Overalls and suspenders

Can't you just wear a t-shirt and basketball shorts with suspenders?

I don't think it would look bad.

You're already experimenting with fashion to a certain degree. Might as well completely make your own look, like a Frenchman does.

Suspenders (as part of a jungle/battle belt kit) and shorts is a vibe. Get the shorts in Rhodesian brushstroke for extra bonus points.

Insulated overalls like Carhartts' are dope and used by all kinds of blue collars guys who work outside or in poorly insulated shops here in New England. They're also nice for blocking out wind because they eliminate the beltline. Wear a hoodie underneath the overalls, a jacket overtop, longjohns (or a union suit), and you're snug as a mahfka.

Love me some bibs for doing real work. Usually order 4" above my regular size. In the winter I can throw on a ton of layers, in the summer they are breezy. They are criminally underrated.

I use clip ons because that's what I could find, but it's definitely not ideal.
They need to be button-ons for formal wear. Trafalgar is a reputable brand but retail can be a bit pricey. Ebay/sales can get them for a better price usually. If you are looking for button-attached you'll probably have better luck searching for "braces" instead. They're mostly interchangeable but that's the more common term for formal wear. If you must get clips, look for things labelled "work suspenders" as they are generally wider and all metal. The downside is making them more rugged means they will eventually add excessive wear to waistlines.

"Hook end" suspenders are a decent compromise. Kunn and Dickies make nice affordable options. You don't need to sew buttons into your trousers and they attach better than any clip. You have to wear a belt but speaking frankly a belt looks better than a typical waistline without it. You should have the trousers tailored if you want to get away with no belt.

"Trucker Style" suspenders are my personal preference. If you'll spend a lot of time seated these are way more comfortable. They hook on either side just in front of your hip belt loops. Nothing to dig into your back.
That is EXACTLY the look I'm going for.
The bigger you are the wider they should be. Thin ones scream hipster and it gets worse on someone with a larger frame.

Being a tubalub most of my life at nearly 360 (I've gone down a considerable amount for my height in the past decade, but I'm climbing back up - im old and tired) I always viewed suspenders as admitting defeat or a sign of getting old. I understand that my opinion is completely biased and most likely wrong on this, but it just is what it is (kind of like how I view t-shirts as strictly undershirts unless you're out doing something athletic).

Overalls as a piece of fashion never appealed to me, but for painting or working in the garage they've been amazingly important. Front pockets, easy to slip on over shorts or pants, never have to worry if I get grease or paint or shit all over them. The only problem is having to dump them off in a coin laundromat so I don't fuck up my washer and dryer, but that's a small prize to pay.

I’m also a big fan of the guido knitted shirts.
Bugatchi is the bee's knees for woptastic shirts. What I said for Trafalgar goes triple for them though. You'll get 75% off retail on Ebay even if it's new/last-season shirts. That said they are comfortable enough I can see why some would be retarded enough to pay full price.
