Oscars 2021

It's such bullshit that Ghibli never won another Oscar after Spirited Away.
I honestly believe Disney (Lasseter, mostly) pulled some strings to have Spirited Away win. The Academy hates animated and foreign films so much, they need to be bribed to fork over a win to an foreign animated film (and an animated film by Japanese Walt Disney at that).

Don't forget the Horror Genre as well. Hereditary and Midsommar got zero recognition, despite acting powerhouse performances from their leading ladies. Unless it's a woke film like Get Out, the horror genre is constantly neglected and ignored, causing the genre to stagger and become increasingly lackluster in turn. Because why try when no one acknowledges your talents?

In the case of animation films, stop motion + claymation equally gets the shaft up against Pixar or Disney. Fantastic Mr. Fox or Coraline were both worthy contenders against Up. This year, Wolf Walkers is the underdog against Soul and whatever other bland shit Disney puked out recently. It's all a joke.

The Academy have always been douchebags (somehow Alfred Hitchcock of all people never won Best Director and when they gave him a lifetime achievement award all he had to say was "thank you") but at least back in the day they weren't Woke and the movies they would make to try to win Oscars weren't Woke.

Now it's all Woke.

Horror is a great example, Edgar Allen Poe is considered classic literature and that's as horror as horror can get, so why the bias against horror films?

Didn't silence of the lambs when a Oscar or was that a golden globe? Either way i believe on that one. It only won because the award show was legit lying to itself that it wasn't a horror movie.

Ok so it was the Oscars and apparently it won more than one Oscar. Like I said the Oscars lied to themselves that silence of the lambs wasn't a horror movie.
Irony is that nowadays, Silence of the Lambs wouldn't get nominated for anything but the Razzies if it gets released at all. The Oscars (rightfully) praising the shit out of it in 1992 is hilarious compared to how much they virtue signal now.

Oh definitely. The movie would be acuaed of being transphobe because of Buffalo Bill

Silence is more of a cop thriller than a horror flick.

IIRC, Brian Cox passed on reprising the role of Lecter because he thought it would bomb. And while Cox is arguably the better portrayal, Hopkins scored the Oscar for best dramatic lead, despite only appearing for 15 minutes. Anne Hathaway won Best Actress in 15 minutes of screen time (and half the talent).

At the time, it was a good vehicle for Foster, too. She knocked it out of the park in Accused, but without a woman in the driver's seat, it probably wouldn't have the same impact. She makes some stupid mistakes, but not because she herself is stupid: Crawford thought Lecter would respond better to a female rookie, and nearly got her killed.

Hitchcock didn't care about awards. All he cared about was his vision, about making movies he wanted to make, same with Orson Welles. That's why i admire those directors. They had principle and integrity not like the pole polishers who worship at the altar of wokeness for fame and money of today.
