I enjoyed it, she brought a good energy and vibe that was much needed even back then. You sure about that? 2014 was the year Ellen hosted, and I remember that one being terrible (although I only watched clips).

It's weird because 2014 was "only" 7 years ago, but that famous/infamous selfie that they took during the ceremony literally brought the Twitter servers down it was so popular.I enjoyed it, she brought a good energy and vibe that was much needed even back then.
The only thing that matters to me in these types of awards shows are the In Memoriam mainly to see how and who they pay tribute. I always enjoyed it for the music and the little suprises on who they give attention too. This year's In Memoriam felt rushed, but my love for Stevie Wonder saved it from being insulting.
The best part of these sections are seeing people get mad that their favorite celeb/artist didnt get a bigger tribute, like Van Halen's little tribute pissing off many a boomers n shit.
Also I had no idea that Yaphett Kotto died, R.I.P.
Daniel Johnston getting a unexpected in memoriam nod is the only good thing the Grammys have ever done, nothing will peak that...
The last several years have gone by so fast and so much crazy shit has happened that it makes my head spin. It's weird because 2014 was "only" 7 years ago, but that famous/infamous selfie that they took during the ceremony literally brought the Twitter servers down it was so popular.
I always forget just how "recent" Twitter is. In fact, you can probably make an argument in the great irony of ironies that the Trump Presidential run is what really made Twitter popular in 2015/2016.
People always try to defend Woke politics by saying "oh, there's always been politics in media" but the difference is Woke politics simply isn't any fun.Not surprised at all. The ratings have been declining for a while now. But a drop this big is actually kind of shocking. I'm sure they will blame the lack of new movies from the pandemic as well as streaming. No mention of the politics or preachy speeches might not come forward. When every I see someone defend the Oscars they try to say that they always had politics. It's true that there have been actors on there who gave a political speech, but it was father small compared to what it is today. They use to be all about having a good time and watch people win. Then win your favorite movie, song, actor, or actress didn't win you would whine on the internet about it. Now it's nominating the most woke movie, a speech on the environment, civil rights, etc, and Trump jokes. The best part is when these people insult anyone from Mid America for having different ideas all while telling them to go see their movies and buy their merchandise so they can get even richer. The award shows used to be fun. Now it's just watching a bunch of smug rich elite assholes become even smuggier, richer, more elite, and more of an asshole than before.
The Left is worse. Leave it to Beaver conservatives did it from a Puritan philosophy. They were killjoys because they believed it made them stray from God. The Left does it entirely out of hypocrisy. The last several years have gone by so fast and so much crazy shit has happened that it makes my head spin.

The fun factor is too easily forgotten, once upon a time the left wanted you to have fun, they promoted stuff like sex and comedy, it was buttoned down conservatives that didn't want you to have any fun, that didn't want sex or comedy.
Now sex and comedy is what the left is against, look at that fucking movie "Promising Young Woman", look at how every joke is offensive to the Woke to where they didn't even really bother with jokes in this Oscars broadcast, which made it all so fucking boring and not fun.
Somehow, someway, the left have started to act exactly like the buttoned down conservatives they used to make fun of, it's so insane.
Tbf the Game Awards is just as bad if not worse, every single commercial was shilling about some sort of mental illness, what "entertainment" there was cringey and awkward, and it was just as much as a circlejerk.
Oh they're both god awful, and I haven't watched either in years, but I saw that and found it hilarious. Let's be real, the only reason the VGA's get any views is the fact new games get announced there.Tbf the Game Awards is just as bad if not worse, every single commercial was shilling about some sort of mental illness, what "entertainment" there was cringey and awkward, and it was just as much as a circlejerk.
The only thing it has going really is that they hold announcements for new games.
One of the questions here- I saw some people excusing the low viewership numbers as being caused by the pandemic- but wouldn't the pandemic drive up viewings if people are home more often?
Only thing I get out of this is that streaming is king for a reason. I know people that watch supercuts of The Game Awards on YT than they did the actual livestream.
Please don’t give them ideas - I’m only surprised we’ve made it this long without a Race Swapped Brokeback MountainThe Oscars could start by picking movies people actually watched and not movies about trans colored gay cowboys eating pudding.

Even most Leave it to Beaver conservatives were not as tight assed as the modern Woke left, the modern Woke left has zero tolerance for anything they don't like, if they don't like it, they want it gone and they want no one else to have it, say it or do it either, they're uncompromising to the extreme. The Left is worse. Leave it to Beaver conservatives did it from a Puritan philosophy. They were killjoys because they believed it made them stray from God. The Left does it entirely out of hypocrisy.
The announcements is certainly the only reason I watch, I wouldn't give a single shit otherwise.Tbf the Game Awards is just as bad if not worse, every single commercial was shilling about some sort of mental illness, what "entertainment" there was cringey and awkward, and it was just as much as a circlejerk.

Remember when Oscar movies were something like Forrest Gump? A movie that most everyone watched? The Oscars could start by picking movies people actually watched and not movies about trans colored gay cowboys eating pudding.
Rhythm and Hues Studio won Best Visual Effects for The Life of Pi, but they were treated like shit by everyone including the Academy. They've never had the creators' best interests in mind, let alone the audiences'.It's been a long time since a Best Picture movie was really all that popular, maybe not since No Country For Old Men? And even that wasn't quite as popular as a Forrest Gump, a Gladiator or a Chicago, to say nothing of what it was like decades ago.
Point is The Oscars were already struggling with relevancy and then they doubled down on something that alienates most people that much more.
I don’t know how they can do this this year, though. Everyone is essentially forced to stay at home in the nights and it’s not like all the films that came out last year were garbage. They will most likely excuse it as the result of the pandemic. If it was a regular year, then it would most likely cause alarm. It says something when people who watch the oscars to mock them like Steven Crowder didn't even bother to watch them this year. Just nobody cared about the oscars this year whether positively or negatively.
Yeah, I remember that, didn't the studio go kaput shortly after or weren't they already basically kaput by the time they won the Oscar?Rhythm and Hues Studio won Best Visual Effects for The Life of Pi, but they were treated like shit by everyone including the Academy. Most visual studios do.Yeah, I remember that, didn't the studio go kaput shortly after or weren't they already basically kaput by the time they won the Oscar?
