Overused terms in game descriptions

J-RPG is annoying.

If only because I always thought of all RPGs as mostly the same because it's the same genre. I can't even think of any RPGs that aren't "J" by the definition too. What are some non-J's then, if they exist?

Redundant.
Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Diablo, Fable, Mass Effect
I'm sure I'm falling for bait but yeah

Somewhat mostly off topic, but it's kind of mystifying to me that no one seems to ever describe Japanese ARPGs as ARPGs. They usually break out that old catch-all adventure. The basic combat of shit like Dark Cloud and Diablo are basically identical even if they are very different games in a lot of ways. Then again a lot of people seem to ignore that ARPGs are just real-time roguelikes.

Immersion is definitely starting to be overused. Especially in the age of 4k.
Immersion is another way of saying “stupid time wasting bullshit.” I’m literally reading this thread while cooking in red dead redemption 2 because it’s dumb as hell and requires zero actual attention. I don’t care if it’s “immersive” I have to hunt down, watch Arthur slowly skin an animal for meat, then slowly cook it over a camp fire, to eat it to fill up meters.

All these “immersive crafting survival procedural generation open world realism” games we are bitching about are because our caveman brain literally enjoys the thought of going out and gathering supplies not to die because evolution taught us that. And procedural generation just means that the creators don’t have to design worlds. Just listen to the dwarf fortress guy talk about procedural generation/simulation and you’ll realize “just because it’s random doesn’t make it fun.”

Tbf, that can also be applied to MGS3, MH, BOTW, and many others that encourage you to hunt for food instead of just buying it at stores or finding readily edible stuff

At least in MGS3 you get rations instantly (I remember thinking the needing to eat feature being pretty cool and novel when it came out) and the and can skip the dumb cooking cutscene in BOTW. I don’t need to see Arthur hold his knife over a fire 10x in a row. And BOTW adds some strategy to recipes and being necessary to navigate the environment. Red dead you make small, medium, and large restore items.
Edit: I really like RDR2. They just forgot to make the core mechanics fun.

Just buy food, money comes easy post-chap 3

Edit: Saw your edit and see where you're coming from. Though, my perception of it is likely different, since I'm the kind of guy who likes to MonHunt grind for fun

That's not what immersion is to me. To me immersion is usually things you don't notice- characters not walking into walls, wolves and rats not dropping $50 bills on death. If anything, things like crafting take me out of the game since it's drawing attention to the stupid gameplay things. So to me it's typically used incorrectly by game reviewers trying to sound smart.
