lizard brain tribal bigotry.

They have never been good at telling Russians from other "white people who drop article and roll r" and won't be getting any better. So Poles, Bulgarians, and Kazakhs alike can expect a pretty bad time coming up here.

Also like others mentioned, the fact that Russians have been slowly but surely rebuilding their church, dropping their rates of abortion and other serious vices, and banning things like gay propaganda aimed at kids- well say no more right?

Supposedly sjws and ANTIFA types have been breaking the windows of Russian owned businesses in big coastal cities but those cities have so much crime and chaos it's hard to tell if that's what's actually happening.

Am Slav but not Russian (or am I?) and shit is happening, especially to churches- they make easy targets due to the domes and three bar crosses and usually having info in Cyrillic script out front plus a priest isn't allowed to shoot you dead or he can't be a priest anymore. To avoid further negative attention some churches are quietly cleaning up the mess vandals leave and instructing parishioners to shush up about it so the media doesn't come blazing in.

The AnH Invasion thread is filled with these people. The more I saw of this attitude, the more convinced I became that entire thread is propaganda.
