Overwatch

Could someone give me a rundown on why this game is shit? I just bought the game on PC and have been having fun. The only things that seem negative are that some heroes are poorly balanced and the community is full of babies that can't deal with people goofing off in quick play.

it's brink with waifus, and at least brink was fun sometimes.
even battleborn was better, but no waifus, so... (bring in the ratings)

I've reached rank 40 and now understand why people shit on this game. The character customization is pretty ass even though the only incnetive to keep playing the game is for the cosmetics, the lack of changing armor colors and swapping weapon models is rather glaring. Most of the characters are outclassed by a small group of other characters. You will never see a Mcree,Sombra,Bastion,Torb,Baptiste, Mei, etc in ranks higher than silver. Aside from the same rehashed events every year the support for this game is poor,i get that Blizzard is busy with Overwatch 2 but they barely update the game anymore unless they know they can get a cheap cashgrab(events).

i get that Blizzard is busy with Overwatch 2

Reminder - Overwatch 2 is an "expansion" that mainly focuses on single player, story focused content. It is expressly not a sequel. It is not replacing Overwatch 1 in any way (and OW1 and OW2 players will be in the same player pool, OW2 players will just have the choice of updated models). The same 6v6 gameplay in OW1, along with all of it's issues, will be in OW2.

Development resources aren't being pulled from OW1 to work on OW2 - the core engine, every gameplay mechanic, every map, character, weapon, spell, interaction, etc is already done (and part of OW1). OW2 will be leaning on the art department for new assets (which will just be re-skins of existing characters/weapons/etc) but even then not all that hard. The writing team is frantically writing scenarios/backstories/etc that they should have had done 7 years ago and they're trying to package that + new skins as a full, new purchase.

This is misinformation at best. Overwatch 2 is NOT and expansion. An expansion by definition adds content and functions to an already existing game. Overwatch 2 is a stand alone product that does not require the original to function. Someone could buy OW2 without needing to own or have played the original in any capacity. OW2 only interacts with the original game via PvP matches, OW2 has separate multiplayer PvE missions and modes that OW1 players cannot access, nor the modifier "Talents" and items that characters will have in the sequel for said PvE modes.

Why release a literal number sequel if the intention isn't to divert resources and manpower to the sequel? How am I supposed to believe that a sequel that is going to have so much new content and new game modes is not going to divert resources and manpower away from the old game? ( a game that will not receive any new character until the next game drops next year, if they don't delay it even further ) I'm expected to believe NOW all the good stuff is going to come out despite the fact a lot of the veteran and competent talent already left the company to start new projects and studios of their own because they couldn't stand working under the current mandates and conditions imposed by Activision.

Blizzard should have done their job and deliver the content that OW1 costumers bought the game for 4 years ago (Not 7 years, unless you are referencing the fact that OW is the cobbled together result of the failed "Titan" MMO) Yeah, NOW I'm supposed to fall for the same pack of lies they told me when I bought the original game and have the privilege to pay a premium price to access content that should have been added to the original via updates.

I'm supposed to believe the company that delivered the "don't you have phones" line and that managed to utterly fuck up the remaster of one of their most acclaimed games, Warcraft 3 and all amid the pro-CCP pandering. Yeah, that's the company I'm going to put my trust in!

I'm not in charge of Blizzard's marketing but if you want to split hairs it's clearly an expansion.

An expansion simply adds something to an existing game. I understand that Blizzard is billing Overwatch 2 as a "sequel" but it's clearly being built on top of OW1 to a point where you can buy OW2 as an expansion to OW1. If you don't already own OW1 I would charitably describe it as a "battle chest" package rather than a full on sequel.

The game's director explained on the announcement that the game was being built on OW1 - that OW2 for the PvP mode will just have an option for updated models otherwise it's basically OW1. You will be able to play with OW1 players. The clear focus is the single player story/talents system which is clearly something being added to a game that pretty obviously already exists. The characters, the story, the assets, are all coming from OW1.

You don't need OW1 to play OW2, but when you play OW2 PVP you'll still be playing OW1. Suggesting that Overwatch 2 is a sequel would be like suggesting that Street Fighter 5 : Ultra Edition is a sequel to Street Fighter 5, because you don't need an existing SF5 disk to play SF5UE.

The marketing team clearly wants to market it as an expansion though because Blizzard doesn't have an amazing track record of attaching single player expansions to multi-player games. Starcraft 2, for example, sold roughly 6,500,000 copies but the expansions both struggled to hit even 1,000,000 in sales. Blizzard clearly does not want expansion sales, they want sequel sales - even if the team isn't really ready to actually deliver a sequel. The only innovation they've talked about in the PvP mode is "Push" - which is just a payload that can go in either direction and specifically the ranked mode in Splatoon 2.

The reason I'm a stick in the mud about it is because OW1 could probably use a real, actual sequel that represents a real jump forward in gameplay and design (Like WoW to BC, or BC to WOTLK, Diablo 1 to Diablo 2) and not just this wet fart they're trying to pass off as a real thing. OW1 (IMO) was released hastily and borrowed real fucking heavily from Team Fortress 2, but that was almost 5 (or more) years ago and the team should have lots of new and innovative ideas that they just couldn't put into OW1.

I vastly prefer even Blizzard's huge mis-steps (Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3) because those were actually innovative ideas, just executed really badly.

I referenced 7 years because although though the game released 4 years ago - the team should probably have the story written well before the game releases. The story is one of the things that needs to be in place, even from a loose standpoint, very early on. We don't exactly know when "Titan" became "Overwatch" but we do know it probably had a 2-3 year dev cycle of it's own, intentionally or otherwise.

D.VA would benefit greatly with that mix and match cosmetic idea.

Her mech and human skins are 1:1 currently, meaning the whole skin applies to the whole character.

What if you like her cat skin as a human, but want another mech design? You should be able to mix and match them.

they certainly made up in personality, but considering how people go apeshit over overwatch's boring stereotypes most of BB was too complicated for the masses. added bonus: only one is an (underage) lesbian, and the only way to knew that was reading a lore dump on the forum. meanwhile everyone who played soldier 76 for months had to ask themselves some interesting questions...

it's a standalone expansion sold for full price because blizzard wants tards to spend another 40-60 bucks + deluxe bonus on a new game instead of $20 dlc for a game most people left long ago because it's shit. it's also easier to market this way when all the rags will go OMG OVERWATCH 2!!1

Money is the simplest explanation. Slapping a number at the end of something gives off the impression that this is the newer version of something you already brought so you are more inclined to buy the new thing. It's why they were so wishy washing calling it an expansion, sequel, different kind of sequel, etc they don't want to call it a sequel but want you to purchase it as a sequel. Destiny 2 did this too but at the very least they were straight forward with calling their sequel a sequel.

🎇🎆Lunar New Year event is happening!🎆🎇

Shiny things, fireworks... okay I'll kill a little time with this.

I miss being able to get excited about Overwatch. Between the way the developers are handling some things and tumblr not allowing fanart porn it just isn't the same as it once was.

Not to mention that OW's competitors are either doing somewhat better, i.e. TF2's player base numbers, or dead like Battleborn. I have no idea how Paladins is doing though.

Palashits, I mean, Paladins shut down their Esports division recently and there's corporate-y speak of "revitalizing the game".
Last time I tried to play it had to be a third grade special ed class on my team because bots would be somewhat competent. Hi-rez seems to have moved on to only caring about Rogue Company, which I deleted after the tutorial.

I think Mixer was the only thing keeping people aware of Paladins.

I haven't touched Overwatch in almost two years but it did give me one of my favorite multiplayer moments ever.

We were pushing the payload on King's Road and made it to the factory. This was when there weren't any character limits so we we're up against a stack of Bastions and Torbjorns and we were getting shredded. One of my teammates got so assmad that he started yelling over the mic and calling them out for their "bullshit faggot nigger tactics" and I honestly rallied behind that.

45 seconds left, I take my Pharah underneath the platform and I ult the three Bastions off the payload and we barely win.

God, that toxicity could be so much fun sometimes. I hope that madlad is doing well and I always think back to bullshit faggot nigger tactics.

I remember a competitive King's Row match heading into overtime. 1-1 tie game. We were both approaching 90%. One last spawn, I was Reinhardt with an ultimate. I rushed into the objective, SLAMMED the hammer down and rushed in. My team swopped from behind to clean up. Almost the whole enemy team was shattered and shocked by that play.

When OW (or any team game) clicks with synergy, communication and strategy, it can be amazing.

Competitive CTF is my favorite game mode, so I'm gonna enjoy the next three weeks.

But yeah, with no new heroes on the horizon, the game is in a serious holding pattern until OW 2 comes out in 2022(?)
