Also, a couple of years ago, nobody would have thought Short Round would get an Oscar...but here we are.

I imagine there'll be a few embarrassing speeches about how America is now under facism or somsomething.

I would almost bet agents all over are telling celebrities to ixnay on the oliticspay. Hollywood has suffered enough this past year, and the accountants have told the producers that paying audiences are sick enough of their shit, and by the way, they didn't vote for your candidate because they would like to be able to eat.

They'll try and frame it as "fear of Trump", but really, it's a lot of "fear of losing the audience".

Still got a lot of them to watch, will watch as they come online. But have a few thoughts

Emilia Pérez shouldn't be up for anything. The two acting nominations are fine, however, 2024 was a really strong year for female performances with many better ones getting passed over for this. The hairstyle and make up nomination did make me laugh, the fake nose and beard they give the troon is comical.

Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice, he is good in it, but he was better in A Different Man and should have been up for that instead. Feel more of a fuck Trump nomination.

Animated feature line up is really good this year, only weak link is Inside Out 2.

Nice to see The Substance get into make up and hairstyling, horror is always passed up at the Oscars even for categories like this, where it really makes sense for horror to do well in.

Visual Effects, Alien Romulus has good effect but it has one huge one that never looks good. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes also doesn't look bad, but didn't look better than the last two movies.

I've seen a handful of the international movies. Girl With The Needle is probably the best of the ones I've seen, some extremely uncomfortable pseudo-body horror elements in it but it's basically pro-abortion if that's a big thing for you. Sacred Fig was an okay premise but goes on for way too fucking long like every Iranian movie. Flow has a lot of really nice visual set pieces, doesn't really come together very well as a unified whole though.

Same, A Different Man wasn't anything at all like I was expecting it was going to be but that movie was great. It has basically the exact opposite message of pro-tranny dreck so not a huge surprise they overlooked it.

How on earth is the substance nominated for best picture but not Nosferatu

Nosferatu sucked (no pun intended). It felt like Robert Eggers was channeling the spirit of a first-year college film student and tried to make the movie as shocking and edgy as possible, but it just came off gross and annoying. I ain’t even a prude, but the sexuality crammed in nearly every scene annoyed the hell outta me, and eggers resorting to cheap jumpscares was very disappointing…

I watched Wicked because I have a kid who loves Broadway so we watched it as a family (at home pirated, mind you). I don't believe for a moment that either Ariana or Cynthia actually sang those parts. Ariana says she immersed herself so far into the part that her voice changed. Yeah, whatever. I thought the acting was weak and my disbelief wasn't suspended throughout. It was pretty close to awful.

I have not seen the troon movie and never will. The vaginoplasty song was quite enough for me. I also have not seen any of the other nominated movies except for Substance, which I mildly enjoyed and imagine that it will become a cult classic.

Hollywood is so over.
