Overwatch

I main support in every game, especially healers, but oh my fucking god I hold contempt for all the supports in this game. They're spectacularly unfun to play for various reasons, mostly because they're all pathetic and easy to kill and have no escapes.
Mercy has her wings, Lucio his speed booster and wall run, and Ana can heal herself fast and sleep the attacker for 5 seconds. Zenyatta has his ultimate for an escape, but that's it.
 
Yeah, that's why I'm asking. You're in this team-based class-based FPS and you have two characters that are both CS:GO AWP snipers. Why?

Sniper felt horribly out of place in TF2 as well. There's just zero fun in being removed from the video game for 5 seconds and forced to walk back to the match because someone clicked at you very well from far away without any sort of clever cerebral work at play.

To be fair, he is weak. So if you can get into his nest, he is trivial to pick off. Not to mention, of course, another sniper.

So this game was fucking crazy and is the first draw I've seen.

Definitely would have been much higher with those three games where people just REFUSED to play the game to win. Was playing with fucking Platinums and then the last two games was with Silvers.

I forgot to mention this but I gave up Overwatch really fast. Shit is just plain boring after awhile, doing the same game modes over and over and over and over and over again is not fun. Then again, I don't know how well Overwatch heroes would play with something like TDM or CTF. All I know is that I'm sick of fucking Payload and KotH.

Yeah, I'm doing OK right now and I'm sort-of adapting to the general shittiness of a lot of the gameplay by picking consistently characters that can deal with it well (Phara/Reind/Dva/Mei/Ana), but my prediction is that like every other Blizzard game, it will be short lived and a ghost town very soon. I just don't see this as the next step in gaymen.

I think I'm the exact same rank as Null, give or take like 10. I haven't played competitive since doing placement matches, I just want to dick around and shoot nerds, I don't give enough of a fuck to take it seriously.

On the Hanzo/Widowmaker front, I'd argue that a well-played Hanzo can be good and useful, but like 90% of the people who play him are mouth-breathing weeb troglodytes who think they're hot shit and are paragons of Dunning-Krueger.

Widowmaker is just a fucking stupid character for the kind of game Overwatch is and I think I've seen her make a positive difference in the outcome of a game like twice out of hundreds and hundreds of matches.

I don't really get that argument myself.

The Sniper is meant to take out key targets like the Medic, Engineer, and other Snipers. Which in turn helps the team gain an advantage over the other. I don't see how that makes him out of place. Sure, he's not like the Medic or Engineer who directly support people, but hey, killing stuff is just as important as healing.

Can't say anything about Widowmaker though, I haven't played Overwatch. But I assume she has the same kind of thing going on.

That's not what I said at all. Isolating and killing squishies is a gameplay element. You have something trying to kill you and you need to know how to react in order to not die. There's counterplay though. When the only counterplay is "don't get hit", that's not counterplay. Not getting hit is something that applies to literally everything in an FPS.

Sombra, Tracer, Genji, and Reaper are all short range and need to get pretty close. You can dance around and hide behind tanks to get help.
Phara uses open space to get kills and you can hide indoors. Even if you get hit, a direct Phara hit is like 125 damage and doesn't OTK. You can react.

The snipers don't have counterplay. The counterplay is don't get hit. The counterplay is relying on the enemy to fuck up.

Most ults have no counterplay too. Hanzo's ult is as bullshit as his left click.

I was always under the assumption that snipers were meant to be high risk/high reward kind of characters. So I never saw that as a problem.

Again, never played Overwatch, so I can't really say much about how well the snipers in that game work as opposed to TF2.

Hanzo is less risk/reward than Widow. Widow is honestly struggling for a role. She's less damaging overall and her ult is pretty lackluster.

Actually the counterplay is to pick a character that counters them (Genji, Tracer, D.Va, Winston).
Overwatch has 23 characters for a reason, you're not supposed to only play one.

I can still make the observation that Widowmaker is useless 99% of the time (at least at the levels at which I play, which are, according to rank, somewhere just south of mediocre) without it meaning I give a shit if she is or isn't.

Well that's just untrue about Hanzo. I get quickshot by him constantly. I also don't play either characters.
